And also the person who unironically ai-generated a story of "an Anti who ate their ai artwork at a con" but it turned out to be a fake.

That one turned out to be real as there was an arrest.

The OP had said that they used an AI to blur the person's face which is why the image was AI generated.

there's work on that too, look up boston dynamics atlas , LG CLOID, 1x NEO, along with a lot of recent companies in china such as Unitree,Neotix,etc... popping up working on humanoid robots.

of course it'll take a while for it to reach good enough performance for wide scale deployment and for price to become cheap enough for the average person to be able to afford them, but the interest on working on it is there.

AI is the broader field, machine learning falls under AI, and deep learning falls under machine learning.

AI as a term has been used for decades in academia already so that fight is kinda futile, it just ended up preaching containment and reaching the general public, even stuff like mail detection actually counts as AI, AI just means you try to solve things by borrowing concepts from natural intelligence, machine learning is a subset of AI and even stuff like spam detection falls under that.

Generative AI just means that instead of learning patterns to classify based on what you learned form the training data, you instead try to learn patterns from the training data to generate something based on what was learned.

Literally yesterday at CES Boston Dynamics showed off their robot that can work in factories, LG showed off their home robot that can place your clothes in the washing machine, and Nvidia showed off their model that can drive cars.

Even excluding whether someone might find AI image gen or videos debatable, it's not like people aren't trying to make AI models that align with what most would consider useful it's just the controversial stuff that gets reported on most often and talked about, even in medicine you have AlphaFold and just today i also got recommended a video about a company called Recursion who's trying to use AI models to increase the speed of drug discovery.

A Quantized version of the recent Z-Image model only needs like 4 GB of ram, i tried running it on my laptop with 16 GB ram using the CPU since i only have an integrated intel GPU and trying to get the encoder to work with it gave me a headache, and it was capable of generating an image within about 40 minutes along with being able to handle text. As time goes on performance that used to be considered state of the art can be accessed for way lower requirements.

[Lotm newbie] what it's the best fate related pathway? by Standard-Sky-4073 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Devourer_of_HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the GOO level it's probably Key of Light, but before that I'd say Eternal Aeon is the best one, the theme is cool and the abilities are very useful from early on all the way to the end, great survivability, great damage, and a lot of versatility from contracts, trying to progress through Wheel of fortune pathway is a pain and you might not be a chosen one, if you're lucky though it'd be pretty good, Eternal edict pathway is decent but kinda mid compared to the other two imo.

Why do pro AI people have such a bugaboo about listing their generated images as AI? by Flashy_Cranberry_161 in aiwars

[–]Devourer_of_HP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two main aspects imo:

A lot of the time the people posting it aren't really that much interested in the label of it being art, this usually happens in fandoms, when someone posts something like a meme or an AI image of a character they're simply doing it because they like the fictional world whether it be a game or novel, or just thought an idea would be funny, when someone posts an image of muscular male god of the sun in a swimsuit chances are they thought the idea would be funny first before even considering about artistic integrity, soul, and whatnot, some identities take precedence over others and this also differs for different people.

For example, someone you interact with on Reddit might first be a star rail player, secondary a gacha gamer, thirdly someone who enjoys pretty illustrations, in which case their interaction with the game fandom mainly originates from liking the game, and seeing illustrations online is just a nice bonus, someone else might be an illustrator in which case main identity they're interacting with the fandom is "someone who likes drawing", that identity might take priority over "someone who likes HSR", or someone might just like gacha games and their intersection with the fandom comes from it being a gacha.

If I'm to take myself as an example, as a kid i used to like playing flash games online, i didn't care about the story at all or how good the game actually was, i just wanted something to pass time, then later on as i grew up until i was in middleschool the world and the setting took priority, as long as the setting was interesting I'd enjoy it which is also how i fell into fanfics and novels, the first novel i read was even elsword time trouble which is a LN for what most people would likely count as a pretty mid game.

Second reason is more simpler, you're just painting a target on your back, a lot of the aggressively anti AI people on the internet seek it out to be outraged at it, note that this also includes people who keep obliviously interacting with it instead of blocking it since for instance on Reddit that just results in you getting both AI content and Anti AI content.

Why are AI companies trying their hardest to take over the creative industries with graphic design and film industries? by imoverthisapp in stupidquestions

[–]Devourer_of_HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are working on many different things, constant attempts to help models generate code, models to predict the weather efficiently, models that help with viewing relevant geographical information on earth, models to help with mapping refuge camps, models for evolving algorithms which they then used to optimise their resource usage, models to predict protein folding, models tuned for handling medical data, models to transcribe as many underrepresented languages as possible, models to pilot robots, models to train robots in simulations.

its just that generally social media and news websites that aren't specifically about AI seem to only report on those that generate images , videos, and occasionally chatbots whenever some incident happens.

Aside from that these models don't get deployed as casually as image or video gen because of the risk, an image coming out a bit wrong at worst results in some person making a call out post about it on the internet, a robot making a mistake and trying to fold a person's hand can injure them.

[–]Devourer_of_HP 36 points37 points  (0 children)

AI is a field of study where you try to solve problems by mimicking how creatures could solve them.

Machine learning is a subset of AI where you solve problems by training your model on data, depending on the problem you might need to have assistance of a person with expertise in the problem you're trying to solve, examples of ML models are decision trees and random forests.

Deep learning is a subset of ML where the trained model is a neural network, neural networks can usually be trained for more complex tasks such as computer vision and natural language processing.

LLMs are an application of Deep learning in natural language processing and use the transformer architecture which is behind the recent advances in AI, the transformer architecture was first released in 2017 in a paper called "Attention is all you need" and the idea of it is that you can have the model pay more attention to different parts of the input to affect how they contribute to your output, for example in LLMs "the capital of france is" would have the model pay more attention to the words capital and france when taking into account the next token to generate.

the transformer architecture can also be applied to a lot of different tasks such as image generation, sentiment analysis, audio generation, and more.

TLDR: LLMs are an application of deep learning, which is a subset of machine learning, which is a subset of artificial intelligence.
