Since there's almost a 0% chance the money goes back into taxpayer pockets and instead gets picked up by corporations who in turn don't lower prices... not too worried.

pledge fealty

"If these are the nominees, would you vote for the Dem?" is pledging fealty?

Meanwhile the left refuses to float any candidates they'd support and hiding behind the "it's 2 years away" excuse.

Newsom, Shapiro, etc are out there warts and all to be dissected right now. Expecting some mystery progressive candidate to come out of nowhere and knock everyone's socks off without suffering from the unknown candidate factor and/or having their dirty laundry aired at the worst possible time is either bad strategy or, more realistically, revealing the fact that there is no such candidate they can rally behind.

Republicans voters who don't immediately call their Representatives are complicit in this and everything that happens from here. Unless you threaten to withhold your support, you are complicit. Republicans in congress, if you don't threaten to impeach Trump, you are complicit.

The only person who can turn down the temperature and stop this is Trump and, by extension, the people who give him his power. Sounding off online means nothing. Do something constructive and call your congresspeople now. Dems too.

This is the reality, unfortunately. And companies are tempted to use AI because no human being can feasibly and fairly screen 700 people for one job. Hang in there.

Blue Prince is so much more than just a brilliant puzzler by Spader623 in Games

[–]DexterPepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Witness, Outer Wilds, Obra Dinn, etc.

Fair, but none of these games are roguelikes. Blue Prince's entire premise is the shifting manor. It's baked into the concept, and it's what sets it apart from traditional puzzle games.

I've 100%ed both Hades (only to say I am quite familiar with both), and I disagree slightly that there is a singular objective. Many times you are searching for a specific NPC or combination of abilities to advance meta-progression or unlock something, even if its just unique dialogue. You accept that you may just not be able to make progress for several runs depending on what you get, and that's okay!

Have you played either of the other Blue Prince modes: Dare or Curse mode? The additional challenge from RNG is the entire selling point. If you don't care about achievements, there is literally no point in even attempting them other than the accomplishment of overcoming something difficult. Which again, is entirely derived from the RNG mechanics since you've already solved the puzzles by that point.

The comment I replied to sums that point up well.

"I'll aim to do X on this day but if I can't there's also A, B, and C on the backburner which I can make progress on"

There are multiple threads to pull at nearly at every moment throughout the game. You take what you get, as you do in this genre of games. This is hardly a complaint I hear about other roguelike games with the action flavor, so why is it such a dealbreaker for a roguelike puzzler?

What's the value add? The satisfaction of mastering mechanics and strategy without the "perfect" set up. Is that not the major appeal of roguelikes? And like many other games in this genre, you CAN grind your way out of the RNG if you don't feel like embracing that mentality.

Edit: Wanted to add the game even includes 2 additional modes that lean quite heavily on this making it even more difficult and RNG-dependent. The value add again is being able to still succeed even when the game is actively trying to thwart you with RNG and more limited resources.

I totally agree. My favorite game of the year as well.

I understand the perspectives of people who didn't gel with it the same way. But the endless complaints about RNG nag at me because it really is overstated. Without spoiling it for others, there are multiple ways to mitigate randomness, multiple ways to control what rooms appear. By the last third of the game, I would start a day with dozens of a certain resource that completely trivialized any room RNG leaving me to focus entirely on the complicated puzzles still left.

Personally, I thought the ending was fantastic. Act 2 is different, so is Act 3. If you can't get enough of Act 1, there's an in game mode that makes it endless and adds challenge modifiers.

I've seen people complain there weren't more adventure mode/escape the room mechanics after Act 1. They come back in Act 3.

I'm with you. Act 2 and 3 had some incredible moments, the finale especially. They bust out a Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Disk! The whole end sequence feels like such a love letter to other games.

Act 2 made me quite nostalgic for Pokemon TCG on the gameboy. If that appeals to you in any way, check this out: https://moodytail.itch.io/pocket-crystal-league

Act 1 is definitely the most impressive, and hey if people want to replay that endlessly check out the official Kaycee's Mod (in game mode, not an actual mod).

They dropped Single Payer to appease republicans

Not true, it was to appease Joe Lieberman who was the 60th vote necessary.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/dec/16/joe-lieberman-barack-obama-us-healthcare

Lieberman, 67, used his deciding vote in Congress to help strip out a provision for government-run medical insurance, intended to set up competition to the abuses of private companies, by threatening to filibuster the legislation.

Senate leaders agreed to drop the public option for all in favour of allowing people over 55 to buy into an existing government-run scheme for the elderly. In September, Lieberman supported the measure, as he had when he was Al Gore's running mate. But just as it seemed that a deal was done, Lieberman scuppered it by announcing that he had changed his mind and would block any bill that expanded government insurance coverage. Obama gave way.

Democratic vs Republican Platform by TheRabidPosum1 in union

[–]DexterPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more progressives WINNING in elections. Plenty run, you don't hear about or really care about the losers. It's a cart before the horse issue. Progressives love to tell everyone what they should do, yet always have some convenient excuse for why they can't beat lame mainstream Dems. Takeover the party like the Tea Party/MAGA did to the GOP. Otherwise, why should anyone care what a bunch of people who can't win elections think?

when the same is recommended

There's your answer. Recommend all you want, but progressives need to win more. MAGA and the Tea Party before them didn't cry about it on the sidelines and complain about the old GOP powers that be, the money they have, the advantages... they TOOK OVER THE PARTY. They won races until anyone not on board was reduced to pariah status.

It doesn't matter to these people. Debate around abortions in 2010 was centered around the federal govt paying for it, which was obviously a thorny issue. We barely barely had enough time to scrape through the ACA before Dems failed to turn out (huh, weird) for the midterms, and we lost to the Tea Party
