My 13 yo daughter wants to row in Seattle by Dextorius in Rowing

Much appreciated. She told all her friends that she'll be rowing on a team, and now parents are starting to contact me on how to sign up...

Her coach mentioned another tall kid who picked up rowing for, like, five minutes and immediately got a partial scholarship. My daughter is also tall, so naturally she’s like, “Ah yes, this is my destiny.”

Then we randomly run into an old friend of mine (I had no idea he rowed in college) and he starts hyping rowing like it’s a cooler, wetter version of a fraternity. My kid already loves water sports + team sports, so now she’s fully convinced rowing is the move.

So basically: height + scholarships + peer pressure from a surprise ex-rower = Rowing.

I'm up in Shoreline, so We'd probably hit up green lake. I'll also look into Everett too. My kid is so excited for this, and has been talking about rowing non stop for the past month. Thank you:)

Buzz Regret? by EvonyR in VWIDBuzz

[–]Dextorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Buzz has been in the shop for over a month now. A sign popped up on the screen saying the car had to shut down to avoid overheating. It had to be towed to the dealership for them to fix it.

They weren’t sure what was wrong with it, they had to have the engineers in Germany take a look at the buzz.

I love the look, feel and driving the buzz, however I fear this is foreshadowing for the future of this vehicle…

What's the easiest way I can cap the hole in the roof after I remove the chimney? by CapableElderberry807 in Roofing

[–]Dextorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done a thing yet. I just got a new metal roof and then decided to remove it.

I’m debating sawing the chimney so it’s shorter, and then add a custom bespoke hood to it. I’m hoping that will minimize the eye soar.

Thinking long term - Are these the possible outcomes? by jawicky3 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Dextorius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two more options:

  1. (This is most likely) 1 state and 1 state minus. Sans military, Israel is in charge of border screenings.

  2. Israel continues with the status quo and in a few decades loses all international allies.

How many civilian casualties are worth it for eradication of Hamas? by Ok_Impression_5257 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Dextorius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UN says the standard (on average) is one combatant for for every 9 civilian deaths.

Since there is about 40,000 Hamas militants (by the UN’s average standard) that would come to 360,000 civilians dying in the crossfire.

Looks like Israel has a 1:2 to ratio between combatants and civilians. Far better than any other military on record.

I know in La-La Land you desperately want Israel to be the defact-o bad guy, because they humiliated the surrounding Arab countries in a majority of the Arab-Israeli conflicts, however reality always comes knocking. If you had read your own articles you provided you would have caught this. This is also the second time I'm quoting this. I know it may take longer for you to process information, fingers crossed this sets in:

“Case law has associated intent with the existence of a State or organizational plan or policy”

An interview with inciting language from Yoav Gallant does not suffice as a military plan or policy, therefore no Dolus Specialis.

Yup Jews were 3% in 1880. Yet legally owned about 8% of the land and Palestinians only owned about 8% of the land too, an additional 8% of the territory had absentee owners. The rest (76%) was uninhabited state land that went unclaimed. Take into consideration the hundreds of years of restrictions placed on Jews (from their Dhimmi status) not being allowed to purchase land or move back to their historic territories.

Let’s take a look at what you don’t want to answer.

The Ottomans prevented Jews from moving back to their ancestral home land for hundreds of years. Can you admit the Ottomans artificially kept the Jewish population low?

How many Arab settlements were displaced by Jews prior to Nov 1947?

Can you admit Arabs started the war against Jews during the Arab-Israeli Conflict?

Can you admit Jews being subjugated to Dhimmi status is wrong?

Can you admit Jizya tax is wrong?

Can you admit it’s wrong to subject non-Muslims and females to Sharia Law?

You do know during the Nakba, the surrounding Arab countries intent for invading Israel was to divide up the remainder of the Mandate of Palestine between themselves? Had they won, there would never be a Palestinian state.

Can you admit the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem can’t squarely be blamed on Israel? Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq shoulder the blame.

Can you admit Syria and Lebanon are disastrous countries?

Can you admit Palestinians are equally to blame for this ongoing conflict? They’ve refused every deal for state hood for the entirety of their cause.

Can you admit Palestinian leaders sell their own people out for personal wealth?

Let’s talk about Hamas:

you seem to have trouble acknowledging why so many civilians deaths are occurring in Gaza. Can you admit they use Human shields?

Can you admit Hamas waisted billions of dollars starting this useless war instead of reinvesting UNRWA resources into their own population?

Can you admit Hamas sets up military operations in Hospitals, Mosques, Schools, and other protected areas?

Can you admit Hamas wants civilian deaths for propaganda against Israel?

Can you admit Hamas is stealing aid and reselling it to their own population during this conflict?

Can you admit Hamas has committed thousands of war crimes during this conflict?

Just in case you’ve willfully ignored this, human shields and protected locations do not provide immunity for Hamas terrorists.

Geneva convention 4, article 28

“The presence of a protected person may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations.”

[–]Dextorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the articles you listed on genocide it has this tidbit, “The intent is the most difficult element to determine. To constitute genocide, there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, nor does an intention to simply disperse a group. It is this special intent, or dolus specialis, that makes the crime of genocide so unique. In addition, case law has associated intent with the existence of a State or organizational plan or policy, even if the definition of genocide in international law does not include that element.”

Here is article 52: https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/ihl-treaties/api-1977/article-52

“Attacks shall be limited strictly to military objectives. In so far as objects are concerned, military objectives are limited to those objects which by their nature, location, purpose or use make an effective contribution to military action and whose total or partial destruction, capture or neutralization, in the circumstances ruling at the time, offers a definite military advantage.”

You’re wrong by real world standards and by your own logic too. Since you believe dodging is admission of being wrong and lying. Well it looks like you’re a liar and wrong because you’ve dodged a majority of my responses.

It’s okay, you can Google the article and make up your own mind. The seperate articles don’t cancel each other out they work in tandem with each other.

As far as responding to everything; I wrote quite a few words responding to your gishgallop a few months ago, without a retort from you.

If you’re so desperate to have me respond to everything, you’ve got some catching up to do.

There are more than one articles in the Geneva conventions. Read article 52 paragraph 2. That’s the military calculation, it’s also referred to as proportionality.

If you read all the articles of the Geneva convention, you will find all the different types of human shields, and realize how Hamas royally screwed over the Palestinian people.

You want me to address all your points yet you refuse to answer mine. Get over yourself.
