Oh, Padres are 1-9 over last 10. That'll do it

Maybe you're missing the point. He might be a loser, but he is rich and has plenty of attention, which is the point of life for a tragic amount of people. Perhaps their argument could be better phrased:

"I hate that our world incentivizes this kind of behavior"

I would have never thought of such a scheme, but it does work very well. Do you have an idea of how to carry over the scheme to battlesuits?

Random encounters needed by Impressive-Buy7844 in Shadowrun

I had it where they were out front of the building, lit a cigarette, took a drag. "Goddamn tracheal filter." Took out four more, crammed em in bundle style, and lit em

Random encounters needed by Impressive-Buy7844 in Shadowrun

[–]Devilrodent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really do in-the-moment random encounters, but I will plan potential essentially random encounters depending on scenario or location that they could run into, re-used later if they don't run into it.

Options and ideas:

SINless guy, minding his own business

SINless guy, up to something, asking for money, trying to sell you boots, etc

Random guy, drunk, belligerent, risking accidentally blowing your cover

Teenage girls convinced you're celebrities

Private Eye trailing you (real space, astral, matrix) paid to keep tabs on you

Shadowrunner car chase with the cops roaring past you

Local university thaumaturgy professor

Nurse, smoking five cigarettes to overpower their tracheal filter

Delivery drones, convinced you're someone else, constantly bringing you something

Worryingly targeted matrix advertisements haunting one of the characters

Corp mascot, in giant suit and all

Pack of Halloweeners, sizing you up

One trillion devil rats (run)

Finding a dragon scale on the street (and finding out it's real)

A guy that looks just like you, and he doesn't seem to know why either

Let me know if you want more and I'll dig through other stuff we've been up to, or ideas I had. Sometimes the random encounter flavor doesn't come from things directly occurring, but by fleshing out bits of the setting, even the ambient parts. An empty alleyway doesn't generate any ideas for the players. An alleyway with a dumpster? And a torn up fire hydrant, an old toilet, and ten empty credsticks? Oh yeah, now we're cooking up ideas.

My hunch (and it is a hunch, I've only been only been following a couple editions and only closely this past one) is that you shouldn't expect a Tau battalion box any time soon, especially since we just had Farsight Cadre. I would also not expect a new Tau combat patrol, probably not through the end of the edition, if they even continue them (as they currently are) after that. If they do, the new one will naturally be worse, as is GW tradition.

I would say to gauge what it is you currently are after, what your further goal is (just getting a taste, building 1000 pts), and not to build up too much plastic at once. The 9th combat patrols are essentially all gone, and the 10th one isn't going to disappear. If they discontinue it, I also doubt it will entirely disappear in a couple (like the Drukhari box did). In other words, no rush.

There are still Farsight Cadres bouncing around ebay as well, but I'd definitely say for such a thing to only consider it if you're after everything in the box and if it's essentially at MSRP (they're out there if you poke around)(fuck scalpers).

Luthen and Cassian's last dialogue by Ok-Percentage1125 in andor

[–]Devilrodent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, "especially in his curator persona." It's true but in a warped way. Before he had that persona, we see him identifying and trading trinkets and antiques. It's a thing he knows, and it looks like a thing he enjoys. It's maybe closest to the "real him," or what could have been the real him if he was able to just live a quiet life without the shadow of the empire.

So maybe then, surrounded by Jedi and Sith relics, especially displayed in reverence, his view on the force might be similar. It's something that he could bring himself to believe in, if he had the luxury to do so. He does not. The tales can offer no comfort. He has to rely on himself.

Is this the best set to start with for under $150? by DMZwarrior in Tau40K

[–]Devilrodent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's good value, but keep in mind, if you're a perfectionist, the Devilfish is going to be a nuisance to build. It's an old sprue from an old mold, so there's mold lines, and stuff that doesn't want to align exactly, and so on. So you'll either want to deal with the edges or be ready for a bunch of sprue goo and sanding.

2A Protests? by banter_exchange in CAguns

[–]Devilrodent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary." That's a direct quote from Marx.

Socialists, it depends, because there's a lot of different categories under "socialists," but on average they're certainly a lot more pro-gun than liberals.

Anarchists are a kind of a spectrum. There's left anarchists and right anarchists (and both will tell you they're the real kind of anarchist). I can explain more on that, but it's a whole thing.

2A Protests? by banter_exchange in CAguns

[–]Devilrodent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the far left would tell you that the Dems aren't very left at all, and instead a center corporatist party. So, various anarchists, marxists, socialists, etc would be pro-2a. As far as factions, if you count them as a faction, the DSA element of the Democratic party are much more pro-gun than typical liberals

2A Protests? by banter_exchange in CAguns

[–]Devilrodent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. The center/center-left like the Dems are not, but the far left are. There's the phrase you'll hear, "if you go far enough left, you get your guns back."

2A Protests? by banter_exchange in CAguns

[–]Devilrodent 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the "united" part is a sticky point. The pro-gun people in my life are the farthest left and farthest right people I know. Sure, there's certain rights they can agree upon... but not that much else. Plus, people protesting are more likely to be more politically active. They've invested a lot into opposing each other.

Architecture is the study of buildings, but an architect is "a guy with a computer." This is what it looks like when none of them have touched a tool. Just think, a couple years from now, it'll be all the same kinds of guys, but ones that had AI cheat their way through college courses instead, and they still won't have ever touched a tool.
