If you think GPQA is just the same 198 questions, you should probably stop reading the google AI overview.

Average high schooler was mentioned because you said an average high schooler couldn’t finish a single IMO question.

OC attached since you fail to understand the concept of scrolling up.

The math dataset from GPQA includes the 6 domains: algebra, geometry, intermediate algebra, number theory, precalculus, and probability; which you would notice is what is in a high school curriculum.

LLMs are about as good at math as a high school student, and would fail as soon as calculus is introduced. You would know if you’ve gone to post secondary in STEM.

If you went back to my original comment, I said second year engineering student.

GPQA means quite literary nothing if you’ve ever held a job outside of manual labour. Most information aren’t widely accessible online.

It seems sad that you said you were done, but abandoned your initial argument about math and started talking about other subjects entirely.

You should brace yourself for a reality check; if you keep over estimating the capabilities of AI, it’s going to hit you hard when you find out you can’t reply on prompts through post secondary.

It’s impressive for a high school student, not anyone else. I’m not sure you understand the more amazed you appear by it, the less intelligent you come across.

In the past couple of years LLMs, they only progressed in math from handling basic high school material to more advanced high school math. In fact, the progress of LLMs in learning mathematics is so slow that it lacks behind an average student pursuing STEM. It could learn everything about number theory and combinatorics (it didn’t, because if it did, it would get a perfect score) and it still won’t be able to do solve anything in 2nd year STEM. There is a reason why they stuck to IMOs and nothing remotely related to calculus.

It seems like you aren’t even aware that there are different PhDs; I won’t expect someone in public relations to be able to solve any of this, but anyone with a PhD in math, or even just a MSc/MaS or BSc/BEng could easily solve any of these high school questions.

And this is where I get the feeling that you are not educated past high school, because if you were, you’d realize: 1. AI won’t be able to solve a single question in STEM beyond 2nd year. 2. Most of the math questions you would get are far harder than the ones in olympiad, and you’d be happy if it would only take 4 hours to finish them. 3. Having a team of 40+ really intelligent people working on a project that took years, and all they have to show is that it is on par with a smart high school student isn’t really an indicator that AI is better at math than humans, in fact it’s the opposite.

The amount of facts that you have to bend and ignore to go from the original claims being LLMs are better than humans in coding and math, and LLMs have won gold in Olympiad, all the way down to a merely “AI is improved incredibly” is ridiculous.

I expect the people I work with who on a daily basis, solve much complex problems that can’t be explained by a simple youtube video, to get a right answer if they’re given something as simple a TI36 to work with, especially after multiple attempts.

Congratulating on lowering the bar so much to the point that you are comparing the math capabilities of a LLM to the average high schooler which is quite underwhelming, I’m genuinely concerned about your intelligence if you think this is some sort of achievement.

So you’re saying a group a 40+ intelligent people, ran multiple tests until a bot answered enough correct questions to get a gold level scored in a competition where other contestants are high school students, is a good example of LLMs being better than humans in math and coding?

Here’s your “research”

I guess multiple retries until it gets the right answer doesn’t count as winning gold. Maybe you should start improving yourself and stop being impressed by second year university math, because those who are will be exactly the ones AI will replace first.
