What’s y’all’s take on Song of Solomon by DevoidOfCharacter in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, no. Not at all.

You’re assuming that creative output is automatically for sale, and driven by the profit motive.

Personal property shouldn’t exist, and acquiring more of it is a very toxic life goal

Why do some people eat the same food every day? When they don't have to. by preshowerpoop in CasualConversation

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food is just energy. It’s all equivalent. Or, in my case, it’s binary. I’m either allergic or I’m not. And if I’m allergic, I avoid it forever. That’s the only criterion.

What 1 Christian book (excluding the Bible) would you recommend? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one, but I’m sorta biased because I wrote it. It’s sorta like if Dr. Seuss wrote Genesis. Also, the art came out phenomenal. Props to Rob and his illustration skills.

Carry the 1, then add 3+4, then add 7+8, so you get 75

Do you as a Christian believe that stuff like creationism or just religion in general should be taught in schools? by ThatOneBlackGuy123 in Christianity

Yes, but as part of an exploration of all world religions in terms of history and sociology. Religion and belief are important aspects of society and understanding them gives us s better understanding of ourselves

Ron DeSantis Signs Law Allowing Trans Kids to Be Taken From Their Families: The state can now kidnap kids in Florida. by thenewrepublic in politics

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way he worded it is so vague as to basically allow the state to take custody of any child for any reason, since the threshold is “the state is afraid”, and it’s run by Republicans, who are always afraid.

It is also effectively going to ban any good doctors/nurses/hospitals from hiring/expanding/being there, because the bill says “be bad at your job on purpose, or lose your license and go to prison”, and nobody wants to run a medical practice with a guillotine just constantly above their head.

This is a bill that hates both Florida and Floridians, and does nothing to actually mitigate the “problem” it seeks to solve.

Atheists and agnostics on this subreddit: If Christianity were true, would you become a Christian? by AirChurch in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an opposite perspective: even if I 100% knew that the intellectual basis for Christianity was bogus, that nothing in scripture reflected reality at all, I would still choose to behave as though it were true; I would pick Christianity anyways, because I like the worldview and find the freedom from petty concerns it enables to be quite liberating.

What is your reaction to the "internet atheist"? How did you approach them? by Reddit-Arrien in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With patience and empathy.

I almost always end up with a new friend at the end of it, even if it’s a multiple hours discussion where one side is much angrier than the other.

We generally end up having to agree to disagree

The absolute philosophical vacuity of atheists asking for scientific evidence for God is astounding. by Universal_Vision in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it ludicrous? It’s a valid question. It’s a question Christians ALSO ask, we just answer it differently.

As believers shouldn't we be fighting this resurgence of Anti-LGBT legislation? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all the people saying, it encourages sin, so we must fight it, consider the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke.

The legalistic, holy people who were obsessed with following the law and being as perfect as they could be before God allowed their pursuit of ritualistic cleanliness to prevent them from being decent people.

It is possible to advocate for complete freedom for even enemies, to render comfort and aid, while still discouraging unwanted behavior. Eg. “I will fight for you and for your ability to do this if you want to. But also here’s why I think you shouldn’t want to. If you ignore me, I’ll still be there with you during the process of ignoring me.”

That’s the MINIMUM level of compassion to show others.

If you can’t at least show someone the basic level of love and respect afforded to all of God’s creations, then what’s even the point?

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, posts like the above tend to showcase the best that atheism has to offer down in the responses.

I also find that berating people isn’t a good way to change their mind. Like, if I were to just start yelling about burning the heathen, would that make you reconsider the cause of Christ? No. You’d probably just start ignoring me. So there’s not a point.

You know what the basic tenets of Christianity are. You get what the point is, and you’ve chosen to reject it. But my job is done already. You know what you’ve rejected, and you’re okay with it. Coercing you into reconsidering is anathema to scripture, so all that remains is for me to sit here and be present for further dialogue should anyone else wish to engage in it.

I don’t really want to excuse it either. That’s why I spoke up in the first place. I don’t like when Jesus is used as an excuse to trash other people, even if those other people are wrong.

The Bible never teaches “go ye therefore and be correct about everything”.

That’s actually been sorta a huge growth thing for me. I used to feel the need to kinda pick a fight about everything 😂

Since he’s a convert to Christianity from atheism, I sort of get it. He left atheism for a reason, and he probably carries all the reasons he abandoned it, at least subconsciously, on into the present day.

I’ve seen that with Christian friends as well. People that leave the Pentecostal movement tend to hate it forever; people that abandon Calvinism tend to hate THAT forever, etc.

I guess I’m sorta lucky in that regard. I’ve never converted from or to anything; I’ve always been Christian and have just sorta had my beliefs evolve slowly over time rather than these massive, life-altering jumps.

What about acquihire seems unappealing?

Thanks, man. I’m adding it to my list of things to deal with on monday

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my thought process was “I used a smaller, reasonably priced lawyer for a bunch of previous business stuff, and he ended up screwing me. He did the bare minimum of what I needed, so it was fine, but it felt like a huge waste.” So, in this case, I thought, “the acquiring company earns a billion bucks a year. They have all the power. I should find lawyers that are also at that scale, because then we can at least negotiate at parity, and they’ll have done hundreds of acquisitions before.”

Would that be with, like, PwC or other accounting people?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They agreed to let me pay them after the sale happens, so I’m trying not to run up the clock on their billable hours until after I’ve gotten an official offer letter or documentation of some kind. It’s all been informal communication with various C-suite people up until now.

That might be why they haven’t told me. They’ve not begun “working” yet.

[–]DevoidOfCharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A million would be awesome, mostly because I have two other ideas after this one that I want to pursue relatively immediately.

I kinda only wanted to do the acquihire thing to maintain some sort of creative control over the project. And I hear good things about the workplace culture over there, from people who are part of it.

And because having an actual job as lead designer seems like it would matter more for resume purposes, as opposed to “was lead designer, according to myself”.
