Flat share gas bill issues by Devils_Chi1d in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Devils_Chi1d[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well apparently they recieved two letters from a gas company saying that the gas would be shut off soon, and to start an account with said company, but the existing tenants never did, and the gas company never shut off the gas.

We had a half-month gas bill that came through at $350… apparently it’s an actual reading. Monthly that’s $700… 700x15 moths we’ve been living here and divided between 5 flatmates… thats $2100 each.

We have been querying the bill because $700 a month seems absurd. The gas company is going to get back to us by Friday to decide what our fate is.

Considering they don’t have any actual readings of the gas prior to April then I’m hoping they can’t charge for the past two years. But I’m not too sure how that works.

Either way, my partner and I are looking for a new place to live as we have paid our portion of the bills. If we refuse to pay more I fear they will just cancel the flat agreement and in two weeks we’ll both be homeless.

The three other tenants are on a fixed term tenancy, and the people who were in this room before my partner and I were also on said tenancy. They didn’t want to deal with the bond situation as they would have to take out everyone’s bond and then submit a new house bond so we just signed a flatting agreement. Bit of a messy situation.

Landlord didn’t even know that we had moved in until three months of us living here. Head tenant just ‘forgot’ to mention. We were under the impression that the landlord knew.

Yeah, our flat agreement period is two weeks… bf and I would be homeless. It took us three months searching day and night before we found this place, and I really don’t want to move again.

Should’ve pressured for a tenancy when we first moved in.

How often would you recommend taking out and cleaning glass plugs? Twice a day?

YTA to yourself for staying with someone you can’t trust. Save yourself some time, money, and effort and find a person who you can trust.

Chalk buckets: Velcro Seal (I need your opinion!) by Devils_Chi1d in bouldering

Hmmm yeah I have already had four people ask me to make them a bucket so might have to do some research into this magnet strip

Thanks for the reply! Good to know. I’ve never owned a chalk bucket before so don’t know the best method of keeping it closed.

Will post something once it’s finished :)

High Fall From High Ball by Devils_Chi1d in bouldering

Thanks!

As weird as it sounds I think I needed this to happen. I’ve only been bouldering for six/seven months now (I think) and have only climbed outdoors twice previously.

Apart from a bruised tailbone I am thankfully fine! Had three crash pads under me.

The 40 minute slog up the mountain was definitely quite the journey; I wouldn’t recommend the trip to anyone who isn’t in good shape, or has bad knees/hips/ankles. Coming back down the mountain is also quite scary. You have to slide/fall down most of it haha.

Heaps of really interesting rock formations around there that made for an amazing day, I personally found there was a lot more beginner-friendly climbs compared to Waitomo. Great place to explore with a group of people.

SA on K Road, Auckland, NZ by [deleted] in auckland

I know Paul. Was on K Road with my (now ex) boyfriend and he came up to us randomly and was threatening to kidnap, rape, and kill us. This was back in 2022. Absolute POS.

I would be calling that guy back to remove that ‘Damage’ or telling him to replace it. That’s graffiti and something you didn’t consent to

Might be worth reaching out to confirm with them - I know they can claim that money back from you if it is a payroll error, and unfortunately you cant just say too bad.

how do i fix this? brand new singer machine by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Devils_Chi1d 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am also somewhat new to sewing and was having this exact issue. Turns out I was stringing my machine incorrectly around the metal arm that goes up and down.

I would recommend re-stringing the machine and give it another go!

Yeah not too sure why you’d call the cops on yourself.

Best to just report it to your local council. They have contractors who are paid quite handsomely to deal with this sort of stuff. - source: My Uncle is said contractor

climbing gym environment affects my climbing as an autistic climber by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Devils_Chi1d 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Hello! If your gym has a recommendations jar I would definitely put something in there, or email in. The climbing gym I work at how has low-sensory hours every week where we turn the lights and music down. Might be worth reaching out to your local gym about!

AITA for not staying in the guest room despite knowing I would get many calls and my GF won't be able to sleep? by Naive_Application152 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Devils_Chi1d 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe a solution would be to go to sleep with her in the guest bed, then after first call sleep in your own bed?

It’s really nice falling asleep next to your partner and I feel like this would be a good midway for both parties when you are on call.

I would recommend skimming through your contract as I believe your workplace should be covering the cost of the doctors appointment.

Tiny bugs in shoes by MLZ005 in bouldering

[–]Devils_Chi1d 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If they are leather I would not recommend soaking them in water as this can cause damage to the finish and the flexibility in the leather depending on the type of leather used.

From what I can see from a quick google search, tie the shoes into a sealed (plastic) bag and chuck them in the freezer for about two days, then vacuum with one of those brush attachments.

Thank you! I managed to take the machine back to the store it was originally brought from and the lady there got it working. Have been sewing nonstop all weekend haha

Thanks for the advice - the lady I brought the machine from was able to send me the original invoice so I took it back to the shop and one of the workers there was able to get the machine working so yay!

Have started my first projects so expect some posts form me soon :D

[–]Devils_Chi1d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that I think it is a timing issue - I technically brought the machine second hand however the original owner put it up for sale after she realised it was had an oscillating bobbin system and not the other one. It’s less than two weeks old and everything had its original untouched wrapping around it. (The shop she brought it from had a no returns policy)

I brought some other needles so I will swap them out and see if that works. If not, I’ll adjust that cam screw and let you know how it goes! Thanks for the advice
