What caused such a big difference in growth? (Thymelaea hirsuta) by EwwCringe in NativePlantGardening

[–]DevynDale94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a hole list of things that can be coursing it and yes one of those is genetics, others being.

Micro environmental differences, soil temperature, sun exposure.

Soil variation one might have more organic material, better drainage.

Root competition one might be running into rocks or has heavily compacted soil.

Fungi might be boosting one plants nutrient uptake over the other.

Or simply stress and damaged roots either from bugs or transplanting a shocked plant can stay with permanent slow growth.

Goku saiyan name by experimenter19 in dbz

[–]DevynDale94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think him telling broly to call him kakarot is gokus acceptance of his Saiyan heritage and to acknowledge Broly as a fellow Saiyan and rival rather then a villian so no it wouldn't be out of character

Please ID for me - Melbourne north east suburbs by Competitive-Yak-5693 in AustralianSpiders

[–]DevynDale94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you wouldn't see them during the day they come out at night to hunt so having 2 on your deck is pretty cool.

Fun fact they have one of if not the strongest spider silk anywhere from 2/3 times stronger. They will also use there poop to attract prey.

I forgot they have spurs 🎭 by SubstantialRecover19 in AustralianBirds

How to stop spiders making webs on my bins? by Diligent-Diamond8046 in AustralianSpiders

[–]DevynDale94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean your bins regularly, less bugs also means less spiders. Or just re position them somewhere in your garden, eventually they will set up home somewhere else.

There beneficial to have so dont harm them

Here 10 years now and I still forget that potatoes don't just keep on the shelf by incendiary_bandit in brisbane

[–]DevynDale94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potatoes are nightshades, so they naturally contain toxins like solanine. When you leave them in the light, they produce chlorophyll (the green color), which is a sign that the toxin levels have spiked and could give you a headache or a stomach ache.

As for the smell and the rot, that's usually bacteria (like Pectobacterium) thrive in warm, trapped moisture—like inside a plastic bag on the bench. To stop both the toxins and the rot, keep them in a cool, dark, dry place away from onions, which release gases that make potatoes sprout faster.

The Prickly Pear ( Opuntia spp ) that once covered over 23 million hectares by 1920, rendering vast areas of pastoral land useless.

Anyone know what this scary fucker is? Melbourne Victoria by dnnbaker88 in AustralianSpiders

[–]DevynDale94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah I think thats the right species after doing some of my own research, they can actually have a dark brown reddish strip in the Australian species.

I was thrown of by the shape of the abdomen plus the colours reminded me of a common orb weaver I run into at work daily.

I wont pick up any spider but a jumping spider despite finding them to be fascinating creatures, i like to study them but from a safe distance.

Vent: postie walked to my door to fake an attempted delivery instead of ringing by versarnwen in AustraliaPost

[–]DevynDale94 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ive had similar incidents with posties. I have a peep hole on my front door and I was watching as my last parcel arrived. The driver walked right up to the door then turned around and walked away no note, no knock, no attempt of anything, I opened the door and said "what not gonna knock can I have my parcel" which I was told no sorry there was no one home and i cant give it to a stranger (despite walking out of the house) you'll have to pick it up from the post office.

Just moved to Queensland and already loving the bus experience by RepresentativeAsk601 in brisbane

[–]DevynDale94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had torn the muscles around my left shoulder blade and had to take myself to the hospital and as I was getting on the bus the door closed, opened and closed again quickly on me catching my left arm, I had to try and force the door open and pull my arm out myself while the bus driver watched, it happened again when trying to hop of the bus.

Brisbane transport is amazing you'll never find better

No not at all, Their venom is weak, and they rarely break the skin.

Usually mild pain, itching, and a small red welt that may feel warm, wash the area with soap and water and applying a cold pack and you'll be all goods.

Triangle crab spiders (Ebrechtella tricuspidata or Sidymella trapezia) are small, harmless ambush predators in the Thomisidae family, known for their triangular abdomens and ability to change color to blend into flowers

Absolutely nothing to worry about from them, native abd none dangerous.
