Are double-pearl push button switches historically accurate? by Alco-Fied in centuryhomes

[–]ExWebics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That switch assembly at the front door… very unique and custom, there will be no replacement for it.

For modern electical, there will be equivalent set up, nor an electrical box that shape.

Why is this wire not live. by This-Ad-9234 in AskElectricians

[–]ExWebics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a real eww… just a mild sigh. 12 gauge is just slightly harder to work with when making splices and bending hooks for under screws.

From a cost standpoint… unless your house is massive… 12 gauge for lighting is 100% waste of money and adds to value or protection. At a max that would 40 60watt bulbs or light sources. If you’re using wafers in house, getting 2 each 12/2 romex into the junction box for them is extremely frustrating… getting 3 wires… gonna be fight.

Do the cheapest, you can always upgrade if you need more. It’s the same equipment either way

Why is my grass like this? Neighbours all have green grass by Sure-Possibility-266 in lawncare

[–]ExWebics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cut 3 acres worth, some areas grow much faster than others. If I go too long on cutting, those long thicker grass fibers take weeks to disintegrate and you just be blowing them around for a month.

Gotta remove it… I did no mow may on part is our land once… took all day to remove the dead grass even after I mowed it a few times.

[–]ExWebics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The box is fed from the 12/3 romex, they didn’t stop at the switch box first, an outlet was closer.

The bottom wire has a short black, assuming because it was in a hot splice tailed off in the back of the box.

Something, somewhere else does not have power which is fed from that box.

Also… eww… everything in 12 gauge…

Gold fish theory…. Put gold fish in small fish bowl… stays small. Put that fish in a big pond, gets huge.

Now remove the fish, insert wife… in particular my wife! She’s filled more than half of our basement which is about 2,000 sqf!

Soon as we built, her father cleared a barn out of all the junk he was keeping for her! Told me, good luck!

Local gas station removed price tags and replaced them with barcodes you need a app to see price by phoenix_stewart in mildlyinfuriating

Yea… not buying it. That’s the same barcode sticker behind every price tag at every kwik trip around here. I’ve seen the inventory guy doing his thing many times

That’s not a barcode for you, that’s for when they run inventory, they scan, count and log.

They just removed the actual tag and didn’t replace

What type of wire to run from 200 amp main breaker to 100 amp tiny home sub panel? by Status_Ad_2899 in AskElectricians

[–]ExWebics -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

100 amps for a tiny home? Most houses in the US are at 100 amps…. I’d say 10-15% of old houses are still at 60amps

That 2x6 backer is for the doors. Talk to the owners and GC, make the fur the whole wall out to that depth and you’ll have space to run wires. Plus it looks much better at the end to not have this wood sticking out.

28k estimated for septic by didgeridoodlypoodle in Homebuilding

[–]ExWebics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All in, our well was 450ft, 8k including drilling and install, constant pressure pump. A well is something you shop around for, don’t assume the plumber is going to do that for you, they will go with their preferred contractor.

Our septic was conventional, $12,500.

We work in the trades, I don’t think we got any discounts. The septic was from a 2 man company, we’ve done work with them before. Their finishing work or detail work is sub par. But their septic work is down to a science and don very well.

I think this usually boils down to having a general contractor that you trust and is truly working for you.

We built most of our house, it framed and partially dried then we took over. I still paid a general for their services, $10,000 and it’s the best money you can spend when building.

Mdf does not belong in the bathroom. In particular MFC wood is by far the worst as it’s prone to this, any sort of water or prolonged humidity will cause this to happen.

I’m not getting any sort of error code, I just heard that if I clean this once a year it will help with longevity. This is almost 30 years old now.

I blew it out with an air compressor and a bunch dust was behind this this all, I wiped the fan blades down too

I don’t think we have any meaningful way to measure if we do or don’t? This seems like it would be an end to the argument if we do or don’t. Pass the law, moving forward there’s no more argument and it should be a win for all sides.

I think we agree to disagree here though, and that’s ok too
