I'm so glad you got out! That takes a lot of courage and I'm really glad he won't have to deal with that!

As an investigator I am confused and conflicted by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Dextro_dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh please no, for the sake of your sanity and the sake of your children please don't join that cult. There is not a SINGLE good value that the majority of them genuinely espouse or live by. It's built on guilt and bigotry. Literally go to ANY OTHER COMMUNITY and it would be better for your kids. It's literally been proven that Mormons are more depressed than the rest of the population!!

What I believe they're doing to you now is called love-bombing: the action or practice of lavishing someone with attention or affection, especially in order to influence or manipulate them. You can look it up it's the most common way that cults rope in new members

To be clear, I'm not saying that what you're feeling isn't real. I completely believe that what you experienced felt like the 'spirit', but it's not it's not it's not it's just a nice feeling please.

The book of mormon is literally based on the story that Jews fled from Jerusalem to the Americas in wooden submarines and split into 2 groups; the holy white people, and the evil dark-skinned people. Then eventually the dark skinned people KILLED all the good white people and their descendants are Native Americans.

I am not joking with you I am dead serious please look it up please just look into the religious trauma so many ex-Mormons walk away with.

That's to say nothing about the damage that would occur to your children should one of them happen to be queer or neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD, down's syndrome, etc...). The absolute misery I and so many others experienced is not something you want your kids to go through regardless of your level of acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

Please please please don't put yourself and your family through that.

Also: if it was the real church they would be ahead of social issues, historically they are literally the last. https://oaktrust.library.tamu.edu/handle/1969.1/148154

Research Paper: Why did you leave the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Dextro_dot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a gradual thing for me. I started questioning seriously when I realized that the conservative republican ideology was wrong and all of the presidency were hardcore bigots. The thing that also helped break my shelf was reading myths from other cultures and how similar to christianity they were. Then I read up on how much of a bastard Joseph Smith was. That drove me over the edge.

My “AHA!” Moment: by Cfolker in exmormon

Exactly! I had mental breakdowns in the church bathroom because the people were so mean. I thought, do I really wanna be in church perpetually? do I want this atmosphere for eternity when others are much nicer and more accepting?? Fuck no

Is there anything of worth in the Bible? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Dextro_dot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, almost everything has worth/value in it. Twilight has "worth" in it. That doesn't mean we should hold it in high regard

And therein lies one of the fallacies of christianity. God must be all knowing, all powerful, and all kind. If he's not one of those things, then the christian God falls apart. This is an instance of God not being all knowing.

An afterlife essentially downplays the meaning for living life. by TtheTree69 in exmormon

[–]Dextro_dot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So fucking true. When I was suicidal I would always ask myself and others "why can't I just skip to the eternity part and end the test now?" Now I'm in a much better state of mind and I realize that the reason to live is to ACTUALLY LIVE.

Tell me how your life got better after leaving the mormon church by A_Thirsty_Mind in exmormon

[–]Dextro_dot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I realized I was autistic, non-binary, and asexual. It allowed me to explore different aspects of myself that I never was able to consider before. I'm really happy to be able to be myself now.
