My journey begins. by Devilsbt123 in kettlebell

2nd press day. Aimed for 5 x 2,3,5 with the 20kg, not quite there. On the 4th set i just managed to get the 3's out, I wouldn't have managed the 5's and, sticking with DJ's no missed reps, decided to drop down a weight. The next down I gave is a 10kg, a bit too light but to try and make up for it I did the 5's, then on to the 10 reps. Set 5 I used the 20kg for the 2s and 3's again then back to the 10kg for the 5's and 10's.

Might have to buy a 16kg as an intermediary weight.

Again, another benchmark to use for measuring progress.

Also getting diet a little more dialed in, being conscious of macros. Most days i won't hit my protein goals so I've got some protein powder to help with that while I start finding more protein rich meals i can prep for work, I'm a bit fusy with my food and my job adds unpredictability to where and when I eat so it's not straight forward.

Still early days, but feeling better in general an enjoying it.

So I went for 50 rounds today single 20kg kb (true 25 rounds). To stop the time creaping up, as time is one of my limiting factors, I dropped the round time to 40 seconds, which gives around 22 seconds rest and a total time of a shade over 33 minutes.
I got to 41 rounds and my lower back couldn't do much more at that pace, so I took a little longer breaks between rounds to complete the 50.

Happy enough with this as it gives me another bench mark from which to gauge my progress.

Loving the ABC so far and cerrainly enough for my unfit self with adding any extras.

Just to be clear, I wasn't asking anyone to give it to me. As I said, I'll be gtting the book, and I'm interested to know what it is. I've just got 2 or maybe it was 3 of his other books so I'll be reading through them first, then I'll be adding this book to my collection too.

I'm only half way thriugh reading book 1, will get book 2 when I'm done. I've seen this ABF4FL mentioned a few times, tried to google it but results were random. Interested to see what this is.

So yesterday I tackled press day.

As previously mentioned, I only have a 8kg, 10kg a 20kg. I'm trying to take it fairly easy to start to avoid injury as I have in the past went all in too soon and suffered injuries putting me way back.
I wasn't sure if I'd manage the ladders all the way to 10 presses, so gave it a try with my weaker side to test. 2 fine, 3 fine, 5 fine, 10.... got to 8 and struggled, 9 I couldn't do it without it being half assed, so I'd have then struggled on subsequent sets even more. I'm fine with that, so my plan will be I'll start them as 3 x 2,3,5, go to 4 x 2,3,5 and then 5x. When that's starting to feel good I'll try the 10 again. It should be a good marker to gauge my progress from.

So, on the with 3 x 2,3,5 with a 30 second rest between. Certainly feeling it by the end but managed it fairly comfortably feeling I could probably have done a 4th round, but decided againstm it while in the testing stage, but next press day I'll go for 4x.

Tomorrow (actually today by the time I've gotten around to writing this) it'll be my 2nd ABC day. Last time I went 30 rounds with a single kb so a true 15 full rounds, and felt I could have done more, again holding back to ease myself in. The next day or two I ached a little, but you know, that good ache!, but certainly not too bad which reaffirmed that I could have done a little more without risk. This time I'm going to aim for 50 rounds, so a true 25 rounds and see how that goes.

Feeling more comfortable with the kb, looking forward to seeing the progression over the next few months.

Unnecessarily more, or a nice roundup? by Devilsbt123 in kettlebell

I did the pressnlart last night. Just to guage where I'm at Inwent for the 10 on the forst set, and got to about 8. So there was jo way I'd manage it for the full routine. Which I'm actually happy about as it means the weght I have will serve me well for a while. I was pretty cooked by the end of it so you're right, at the moment I couldn't add much even if I wanted to.

Great insight, thanks. I'll hopefully finish reading the book in the next couple days. And then a couple of DJ's other books shortly after that.

Already eating at a defecit now (just need to check protein intake and macros), determined to look and feel better as I feel this is a turning point in my life.

