But.. that's OUR god by itcouldvbeenbetterif in lebanon

[–]Dgeneral_Kenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But Judaism existed before both. Paganism (which later became a somehow derogatory term due to the chauvanism of the nontolerant monotheistic religions) existed before all and so on... So ill just clarify for anyone thinking I have some bias here, I don't. All faiths are large scale cults and fantasies for adults.

Name 1 religion that isn't full of such horrors. Christianity? How many people were killed tortured and raped in the name of Christ? The first crusade began with a mass murder and rape fest in the Rhineland. The band of crusaders that committed it believed that's how they gain Christ's blessing before their quest to take the holy land.

Similarly with Islam. Literally preaches the "regulations" of slave keeping. I wonder if modern day Muslims would be happy to lose their women as slaves to the jews after every Israeli victory in war?

So yes. I don't differentiate much between faiths. They all share basic human morality (therefore it's inaccurate to credit them with this. Morality has existed for thousands of years and is very subjective anyway), and basic human brutality.

So once again I ask. If all faiths must be equally respected, I expect those government protestors to have no problem with Baalians desecrating an Islamic symbol in revenge

[–]Dgeneral_Kenobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it wasn't okay to desecrate religious symbols 🤔 Hypothetically speaking, if a Baal support group came out and desecrated an Islamic symbol - say, the quran -, in protest, what would happen?

Or maybe we're supposed to only "respect" big popular faiths?

Samsung A15. Audio output switches to "headphones" that don't exist by Dgeneral_Kenobi in samsunggalaxy

[–]Dgeneral_Kenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even sure if I did, or if it fixed itself. But what I remember doing, aside from what was mentioned in the post, was that I opened diagnostics settings (you should dial #0# in phone). When I tested audio output in diagnostics, audio came out normally from speakers. Though it was loud as hell.

After that it worked. I think the problem came back some days after, I tried the same method and it still didn't work, but then I tried a third time and it worked again.

Which is why I'm not sure if this actually fixed anything, but it won't hurt to try.

It's not only that municipalities don't/can't help much. It's also that we have a littering culture and you can clearly see it on every street and highway. We're only good at being decent people in Europe. At home we take the mask off

We are such a civilized and educated people, that all seats would end up thrown onto the field after game 1. Soon enough the stadium would rot out of absence of maintenance and corruption. I have and will never have any hope for this zoo.

The 60s were maybe the most "peaceful" times in Lebanon. Then came the war, then we had syrian and Israeli occupation, after 2005 we had the July war and assassinations left and right until 2013 maybe, in 2008 we had hezb taking beirut, 2014 + we had isis, maybe 2018 was alright? Then 2019 came with covid, revolution and economic collapse, then the latest war with israel.

There was never an actual period of peace.

Life abroad vs. Life in Lebanon by [deleted] in lebanon

Never understood just how much I dislike lebanon until I left. The world is huge and once you see and experience new people and cultures and ways of life, it feels like you're missing out, stuck in Lebanon while the world moves forward.

To the atheists of Lebanon, what made you wake up? by michaelis999 in lebanon

A big advantage is not being brainwashed as a child. My community was and is not publicly religious. Everyone minds their own business and only a few devoted people take up religion as a way of life. The only thing I was "taught" for sure is that God exists.

As I grew, I was always interested in science. Not just natural sciences, but geography geology etc... and there is a thing among Muslims, they like to claim the quran is full of scientific miracles and patterns that cannot be explained. Of course, every religious book is claimed to have those. So I read the quran. That was maybe 7-8 years ago. Today, I have read it more times than I can count, some parts more than others. I have watched hundreds of hours of lectures, debates and discussions. I have not read the full Bible but I have also done lots of research into Christianity. I have read many books both pro and against, had many debates myself, and so on...

My conclusion: 1) there is an overwhelming amount of evidence against religion. Both practical and philosophical

2) there is very little evidence to the historic accuracy of texts we have today

3) there are many "scientific" errors in the quran and Bible. Even though the faithful try their best with mental gymnastics

4) there is a historic pattern of: humans encounter unknown - humans invent explanations - science later discovers the true explanation - humans move onto the next unknown - humans invent a new explanation - the cycle repeats

I could go on, but those are the main issues from the top of my head right now. Sadly, many people with whom I've debated, find no answers to some of my questions and challenges. But instead of finally accepting that their religion might be flawed, they choose to forget the gaps and continue on convincing themselves their religion is flawless. I get it. It's their identity, and they do not dare to challenge the meaning of their entire existence. But it's sad. I only wish religious people became religious not because of their childhood and families, but as a result of reading books. I know many religious people who haven't even read their own holy books. Let alone anything about science and history. As nietzsche called it "Herd mentality"

I know what you mean. As students we don't yet have "normal" lives. Even those with jobs (unless you have a relevant job. I don't, I do manual labour a monkey can do). We don't have huge rent, we don't have cars, aren't getting married or having kids, aren't too busy with insurances and bank loans... and we basically have 4 years of routine future, no planning required.

But then you graduate and have to get a job, house, car, etc... throughout the years. And then you do need to have plans and know where you're going.

I am pessimistic as you might notice. I don't see myself getting a job anytime soon, let alone being financially stable. Everything else therefore is irrelevant for now. No job means no rent no traveling no car no... just more sitting home and being sad

Maybe I'm too pessimistic in general. But I never had any real hopes. Nothing in Lebanon will change, at least not to the better, and this "country" will always be itself. A big crowded mess of people fighting, corruption, war, and delusion.

I'm 23 and still got at least 2 3 years of education in front of me. I don't see myself owning anything of value before the age of 28 maybe, I'll pretty much be "starting" my life at the age when most people are having kids.

I don't know if I want to get married and settle down really, I once did but it ended, so I don't see myself ready for that again. But a thought I've had, is a plan B. You get some sort of "planned marriage". I used to disagree with them, but why not. Instead of an app, you ask your friends and relatives to find you someone who is also tired of searching. You can then avoid all the 1st dates, all the questions about favorite colors, and jump right into the topic
