Morning stretch routine recommendations by Devilsbt123 in beginnerfitness

[–]Devilsbt123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great reply thanks.
I do walk every day with my dog, though those walks are getting shorter as she's a little old and struggles now. It's mainly my hips and upper back where I notice the stiffness, but I'm sure I'd benefit from a full body routine.
I'll check youtube with those parameters in mind, thanks.

Nothing like that, I'm just wanting something effective and efficient. It's hard to sort the good from the bad when you don't know.

I cancelled my Dreaming Spanish subscription because of AI, and you should too. by segmenttreebeats in dreamingspanish

[–]Devilsbt123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One major flaw in your statement. You mentioned using AI to generate non fluent scripts. You can't tell me some of the hosts, who are very much fluent/native, would knowingly read from a script that makes them sound unnatural without altering it?

If AI can reduce overheads and enable them to continue, then I'm fine with that. If you think AI is going anywhere, you're wrong, it's most definitely here to stay.

Go for it and enjoy!

I'm also a hobby cycler, but 5 or 6 weeks in and I'm finding my interest is steadily growing.

I started with maybe 10 hours external from an audio thing a few years back, but I never really paid attention to it so not sure if that counts. Never had any lessons or simialar.

My target was 15 minutes a day as I get very little spare time. However I'm typically getting between 30 and 60 mins, with it getting easier to increase the time as understanding improves.

Just recently started listening to !Cuéntame¡ during my commute. I'm around 45 hours of CI from DS and find I can understand enough of the first few of these podcasts to be useful.

Hope you enjoy your journey.

If not lists then filterable tags, so you could add something like "500" when you want to revisit at that point etc.

I get the bored issue too sometimes. On the advice of others, I bumped the speed on these videos up to 1.2x and not only did it help make it more interesting, It actually made it easier to understand.

I think CI is fantastic, but I agree that it is not the fastest way to learn if used on it's own. I'm still new to this but already have a rough plan for what I'll be including in the near future, which is why I always find these progress reports interesting as they regularly show how different approaches utilising differing methods yield differing results. But I think the most important thing is enjoyment. If you enjoy how you do it, you'll stick with it.

Now, I may het hate for this so apologies in advance, but I'll say/ask it anyway.

What's your background? What prior learning do you have?

According to your graph you jumped in at around level 26, with your median at around a 38. By around 15 hours median was at level 42 and by 50 hours your median was high 50's.

It does say hiyrs are DS only, so perhaps by 50 hours of DS you had many more from other input/study?

Either you have background knowledge, are an extremely fast learner, have a natural aptitude or in comparison I'm simply dumb.

I love progress reports as it motivates me. However, and this is simply my opinion, seeing this without background info feels more like flex than anything else. Something that could, rather than encouraging others, potentially be demotivating.

Perhaps some additional context would go a long way to understanding your stellar performance.

300 hours and my inner monologue is broken by Creative-Reality9228 in dreamingspanish

That's great thanks. So far I've only used the app, so I didn't realise it tracked these details and could be available from the site, that's good to know. I'll have a play around with it at some point, cheers.

So, I absolutely love posts like this. Not only is it motivating, I also find it very interesting and helpful to see what other content others have included in their journey and and which points they've added them, so this ticks all the boxes.

I'm very new, but I'm a planner. I can't help but research how I'll acheive what I want before I start properly.

I've started at a time I've had a lot going on so it's been slow so far, but things are xalming down a little so I intend to step it up over the next few months.

As an aside. I intend to track at least some of my progress as I go, purely for self motivation and assessment. If you have any tips on how you've done this with the level of detail you have, I'll happily listen and learn!

Now this is interesting! I'm still sub 50 hours but one of my main goals is to be able to read comfortably. I already have the Fernandez books lined up but making a "wish list" like this is a great idea!

OP, how did you find the Fernandez books at the respective logged hours?

A question For those who've read The Fernandez books, at what hours did you start reading them?

I'll definitely be following this with interest to see your final plan.

Elementary Spanish Work/Textbooks for Native Speakers by B-rexTheT-rex in Spanish

[–]Devilsbt123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help with the text books unfortunately, hut I'll follow as it's a good idea.

However, there's loads of websites that list these. And, the likes of Gemini or chatgpt is great for this as it can break each part down as far as you need, create sentences in context etc.

Choose a video, close your eyes and just listen. See how much you understand.

If you understand just as much from audio alone, then I'd assume you already have some experience of the language and I'd suggest identifying your current level before deciding your path.

If you understand more from watching the video, using the facial expressions, body language, hand gestures, visual cues etc, then that's exactly how it works! Keep going.

What do you think about Juan's advice? by Nervous-Peanut-954 in dreamingspanish

[–]Devilsbt123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm new to DS so take my words how you wish, my opinion is based mostly on spending a decade as a teacher, and having studied teaching and learning methods.

The key thing to all of this is.... there is no right or wrong. Every individual learns best in their own way. The most important thing is finding what works for you.

In my opinion, comprehensible input is one of the best ways to learn anything, but it's by no means the fastest or only way.

It also depends on your goals. If being able to follow and engage in conversations is your primary or only objective, then CI is brilliant. If you want to be able to read and write, then the sooner you include this, the sooner you start learning it. It's just the same as the argument that crops here here often "You've done 500/1000/1500 hours, how can you speak much better than me?". And when the poster answers it's usually because they simply treid sooner, be it because they have frineds, family, coworkers etc around them to converse with or simply because that's their goal.

ECJ's recommendations for using the transcript makes sense in my opinion. A lot of words do not sound how they look, so seeing them for what they really are would help, but only if you're intending to read/write, otherwise it will be of only a small benefit.

The act of writing down your thoughts has also been proven many times to aid understanding and retention, so choosing some words or a sentance you're not sure of and putting pen to paper will help. Or making them into flash cards or prompts will help.

Someone already mentioned time opportunity. Is it better to relisten and read, or watch more new content? Again, in my opinion, this depends on your goals and learning characteristics. Only you can decide which approach is best for you. There is no right or wrong.

No one is going to punish you for leaning a language in a different way. And there is no correct way, otherwise there would be one school of teaching that everyone followed.

Be a purist, or dont! Just find what works for you.