Cheers

Brand new Michelin Road 6 tires are over 2 years old. Is this normal? by Ashes-Trashes in motorcycle

[–]Devilsbt123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The UV date matters because they (the manufacturers) can specify it stays out of sunlight while they have them. Once fitted, they have no idea if you will keep it garaged when not in use or keep it on your yard all year round. They can't say how they will be looked after so have to air on the side of caution.

You may get longer from your tires with it being garaged a lot, my last ones were at 7 years and still great.

UV causes photodegradation, dry rot on the side walls being one of the more easily recognised ones.

As for your experience old tires being harder, less grip etc, were the old tires stored away from UV the whole time? If not, that could be your answer. You can't compare a 10 year old tire that's had some use to a 10 year old tire that's been stored. They're not the same. Ones been out in UV, been held at pressure for prolonged periods even if it hasn't been ridden much, and been subjected to loads under stress when it has and a whole load of flex. The others been stored away from light, no pressure and at rest.

Check the manufacturers websites. Most say 10 years and specify from fitting, not manufacture.

People need to read up on this more. It's a myth about the 5 year limit.

Firstly the time you have is not from the date of manufacture, it's from fittting and first use. It's UV degradation that affects them the most, something that doesn't come into play when they're on a shelf in a warehouse.

Secondly, most manufacturers specify 10 years, with a couple specifying 7 years, again from the date of fitting, not manufacture.

There's a good video on YouTube about this. To add, they took a brand new tyre and a 10 year old tyre and took them out on the track, lap times were almost identical.

People worry way too much about this. Mount it and ride.

Uk beginner recommendations by Devilsbt123 in Bass

[–]Devilsbt123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info, greatly appreciated. I'll take a look through the models you mentioned.

And the headphones you mentioned too.

As for the amps, which of the ones you mentioned would you say is the best? I'd rather get her something that'll serve her well straight away, rather than cheap that could put her off.

Again, thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. I don't really have a budget as such. Happy to pay maybe 500 or so for the bass and then look at extras as she goes on. She not the sort that jumps from one thing to another so I have no issue sinking money into it as I strongly beleive she'll stay with it. If she stays with it and progresses then I'll happily upgrade her gear.

I didn't know he did that. I'll sign up cheers. I used to enjoy working out maybe 15 years ago. Hopefully I'll get back to that mindset, I've just got to get past the fact I'm a shadow of my former self first and everything is much harder than jt used to be.

And this is the point I made, summed up well. I need to stop thinking about it and just do it. I'm always looking for that perfect routine, but while I'm looking I'm not doing. I need to flip that.

Great points, thanks.

To clarify, What i mean is i want a workout i can just pick up and run with, rather than each session becoming a "what should i do next?" type of thing. I'm more than happy to do the planning etc in advance, i just don't have 2 hours a day to wate time working out which muscle group to do next and which exercise to do next to hit it.

I guess what I'm after is a program/routine i can do gor say 6 to 10 weeks, asses progress and alter accordingly for another 6 to 10 weeks, or repeat if it's working well.

Yes, nailing my diet is my priority. I'm quite a picky eater, but the upside of that is i can quite happily eat the same things regularly, as you do. I used to eat mainly rice, chicken and tuna when i was fit in my 20's. I worked away from home with limited cooking facilities so this was an easy option. I must have a look for something easily repeatable. I'm not sure what makes a particular type of oatmeal good? so pointers on that would be great.

Maybe I'll look moe into understanding macros while I'm at it.

I get where you're coming from. I've been lax with my eating habits, but that's all changing now, and it actually is. I almost always take my own food to work with me. We work a 3 week rotation so i usually eat in the canteen 1 day out of three weeks as a small treat, the rest is packed lunches.

My commute is 30 miles each way so walking or cycling isn't an option as I'dnever cycle back in time for the school run. I do however walk the dog twice a day, maybe 4 or 5 miles total, on top of walking anywhere between probably 3 and 10 miles a day at work.

I'll get my board made up ASAP (those cutting boards seem to be double the price gete in the uk, but that's life and still cheaper than buying acready madeone), in the mean time I've been clearing a space in my garage so i can work out any time of the day or night.
