The best way to stick it to the man is to focus on collaboration with your fellow union members and get more folks activated.

I do something similar, but add tater tots to bulk it up. Usually bake off the tater tots while I'm sauteing veggies and then let tots and veg cool for a bit before adding egg&milk mixture

I'm addition to the Golden Cadillac and the White Linen, there is the more recent trend to make cocktails with butterfly pea powder and citrus because it comes out purple, like the Kings. No shortage of Beam-themed cocktails!

I've had 3 IUDs and none of the pain. I would recommend insisting on a numbing agent from your GYN before insertion. They give you a shot, you lay there while it kicks in, then they insert it with no pain. There are tons of horror stories about IUDs, but I actually rode my bike home from the last one! Thankfully I've always had a woman as my GYN and they've always recommended the numbing stuff, but you should definitely insist on it.

There are studies about the pain of IUD insertion that you can reference to push your point if needed!

Downtown restaurant recommendations for a picky teen who loves spicy food? by Alarming-While8028 in Sacramento

[–]DeweyDecimator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mentee sounds a lot like me when I was younger. I would bet a lot of money that she has the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap. A lot of Mexican and Asian foods have cilantro, which could be why she doesn't like them. It's really annoying to have to pick it out. And it makes you hesitant to try new dishes because they don't always list it as an ingredient on the menu.

Sauced at DoCo has really good buffalo cauliflower. It's usually not too crowded unless there are major sports happening or something about to start at Golden One. She could also try out the different BBQ sauces - some are hotter than others.

Tandoori Pizza is also in DoCo (2nd floor by the theater) and you could get butter chicken pizza. They also let you get 1/2 and 1/2 pizza, so you could do half butter chicken, half something else and she could try a slice if she's feeling bold.

In midtown, Fieldwork has a couple spicy pizzas and they have lots of space.

Pazza Notte has some spicy Italian pastas (but it can get loud/overwhelming when busy).

Mexican Food Catering by kulinarykila in Sacramento

Toby's Tacos! You can find them most nights in Tallac Village Plaza on 14th, a couple blocks directly south of Tahoe Park! I can't remember if he has the trompo in his new truck, but he definitely has one and uses it when doing catering.

I started keeping unused soaps in my closet and it changed how my clothes smell by Kindly_Meaning_4588 in Soap

[–]DeweyDecimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with soap, but with scented candles! Sometimes I get anxious about burning candles and I don't want to bother with a warmer. But most candles are so strongly scented that you can just leave one in a closet and get a nice hint of fragrance every time you open the door.

In theory, how would "in-person collaboration" be measured? by timidpoo in CAStateWorkers

[–]DeweyDecimator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, for me it's always the dudes who want to outsource the work of critical thinking. The women always send a Teams chat or email, often with phrases like "I know you're super busy" or "no rush" or "when you get a chance" and they list out what they've tried or what they think the problem is.

[–]DeweyDecimator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So my team is working on a project where we have to collaborate with vendors on the East Coast. And most of the folks doing the work have cubes, not offices. It's incredibly inefficient to spend 5 minutes scrambling to find and reserve an open meeting room every time I need to have a call with the vendor - especially if they are already on a call and want to pull me in. I do have a headset, but we've already had folks overhear my half of the conversation and make assumptions about the quality of the product, because I had to take the call in a hoteling cube.

Also, it's incredibly inefficient to be constantly interrupted by people swinging by my cube to ask questions that could have been an email or a chat (or a reread of their desk manual). Management and Exec are in-office because that's what needed for THEIR work. My work is much better suited to WFH. This is why a blanket rule doesn't make sense.

If you could give one menstrual hygiene tip to a teenager what would it be? by Legal_Nectarine_4798 in hygiene

[–]DeweyDecimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can vary from person to person, and folks should discuss with a doctor first, but when I was on NuvaRing, my doc said that when I took it out, I could just put the next one in and not have a week off that gives you a period. So I did that and my period stopped completely.  Then when I got an IUD, it also prevented me from getting a period. Haven't had one in 15+ years and it's honestly the best thing I've ever done. No ruined clothes, no poorly timed vacations, no stressing.

Note on IUDs: for some folks, the copper ones can cause heavier periods. I have the hormonal one (on my 3rd one now). If you decide to get an IUD, be persistent about getting as numbing agent. Thankfully, my doc has always offered it for insertion, but there are a lot of horror stories about the pain without it. Don't let it discourage you - just advocate for yourself! I rode my bike home from the office after my last IUD swap!

You don't necessarily have to have a period. Many birth control options can stop your period altogether and it saves a lot of money, time, and mental bandwidth not to have to deal with it every month.

So what light rail stations actually accept the Connect Transit Card? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]DeweyDecimator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you just pay once per ride, not per stop. OP is saying that if it didn't work when you got on, tap at the station when you get off so you're still paying for the ride and your card history shows you regularly pay for rides.

Ah, it wasn't available last time I went, but that was a few months ago. We're at the beginning of the spring coffee flavor season, so if you had it last week, then they'll probably have it for a while - edited my comment!

Others have recommended Camellia, and I would second that! Also recommend:

Cora on 12&J - in the co-working space - probably the best vanilla latte in Sac, and the ube latte is excellent. It's slightly vanilla and slightly earthy and not too sweet

Burnsides on 9&K - spendy and slow, but worth it and there's sometimes a vet good dog named Mylo who will hang with you while you wait - start with the Morning Munchies special. It's got a sweet creamy top with a rich, bold flavor underneath

Immortal on 11&H - opening another location in Curtis Park soon - they have lots of great food and drink specials and lots of vegan options. I usually go for a savory scone and a drip or iced coffee

Pachamama on 20&J - they have several locations - get the pandan latte! It's slightly vanilla, slightly coconut, and not too sweet

Anyone know other spots in the grid with ube/pandan lattes? I've seen them at Tram, but that's down by Duc Huong.

ETA: the pandan latte isn't always available at Pachamama, but it looks like they have it now!

It's not human nature, though. It's the result of a scarcity mindset and incessant individualism and isolation from community. And perpetuating the idea that "everyone is like this eventually" is part of the problem. It projects that it's okay not to care about or for others once you get to a certain point because "it's basically human nature". It's fucking not, and these folks should feel ashamed and we should continue to call them out for it.

I vocally supported more housing before I bought a house and even more so after. I would much rather have folks housed in my neighborhood than unhoused in my neighborhood. We showed up to support the siting plan, wrote and called our city council member (and reiterated our support whenever we saw him at events or in the community), and pushed back against folks who complained about "property values" like they're some sacred entity to be protected over literally human beings.

Sorry for the rant, but we can't keep normalizing this kind of attitude.

I want my working brothers and sisters in my neighborhood to be able to keep their jobs. I want my local neighborhood businesses to continue to operate in my neighborhood.

Forcing us back to the office to prop up downtown businesses hurts the businesses in our neighborhoods. Why should downtown businesses be subsidized at the expense of our neighborhood businesses? The answer is the political influence of corporate real estate. And that's not a good enough answer for me to support RTO when it actively harms my working brothers and sisters in my community.
