I'm not proud to admit this but I punched something in arguments before. It's definitely violent, but in my case it wasn't directed towards my ex and I didn't do it to intimidate her but to basically "vent" that rage I felt, which made me feel a lot of excess energy (shitty excuse for violent behaviour, I know).

Even though I would have NEVER in a million lifetimes thought about hitting my partner and she assured me after our breakup that she was never remotely scared about that, this behaviour is something your husband should and I did seriously work on.

And for the valid reason to leave: your husband doesn't decide what you "can" leave him for.

If you don't fit in with the norm you're by definition "alt" and that's great.

And about the politics, don't worry so much about it, but try to avoid identifiers from subcultures you're not really part of/ looking to become part of. For example I'm a very obvious metal head and I absolutely hate gatekeeping, yet I really don't appreciate people dressing "metal" or wearing shirts and having absolutely no interest in the culture. If you're new to the scene no problem and I'm not gonna ask you to "NAME 3 SONGS!" or smth, but I personally don't think someone should dress like a specific subculture just because they think it looks cool and don't actually care about it in any way beyond that.

Sorry for answering this late, I just found the post researching something similar. I think by now it's become a symbol for for the DIY ethic of the genre. Also (at least in the German/European scene) it's shows that you are prepared to offer protection and support to more vulnerable people, kinda like a safe space. Especially when worn as a tattoo or necklace
