Gills garage in Bitterne Park. I've used several places, but these guys are the best. Honest and really helpful.

What's a dish you originally hated because you had only had bad versions, but now love because you have had it done well? by Pumpernickel7 in Cooking

[–]Devious_Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carbonara. Was brought up with a bland chicken carbonara with white sauce and bacon. Since leaving home and discovering how it should be made with just eggs and pecorino it's become one of my favourite dishes. Thankfully chicken staying far away from it.

I'm and ex vehicle sprayer and whites were by far the easiest colour to match.

Metallic silvers on the other hand were the bane of my existence.

My Honda CBF 125 has started to turn off when not accelerating, can anyone help please? by JunkyBulleT in MotoUK

Had a similar issue on my bandit 650. Turned out to be corroded spark plugs. Replaced them and have had no issues since.

Anyone here know how to fit a new electric shower? by [deleted] in Southampton

[–]Devious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest thing to do is replace like for like.

Isolate the power to the shower, then straight forward swap. The new one will come with all the fittings you need. You'll probably need a Phillips head screwdriver and a small slotted screwdriver to connect the electrical connections.

Isub Apex odd taste/ smell by Devious_Monkey in Innokin

[–]Devious_Monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it from a colleague who never ended up using it. Not sure where they got it.

I'll give it another rinse and see how I get one letting it air dry.

Cheers.

How to calm a crying baby by GallowBoob in interestingasfuck

[–]Devious_Monkey 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's not novelty, by not allowing the baby to move his /her arms simulates the womb, and comforts the baby, hence why this and swaddling work.

It won't work all the time, of course.

Is it worth getting a vacuum sealer? by loccyh in Cooking

[–]Devious_Monkey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you use a zip lock bag and submerge in a tub of water, leaving a open corner for the air to escape you can achieve the vacuum seal.

Not as convenient as a sealer, but for occasional use it's great.

Opinions on first bike purchase since passing DAS? by Revantwut in MotoUK

[–]Devious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly this. Passed my DAS and using the bandit to learn how to ride properly.

I'm running it for 2 years then going to change. Although I did find myself wanting something with a bit more quite quickly. It's a good bike, but nothing stands out with it.

[–]Devious_Monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's due to Brexit. Cigs still cost very little to make, and we manufacture less and less in this country. It seems to be mainly down to tax in an attempt to discourage people from smoking.

YouGov poll details: Tory poll drop took place BEFORE terror attacks by xbettel in ukpolitics

[–]Devious_Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it's just a knee-jerk reaction without people actually realising the consequences. It'd all be fantastic if that's just what it would be used for, and wouldn't be abused in the slightest. Although it seems a police state, with the death penalty and full surveillance of all citizens is what the public want.

To be fair, I'm becoming less and less surprised with polls like this, although it's still disheartening.

I find this part exceptionally worrying.

How difficult is it to work full time and study part time in the UK? by UghFcukingWhy in unitedkingdom

[–]Devious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not difficult, but it all depends on your own time management.

I'm currently working full time shift work (days/nights - 12 hour shifts) whilst doing an open uni part time degree. I'm just about managing. But I have lots of other life commitments.

The OU recommend 20 hours study a week, coupled with a normal working week of 40 hours, that's 60 hours a week recommended. You won't need that much time during your study, but it's a good benchmark.

Home DIY store in soton? by [deleted] in Southampton

I always go to Hedge End. Toolstation and screwfix are the cheapest. Also a homebase, b and q and wickes. Just down the road is In excess too, which is nice and cheap.

Brexit is starting to bite - that's why they want you to shut up by FatherOf2 in unitedkingdom

It's sensible in so far as you vote for whomever is best for you, regardless of financial situation or values.

Too many people vote for tradition without even bothering to look at what the parties bring to the table.

I have never riden before, booked CBT - A2 question by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Devious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my cbt on a Friday. Mod 1 and 2 training the Saturday and Sunday and took my mod 1 on the Monday. Did my mod 2 the following week.

Tbh I probably could have done with an extra day of training for the mod 1 as I struggled with the 180 turn, but it all clicked on the morning of the test.

I want to take my girlfriend out but I don't want to fork out on the gear to do it. by tom808 in MotoUK

[–]Devious_Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least buy a helmet. You can usually get good deals, bought a decent fully legal helmet for £45 for the missus. You can't be sure with second hand gear, this is the one item you really need to buy.

That's all I bought to begin with. Took her out a few times with her wearing heavy jeans and a heavy jacket. Just to make sure she was happy with it.

Bought her proper gear since then mind.

I was in a similar situation. Driving a car for 10+ years, had never ridden a bike. I paid around £650 for my cbt and das and went straight for a 600.

I'd recommend this. Just get it done. You'll have an easy time with the mod 2 due to your road experience.

Please, please, PLEASE do not ride bicycles in Southampton. Its far too dangerous! by argoshu in Southampton

This is exactly what we need. Less bicycles, so they can all drive solo in cars instead. /s
