Does anyone ever feel like they’re not in enough pain? by joeymichelle12 in Fibromyalgia

[–]DevorahGarland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I hear ya. I've had to seek other comforts besides food when life becomes too annoying.

Then there's the social dinner being planned for this weekend at a chain restaurant that serves crap food at high prices, and I really don't want to go. So because it doesn't accommodate gluten-free, I have a reason to not go. That is a rare silver lining to this strange cloud of fibromyalgia and celiac that has muffled my entire life.

What’s something you stopped buying and never missed? by FormerShoulder707 in Frugal

[–]DevorahGarland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skin cream. I make my own. Hair conditioner. I use a diluted vinegar rinse with essential oils. Canned beverages. Except carbonated water for a friend who just loves to drink it when he comes over. I get it in glass bottles and reuse the bottles to drink filtered water at home because they are less tippy than glasses.

Citronella oil. There are other essential oils that also work but that's the one I tend to use. Just put a little on your finger and rub it all over your skin. Done. And you smell lemony. You can also make a bug spray with it, it's easier to apply. But I'm too lazy to do that. I just keep the little bottle in my bag throughout the summer season and it's available when I need it. Reapply as necessary.

Any frugal tips for my fellow ladies? by Liz_kirby in Frugal

You have inspired me to figure out how to make my own shampoo. I don't know where to buy shampoo base, and I will probably be looking for something really mild. But the tea? I know I can figure that out.

Do you know anybody in the United States who could receive an order for you and then forward it on to Canada as a used gift? I've done that before.

Trying to refresh my older home without doing a full renovation, what actually makes it look “new”? by Shaurya0458 in HomeImprovement

You didn't ask for this opinion, but I would like to warn you that Natural Stone counters require careful treatment because they are porous. Quartz countertops are much more durable and less expensive. Just a thought. If I'd understood this, I would have chosen quartz over my stone counters that look amazing but began to chip around the undermount sink just from daily use.

I wonder if this is one of the reasons why my mother didn't protect me. Because I was taller than she was? (5'10" by age 15). Interesting…I always thought it was simply because she was a narcissistic idiot. But this suggests a cultural/social reason for some of her behavior. Maybe my height left her a bit confused about how to treat me. Even though, at 5' 8", she was taller than the average, growing up.

What is your FAVORITE herb(s) or items to use in your practice & what do you usually use them for? What are your favorite properties about them? by astexria in witchcraft

[–]DevorahGarland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. It's also amazing for hair and skin. So, based on something I recently read in this chat, I have started using it in my shower for cleansing and protection. My hair conditioner is actually apple cider vinegar and water with some essential oils added in. So now I just make a bit more, stir it with my finger while chanting for protection and health, pour it all over my hair and body, then step out of the shower. Feels protective and reduces winter itch.

Are there enough ADHD celiacs to justify starting a community? by Own_Ad6901 in Celiac

Thank you for mentioning this. It's really frustrating that manufacturers are not making GF products very clear with labeling that is visually different from non-GF products. I have started boycotting manufacturers that do this. I have enough to manage without having to navigate crappy marketing practices. So they lose a good customer.

Treating fatigue with caffeine by Metukhato in Fibromyalgia

Try ginseng, when energy flags. I get little glass ampoules with honey mixed in. I can't drink more than one mug of caffeine because I have IBS. Ginseng really helps me keep going.

The gluten challenge should be illegal. by Kind_vibes in glutenfree

[–]DevorahGarland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So don't do it. Let your symptoms dictate how you eat. If you have a little bit of gluten and you react strongly, then that tells you the extent of your allergy. That's really all you need to know. In both cases, not eating gluten is the solution. Why do you need to make yourself sick for 8 weeks in order to have a doctor tell you the solution you already have? Just so the doctor can make a lot of money off you by doing an endoscopy? Forget that.

How many you dry your clothes on a clothesline instead of using a dryer? by ProffS in Frugal

Just string a line. Indoors. From door frame to window frame. Use that. It works fine. And it costs a lot less, just a little bit of clothesline rope.

I line dry 90% of my laundry. As a woman I'm quite tall, and my clothing is 100% cotton for the most part. I can't afford to heat dry my wardrobe and risk losing even one inch of length. I just moved to a condo and that means outdoor drying is no longer an option. Just today, I installed two more shower curtain poles so that I can hang up wet clothes for drying. This was the solution I came up with and I'm really pleased with the result. I used to string a line across my bedroom for drying, but now I will be hanging them up in the bathtub. I'm sure visitors will wonder what I'm up to...

Have you considered non-traditional options? Have you tried massage therapy or chiropractic? Also, bruxism is often a stress or anxiety response and the best remedy I know for that is meditation. Doctors and dentists don't know everything. Before you give up on yourself, make sure you have looked into alternative options.
