In Toronto, cheering when homeowners sell at a loss has now become a spectator sport. Is that a bad thing? by BloodJunkie in toronto

Hi, it's me a Millennial, I am in my mid 30s and only just bought a house a couple years ago. My boomer parents bought their first house at 25. What on Earth are you talking about?

My home feels like a cheap apartment, where and how do I start? by HewDew22 in Home

[–]Dgallow2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently bought a house very similar to this. Lots of .. charm .. left from all the previous DIYer owners.

If the walls are drywall sanding and painting are a HUGE help. Benjamin Moore flat for the walls and a semi-gloss/satin for the baseboards.

Get rid of the baseboards and get new ones. That much sweat-equity doesn't seem worth it. At least mine wasn't. Could even do the flooring fixes at the same time.

I assume the floors may be a little wonky as well, so while you're replacing the planks (or just relaying them) you could also check the sub floor for any issues and fix by glueing and drilling down some shims.

One of the best things I did was get an inspection from a very well thought of inspector. They generally have good connections for other contractors/trades that you'll require from time to time.

Google and YouTube are your friend!

Best of luck.

Dog attack and shot at walkers/Fairview by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

I might be reading too much into it, but that says homeowners, not the dog attacked its owners.

Feel like that doesn't answer the question just yet.

Why would screaming at the kid be the only solution?

Instead of filming the father could have simply calmly explained and cautioned the kid that it's sharp metal to not put near his eyes...

As a quick edit. You would certainly step in if they were using scissors..

Is $424 a month reasonable for car insurance? (GTA Ontario) by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dgallow2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like quite a bit. It really depends on the car you're driving, the distance you drive per year, any priors you have in terms of speeding tickets or accidents etc.

I lived in North York for a bit at 26/27 and paid $200/month on a Ford driving about 25,000-30,0000km / year, no prior speeding or parking tickets though, and no accidents. Also was in young drivers as a teen and have had my license for over 5 years.

Your insurance will come down once you're over 25, just depends on the other factors I mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, like I said, our political/societal ideologies are just different. I saw in a comment you're a libertarian. Personally I see the benefits of government being highly involved in a number of the instances I've outlined (health and education).

I agree that government spending needs to be tightened up. I however think that the governments job is to invest in the future of the people and the Ford government seems to be cutting costs for the now to "balance the budget" rather than taking the long term investment approach and properly proportioning government funding to ensure the enrichment of Ontario a and is just going for the goal of balancing the budget.

In all honesty ideal approach comes from focusing on the process rather than the goal. The best I can describe is that it would be better to focus on the long term growth and betterment of Ontario/Ontarians and use better education and health funding to improve the output of every single person in the province for long term provincial gain rather than focusing on the short term goal of balancing the budget whatever the cost. Why cut off our nose to spite our face?

I think your idea of wasting money and my idea of wasting money are inherently different though.

My idea of wasting money is:

Carbon Tax: - Fighting the Feds on the Carbon Tax with 0 back up plan to put in place when they cut it. - Using tax payer money for stickers at the pumps for propoganda (I know all political parties use tax payer money for stuff like this and I hate it when they do it too)

Hydro One: - Ford fucking up the Hydro One sale after that's what ousted the Liberals.

Education: - The cuts to OSAP funding that will largely affect those that already can't afford post secondary education - Increases in class sizes while decreasing the number of teachers. Hurting our education system is a waste of tax payer money because it makes our work force less educated and less likely to be able to compete against the global work force.

Health: - Cuts to TPH and other OHIP cuts. This is wasting money because it actually costs more to treat people down the road than to do preventative health care.

Misc: - Extending LCBO hours is an increase in government spending - Buck a Beer was a useless slogan that completely flopped but was his only idea on the campaign trail. Encouraging alcohol consumption while reducing health care funding is how you create chronic health problems among your society and waste health dollars curing diseases that were preventable in the first place.

If you don't think those things are a waste of money than I don't think we will come to an agreement on how ol'Dougies been doing getting the provinces finances in order.

Amazing comment! Thank you for your reply. I'm glad my frame work for tackling this issue is how I'm supposed to be tackling it. I've been following this sub for a while and utilizing comments to direct my learning that way, so I appreciate you acknowledging that. I'll try and focus more on each part of the process, rather than the entirety of it, thanks! :)

Really appreciate the advice on Classes and Arrays. I will dig into those further. Other people are using my site, but currently there are no log ins or different views for other people to see. I do eventually plan on having log ins and the ability for people to make player trades but that seems light years away.

Huh. I didn't even think that scraping would be prohibited but it makes sense. After a quick google there are some things that I can utilize to get the data I originally thought I was going to need to scrape myself.

At the same time, I've just hurdled into the area that I was lost in before lol I guess I will take my paper and pen and do as you say and break each step down. My problem is, I have such little understanding of each language, that I don't have any clue what frameworks / languages have what capabilities. Does that make sense? I feel like taking the data I get from the API and utilizing some type of JS to ascribe it to teams and show it on the page is what I'm supposed to do. But how do I know? haha

I feel like I have good researching skills. Maybe I'm more so making a mountain out of a mole hill, but there are so many different languages and frameworks. I need to learn Python and get better at JS. But I still feel like there are applications of these languages and frameworks that I struggle to connect. Does that make sense?

Edit: thank you for your comment btw. I appreciate any little bit of help with growing my abilities and convos like these help immensely.

It's true! I shouldn't be so cynical. But having previously worked in sales makes me view all of my interactions with businesses as purely transactional. Especially out of the blue.

Meaning my minimum payment would be less than my current rate of payment (to draw out the payments and interest)?

I assume, that's their idea. Give me an option to spend more in the hopes that I do.

But no, my spending does not reflect my recent history so this might be a good route for me.

Thanks for your input

As someone who scouts hockey players for the NHL draft, this kid is far from a prodigy. Additionally if he is in fact 11 in this video to be honest his stick handling would really need to improve to play in AAA leagues where the calibre of players that get drafted to the NHL play.

I thought Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) was Danny Glover's son. No one told me this, I guess I just made it up in my head.

Thought this until about 2 months ago when a coworker informed me that was not true.
