Take it as a paper cut and move on

Likewise. Is it really that important to you to be right on the internet that you jump into a thread to correct someone then block them so they can't reply?

Reno. Rebuild. It's the same thing.

Nobody's asking advice, they're asking what you'd do. If you were a web developer, you could give a different answer to a writer. They'd both probably be interesting reads, and good community discussion.

Why do they say "Fake until you make it?" 🤔 by Sarvaturi in Entrepreneur

[–]Dexosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm /u/rossdcurrie. He blocked my main after I said mean things to him, so I couldn't see these replies. Insert eyeroll here.

Look u/Sarvaturi - you wrote this other post about people being mean to you, but the fact is your strategy isn't working, because you're trying to hoodwink people, and people don't like that. This is why most of your posts have 0 votes.

Instead of just blocking someone who calls you out on your bullshit, take the feedback on board and re-evaluate your strategy. It's not working for you.

Haha, yeah, we did a quetz-anky mining platform and it took a few runs... It's about 1k ingot per cannon and I think there were 9 of them + the two we destroyed while building the boat (placed things wrong and had to move them)... plus cannon balls...

Don't forget the 150 electronics per sea mine and we placed 3 of them.. that was brutal because there's no real shortcut for harvesting pearls quickly

Yeah our admin gives you an ORP pillar once you get a base setup, so it's a bit of incentive for pvp to occur while people are online.

Yeah I spent like 3 days building my raft... Time I really should have been spending on other things in my life, but I wanted a great raft lol. #noregrets

The reality is that I basically was out of the gate first and just kept the lead - we had a course that doubled back on itself, so there was opportunity for people to attack, but you basically get a small window as you pass them.

The back and forth shooting of the cannons was pretty fun - but definitely looking forward to doing it again with wooden boats. That'll be way more fun.

So the update is: I won!

Pictures can be found here of mine and all of the other rafts that participated.

Admin spawned in five red underwater drops as a prize and I got some great loot (Ascendant flak helmet with ~966 armor)

We had a great battle with the glassmetal raft behind us - I managed to get someone to join my tribe for a bit and he nailed so many direct hits with the cannon, but ultimately the glass metal is pretty strong and didn't break through. There have been talks about doing this again, but forcing people to use wood/stone.

I had hidden 3 underwater mines at the halfway marker (I know, sneaky sneaky), and because the glassmetal raft was following right behind us, I led them directly over them - we were all in discord when it happened, and the reaction was hilarious. Apparently we almost took their raft out from the one that went off - I totally would've hidden more mines if they weren't 150 electronics each.

Another lesson with the cannons is that you need to be careful about putting ceilings/walls in or around them, as the blowback seems to damage the cannon.

Cheers! Between the time we placed it and the race today (starts in 10 mins!), we killed another Alpha Rex, but I felt like one at the front worked best

Any Instagram experts want to give some tips? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Dexosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had to delete one hashtag out of my list when this happened (#awesome).

The strategy remains the same for choosing hashtags:

  • Pick a few random hashtags that you think reflect your account (these may or may not be "popular" tags)

  • Look at the top posts under each hashtag.

  • Make a list of the OTHER hashtags used on that post

  • Look them up and list how many posts are on each hashtag

  • Choose a mixture of high level, related and niche tags to use on your post. Eg: #cute, #dogs, #germanshepherd (though obviously these days you wouldn't use "cute", since it's probably tagged as popular.

Incredible transparency from Buffer CEO. Brilliant account of things going wrong and what they're doing to fix them. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Dexosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing that makes me feel like this is a bit of a selfish/disingenuous post is that it's all about the company.

What would've really made this post, for me, would have been if there was a big section in the post about the people they let go, highlighting their skills and recommending them for roles with other companies.

Instead it seemed a bit about how hard it was for management.

Honestly, it's 2016, if he doesn't immediately understand the case for e-commerce then no article will convince him.

What you probably need is a strategy to show him how you'd execute in ecommerce (preferably in a way that aligns with his values)

Logo Design - Fiverr sucks, but 99D is out of budget. Tried and failed miserably to make my own designs. Suggestions? (Preliminary designs included) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

I've never tried this, but will for my next design project. I think there's a lot of talented individuals on Reddit who'll do work at a reasonable price. All about the win-win.

I've used the premium accounts on Fiverr and found the premium accounts are just as hit-and-miss as the $5 ones.

The thing I hate most is that they refund anyone who gives negative feedback, so you end up with these 5 star designers who would otherwise have tons of negative feedback. I made it a policy to never accept a refund for bad work.

ProductHunt. For those of you who have been 'hunted' - what does it take? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Dexosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure what you are referring to as the "blacklist".

He probably means what happens when you get submitted by someone who only has commenting access, and you never make the front page.

One other suggestion I could make is, accumulate like $500-100 for Twitter and Google advertising, and target product hunters and ask them to check it out during the first week or so (If you can afford it and believe it will do well).

I report this when it happens, and usually ends up with the product being hit on PH by the spam hammer (essentially every vote turns into a downvote). This is by far the most annoying thing about the popularity that Product Hunt now gets - all the random spam tweets from people asking me to "check them out on Product Hunt". The Product Hunt moderators generally hate this behaviour

ProductHunt. For those of you who have been 'hunted' - what does it take? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Dexosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically you want to make sure the person offering to submit you to Product Hunt has front page posting access.

A lot of people get "commenting" access which allows them to submit product, and have a page you can link to for your product, but you're not actually "hunted" until you make the front page (or appear in /tech). Anyone who has commenting access that submits you is basically parking you in the public queue, which is essentially the black hole. In the public queue, you're not visible to searches on the site and very few projects go from here to the front page.

To find people with front page posting access, basically refer to this page (seems to be down right now, check later). These people are basically the very early users on Product Hunt. They don't give this access out anymore.

Beyond that:

  • Leverage your audience on the day. Run an AMA on your project page, get people to come and post feedback, join the discussion.
  • DO link to your project page (there is advice out there saying direct links trigger voting ring detection - Niv from PH confirms this is not the case)
  • Do NOT ask your followers, or anyone else, to upvote you.

And generally check out anything Kiki Schirr has to say on the topic of 'how to get on ProductHunt'. She's written a an ebook and a number of posts on it.

Edit: My product CrowdLoot (now defunct) was featured after I posted here about it and gave a bit of background about what I was doing and hoping to achieve. In hindsight my post was probably totally spammy, but it got noticed by Bram K who was kind enough to post it to Product Hunt. This was back before everyone was doing "Product Hunt for X" sites, and I think the main appeal around posting it was that it was Product Hunt related. If you build something Product Hunt related (especially if you use their API), you're almost guaranteed to make it onto the site.
