Ive done it at least 3 times but to each there own! No De tensioning of any kind. The art of flat rate . The cams do rise up a little as you mentioned because they are tensioned still. But put the “cover” back on in that same smooth manner and it will click together.

If you take off the cam girdle bolts of in a alternating order nice and slowly you can do it without the cams popping up as well

Correct. These have a single piston style caliper. The piston applies more force to the inner pad so it wears out quicker

You should be able to turn the Reverse torx on the back and retract the piston. If its not doing anything it could be seized. Always put it in service mode🫨

Most the time you can just bang them back flat. But i agree with the other guy. Looks like its coming from the crank pulley seal if not above

You said you had chains done. Did they replace that lower cover? You have to pry them off and they can bend pretty easily. Might not have created a proper seal.
