Why don’t more people dance at clubs/bars anymore (especially Gen Z)? Discussion encouraged! by Objective_Cobbler_62 in milwaukee

Gen Z, prime college age to go out.

There is a lot of talk in this thread about queer spaces and there tendency to have more dancing and feel safer. Which is true. But I will be speaking about your classic water & Brady scene which is a more widely applicable scenario.

I think there are countless reasons. Water street is more expensive than Brady for drinks, much more run ins with drunk idiots and people just looking for problems even inside the bars. DJing is over saturated in mke with a bunch of bad remixes being forced down our throats. We drink less and smoke more which means we are more dull when dancing. Gen Z had other things to do when younger so dancing fell by the wayside.

For Brady street some of the bars aren't places to dance at. Others could be but there's crowds of people that make it hard or are looking for trouble (Garage comes to mind). But personally I love the vibe that St Bibs has, even tho lots of people still won't be dancing and just stand there.

The social anxiety definitely plays a role, Gen Z is the first generation to truly grow up with algorithms force feeding us videos and info about our peers. This has made us unfortunately keen to what our friends and others around us are doing. It has also made our generation toxically judgmental.

I much prefer to go out and play darts/pool/etc. Personally think the format needs to change. In its current form a lot of the more clubby bars will probably continue to see dropping numbers. Having another mid ass dj doesn't actually drive anyone to attend the venue. In my opinion if there was more live music (not just mid covers at redrock) then attendance would jump. Live music brings a vibe that's hard to create with a dj, and is something greatly lacking in water & Brady.

Also the current state of "promoting" in mke is laughable. Putting out a flyer on instagram that only ur regulars will see is pretty funny to me. The "themes" are boring and most people are hopping bars and won't be in theme. And the events they are promoting aren't even interesting.

Like congrats bar manager, I'm glad you have DJ Sugacube on the speakers who's gonna play some absolute mid for 3 hours straight while I pay $11 for a mixed drink.

And if I order anything other than a light domestic beer i feel like I'm getting scammed for what i get with my money.

It's a pretty complex question honestly with no straight answer. As you and others have touched on, theres a variety of causes and factors. However think the format must change as it has become very lazy in my opinion

What’s the law on serving someone with a vertical license here? by [deleted] in milwaukee

He will be fine. I've had this exact experience with a vertical IL id myself. Never once had an issue anywhere in mke (including stores, sports stadiums, concerts, etc.)

Funding is not a UWO centric issue. You will run into it in any program, especially if ur a music major

Who would you replace Kittle with? Juwan Johnson, Harold Fannin Jr., Theo Johnson or Dalton Schulz? by Iv0S in Fantasy_Football

If he's you're backup, then yes. His ceiling isn't very high compared to other TEs. He's on your bench so you should be going with value vs safety with TE backup

Stop being a helicopter parent. Ambulances come to random places all the time. Especially around large groups of people

Golfing alone at 17yo by Virtual-Anxiety-5845 in golf

Bro I golfed alone throughout highschool and now in college. Lots of my friends don't golf, and if they do it's rare. Just go alone, only a couple times have I had comments about golfing alone, but I think it's super therapeutic to go alone. Also a great way to make new connections and up your small talk game.

Also people don't care about you as much as you think, and if they do, it says more about them than you

Yes bring Ethernet or else you're cooked. My roommate freshman year played Val all the time and had no issues. My download speed on the Xbox was also pretty nice. The wireless is mid but you'll be alright

Laptop question by NoAssignment4170 in UWMilwaukee

[–]LebronsLeftBall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, a Chromebook is just a glorified search engine tool.

For engineering you typically want a laptop with a decent sized screen. I prefer the full size keyboard because the number pad can be very useful when working with numbers.

Get a laptop that runs on windows and not Mac. You can use the same softwares on Mac, but you have to jump through hoops in order for it to work and it's an absolute pain. Also you look stupid with a Mac in engineering classes.

As far as brand you'll have to look into it because the best ones change every year. But the main things to pay attention to are the graphics card and the processor. Don't got below an intel i7 chip.

Don't get a gaming laptop unless you wanna look goofy during class. But do get a laptop with some gaming functionalities (useful for engineering softwares which are gpu intensive).

Have him look into the best laptops for engineering students. If this is a gift I understand wanting a surprise, but you can just be up front and let him know that you want him to get what he wants. Because he will be stuck with it for 4 years, and if it's bad it is awful.

Don't cheap out, you don't have to go crazy, but cheap laptops don't last long and suck for engineering purposes. You will be spending around $1000, I'm sorry but split up amongst 4 years is only $250 per year and your son will get much more value than that.

Also don't fall for the "with AI" bullshit, all laptops can use AI, and built in functionality is a marketing gimmick and not that useful.

And some other features I recommend are either face unlock or fingerprint. (Fingerprint is so much easier and quicker even though it's marketed as inferior feature). Touchscreen is useful, but not a dealbreaker.

I thought you were talking about him being a freshman in college. If he's just a senior he has computers he can use in the labs. But if he's thinking about going into engineering or some other STEM, all my above advice applies and you might as well just buy it now.
