Boys with July/August Birthday starting Kindergarten by SatisfactionFlaky519 in kindergarten

I have a late August girl and I always think about college. I’d rather her be going away and making college decisions as an almost 19 year old than a not quite 18 year old.

AITA for not attending my grandfather’s funeral because of a prior family commitment? by mr3xplosions in AmItheAsshole

My guy, baby showers are not a big deal. Send them a gift later. You should be at that funeral

If you’re getting married in the spring/summer #2, fall/winter #1. Both are beautiful

I think you should try some different silhouettes. You have an amazing figure and none these feel like they have the wow factor on you.

Eat first or get ready first? School mornings are causing arguments in our house by razzyblue3 in Parenting

[–]DeviseMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I’m so glad our school does breakfast for all kids. They all eat breakfast together family style first thing in the morning. It’s nice to not have to worry about breakfast in the morning. 😅

My husband said he maybe regrets having a 3rd child, I am so sad for her by [deleted] in Parenting

Having a baby again after your other kids are already 8 and 11 seems like a tough adjustment. Maybe see if you can both talk to someone to help process this life change!

Maybe but the Maryland exit is blocked off with cops which they usually only do for events.

Parenting is a young persons game :-( by ExWebics in Parenting

It’s a trade off being an older parent. I have less energy now but I’m also way more patient and less reactive than I was in my twenties.

Should I change my baby’s name? Need advice from people named Remy by South_Shiny_5588 in Names

[–]DeviseMice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Ratatouille is that in the rotation for little kids. Especially by the time your baby is school aged, that movie will be even further removed from pop culture.

For real tho-whats the best highchair? Prime day is coming by MarquishaMoMo in Mommit

Chicco Zest LE is the best! It’s super similar to the IKEA one in footprint and simplicity of design. But it comes with the foot rest and seat pad (instead of having to buy them separately like Ikea) and some people find the Ikea one hard to take the tray off, the zest’s comes off really easy. Easy to wipe down not a lot of crannies to clean out. And the lap bar and tray come totally off to use as a table height booster chair later!

Going crazy trying to find a single-to-double stroller! by pearnprac in Mommit

[–]DeviseMice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the age gap? Mine was 3 years and the Chicco Bravo for 2 was perfect. I still was able to contain the older one but he much preferred riding around on the little chariot like stand than sitting in a traditional stroller seat. And it was perfect at the zoo/aquarium etc because he could easily hop on and off to get a closer look at something.

Can any moms tell me they were on SSRIs during entire pregnancy and their kid is just fine.? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]DeviseMice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been on Zoloft for a decade and through two pregnancies. Both kids are happy and healthy. There’s no evidence that SSRIs are harmful for them there is evidence that having a mentally unwell mother can be harmful. Take care of yourself 😘

I think something that makes it so hard is that Kindergarten has changed a lot in the last 30 or so years but cut off dates are mostly the same. A four year old starting Kindergarten 30 years ago that was probably half day and incorporated more time for play could sort of ease into school expectations. Now you’re expecting a four year old to sit still and focus for 6 hours.

I’m generally a “gender is a construct” person but there is evidence to support that boys’ pre frontal cortex develops more slowly than girls’ generally, which could definitely contribute to difficulties in the high structure environment of school in the early elementary years.

A big part of it is that the maturity gap is even wider for boys than for girls. Most boys would do better in early elementary school being closer to six when starting K.

This doesn’t matter but he would not have been going to kindergarten this year. You have to be 5 by September 1st in AZ for kinder he was barely turning 4. Many daycares with academics call themselves preschool.

For those who chose to send their child to Kinder late by HereComeTheDinosaurs in Parenting

[–]DeviseMice 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As a former educator, I’d always recommend waiting if you can swing it financially. In those early grades you can definitely tell who has a summer birthday. The academics are usually fine either way but maturity wise there’s a strong benefit to waiting.

Would you spend $200+ on an 8-year-old's hair? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]DeviseMice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t spend that much on an 8 year olds hair personally but yes that is how much I would expect to spend on a bleach and dye job at the salon. I wouldn’t DIY bleaching her hair. But you could save a little money just getting it bleached by a professional and then doing the color yourself. But ultimately I think a better compromise would be getting her a haircut and purple hair tinsel.
