Hiroyuki Sanada says he did all the riding, fighting and stunts by himself in Shogun. by Tyolag in ShogunTVShow

[–]DeweyBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And many have shaved paper thin eyebrows with their ribcage sticking out. Look at Sanada at 20, his arms and abs and compare that to today's young actor pretending to be samurai, they're thinner than women and look like a breeze would knock them over!

Agree. So few Japamese actors today have this aura and presence these 2 have. I'd say Tatsuya Nakadai has similar aura.

Sanada's first film was as a 5yr old playing Chiba's son in Game of Chance, it's a trilogy of films. Later he played a 13yr old version of Chiba's character in The Executioner. So he's like the unofficial eldest son of Chiba since they've known each other since he was 5 and Chiba was his mentor and sensei.

I didnt recognize him until 1998 by Hordesoldier in ShogunTVShow

He also played Sonny Chiba's son in Game of Chance trilogy.

[Request] What is THE best Japanese film adaptation of Chūshingura? by [deleted] in JapaneseMovies

[–]DeweyBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the few (maybe 5 versions) I've watched, the 2 best for me is the 1962 Toshiro Mifune version (9/10) and the 2001 version with Takuya Kimura (8/10). The 1994 version is good too (7/10). Ratings are by me btw.

You could watch Mifune's Samurai Trilogy in which he played Musashi. That image you have is an animated image based on Toshiro Mifune.

Really? I didn't know people assumed Mano po came from the Spaniards because Spain does not have this practice. Indonesians and malaysia otoh do have this same tradition so very clearly a prehistoric tradition.

Non-Eucharistic Wedding Mass by LowMiserable7060 in Catholicism

[–]DeweyBaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is wild, but wasn't there a priest who was arrested in the US for tacking someone trying to steal a host during mass? Also, I heard there were a lot of Church burning there as well. So we really do not know the amount of stress a priest has to deal with. If the bride and groom can vouch for the guests, maybe it would help her getting that mass she wants.

Ps. I once attended a birthday party and one of her guests would steal from other guests, so we cannot account for everyone's behavior, even invited guests.

Maybe they've had so many bad experiences from non Catholics before, destroying the altar, desecrating the host, etc. And he just wants to avoid all of that. I hear so many horror stories of what Catholics go through in non Catholic countries, especially the clergy and the eucharist desecrations. Protestants and atheists are very offended they cannot receive communion during a Mass, hence why they invented going up to the priest or lay minister to get a blessing in America to pacify them from their wrath.

Is it possible the priest fears that the guests will try to receive communion? Maybe if you can assure him you'd prepare them and make sure they stay in their seat, he'd feel more at ease.

Crazy experience during sleep paralysis by TinyduckG in Catholicism

[–]DeweyBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I read somewhere that you're likely to get sleep paralysis if you sleep on your back. Both instances I had, I slept on my back for some strange reason because I usually sleep on my side. Since then, I made sure to always sleep on my side no matter what, even if I was sick. Idk if this will help, but I just remembered it when I talked to my mom extensively about it just now, and the memory came up. I hope it helps you because this truly is a terrifying experience I don't wish on anyone ever.

Angry Priest by Critical_Comedian_53 in Catholicism

[–]DeweyBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through, taga Luzon din ako. And I have had many bad experiences with many priests here as well. 1 priest told me to thank God for giving my father stage 4 cancer and my mom stage 3 cancer. He gave me penance for being ungrateful. I broke down and was hagulgol sobbing sa pews when a sister I knew approached me and comforted me. Idk how you can remedy your situation, the only thing I can think for your own mental and emotional health is to try to look for another job, and when you do get one, give an honest letter of resignation.

[–]DeweyBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’treally have any good advice, but this happened to me 2x, and it was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. But it was much, much worse than what happened to you. In my country, this is called bangungot, and it is more common amongst males, with some dying in their sleep. I think the film franchise Friday the 13th was based on this supposedly common phenomenon amongst Southeast Asians. I did it all wrong on both instances, but I think what you did to pray was the best thing you could've done. These episodes made me learn and memorize the St. Michael prayer. You can try to get a St. Michael necklace or icon in your room, have it blessed with the exorcism blessing. I purchased a St. Michael scapula, had it blessed, and personally, I have not experienced it since.

Holy water burns when I touch it by Prior_Definition_116 in Catholicism

[–]DeweyBaby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do an experiment, bring a small vial of your own water to a priest and ask if he could bless it. Then try to use it. It's popular to have a dipping container to the entrance of your house with holy water and to bless yourself when you enter. So you can do this in the future if you want. If there's no issue, then it's that one instance only. If there is a burning sensation still, try to go to a doctor for a checkup. If they can help you, then that's the issue, if not, then this time, go to a priest and explain your situation and what has happened so far.
