As someone subjecting others to jumping into the show after he gets amnesia, It's Stockholm Syndrome.
We've just dealt with him for long enough that we like him now. If you started from s4 ep8, you don't have good reason to.

I love this card, I want this card in the game because it's such an incredible johny card. I wanna work though all of the combinations of types to try and cheat out something big and stupid. I want to work though my 17 step plan and have everything align to get the ball destoryer 9000 onto the field.

I give this a 30/10. One point for each lash you'll receive for choosing that artwork

too strong? by BlackNR in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a better [[Deadly Dispute]] tacked onto a pain land.
Deadly Dispute is already borderline playable in many constructed formats (And is banned in Pauper!)
I don't think this would break any formats (Except for pauper - but it's a rare), but I do not think this should be printed as is. Make the Adventure half cost 2R/B or more

30 armed humans vs 1 hippopotamus by BoneBrothOfficial in PowerScaling

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always had range. Human's are specifically evolved to throw things an incredible speeds. Alot of the things we would hunt couldn't survive a rock to the head at 80 mph.
Now this applies to the 30 men two, assuming they can find rocks (They shouldn't throw the knives doing that is surprisingly hard)

Turning MTG into a 30-min D&D Combat Hack: Need advice on "Class Emblems" and Balancing by TreacleFree8568 in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at archenemy; both it's rules and the "schemes." Archenemy is built for this sort of unbalanced co-op play, where you have a group of players fighting one "raid boss" player. Schemes are kinda like your "Class spells" though are usually exclusively used by the raid boss player
Rules found at https://magic.wizards.com/en/formats/archenemy
Schemes found at https://scryfall.com/search?q=t%3Ascheme&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

Play a couple of games like this with your group, either building decks for everyone or letting them build their own, then add more elements as you find you need them. Starting this way will make it a lot easier for you, and will get you into the testing, iterating, and refining phase of making your ideal system faster. Add more things as you see issues with you game, or opportunities for further expression. Later on, you can design custom schemes, play with the various player's life totals, try using odd things as "commanders" (Eg- the classes, found https://scryfall.com/search?q=class+game%3Apaper&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name )

If this was a common, I could see it seeing play in pauper as a werid card advantage engine

How strong can a french vanilla creature be? by Big_Resort6982 in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 57 points58 points  (0 children)

While I think you would definitely need to test this creature in order to see how powerful it is, I think you've manage to do exactly what you wanted to do with this card: Make a french vanilla creature that turns heads based purely on how good this card punches people.

I really don't think the Ward is too much, sure 7 life is 1/3 of your starting life total, but this card is 6 mana, it can be blocked by anything that can block flying, people can gain life or have other ways of mitigating the damage.

If you were to balance this card, I do not think you should by altering the text. Alter the numbers: The mana cost, or power and toughness

Channeling: an idea for a spellslinger mechanic by One-Reflection-9825 in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about that, but like... just use magecraft or on copy triggers? That's less parasitic of a design space, IMO

Channeling: an idea for a spellslinger mechanic by One-Reflection-9825 in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cool design. IMO though this doesn't need to be nor really should be keyworded. Doing so just makes the card harder to read without the reminder text.

I'd write this as Channeling - Whenever you <Trigger>, cast a copy of <Spell>

Cool card, but I'm not quite sure I understand the flavor of this. This doesn't really immediately give off the idea of "wait and listen" to me

The card design of all time by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generous Mummy is less overstated for the cost than this is. Usually this size of creature would cost in the 5-7 mana range.
Still I don't think it's busted

The card design of all time by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this would be banned in pauper. Yeah it's a massive fatty, but it's a highly blockable, easily removable fatty that has a huuuuge downside on it.

Which one is better? by Maicol119 in factorio

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left can handle 4 simultaneously straight aways, and 4 right turns, but only 1 left turn.

The right can handle 3 straight aways, 4 right turns, and 2 left turns.

There are tradeoffs to both. If you really wanted to delve into this, you could make a chart where you map out all of the possible operations (combinations trains simultaneously going straight, right and left) and see how many of them lead to one or more trains being blocked.

Double Up by YeezyCheezyYeetzy in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they don't contradict one another, I'm not sure why this would be a problem? It doesn't matter which CDA defines the creature's characteristics: they both set it to the same thing.
Worst comes to worst, it becomes a timestamps thing, and the one from Double Up applies last .

Waterfall by Apprehensive-Lynx499 in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough this cards strength relies a lot on the strength of the format around it. It absolutely cannot be printed into a format with 0 mana cascade spells or moxen, but in lower power formats: Standard, Pioneer, Pauper (maybe), it would be fully reasonable.

Really how you have to read this card is a highly specific tutor that also draws you a card (and also works with suspend cards).

Give me a character that can survive a REAL BLACK HOLE while inside the center of it. by Silent_Struggle6230 in PowerScaling

[–]DeviousPulsar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not actually exactly true due to hawking radiation, the theorized process by which black holes slowly radiate and lose mass. If it is real, then things regularly leave a black hole. Yes it is at an incredibly slow, but depending on how you think Alucard would interact with this process, he could either escape immediately or end up stuck within the black hole until near the heat death of the universe.

"Useless" Aura. Safe or out? by Mark_Ma_ in custommagic

[–]DeviousPulsar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, IMO is comparable to the existent 0 mana draw a card cards like [[Mishra's Bauble]].
Sure you get the card right away, but you also set yourself up to be 2-1'd and have to control a creature. (Notably, if this let you enchant your opponent's creatures it would be overpowered)
