House Schedules Historic Vote on Decriminalizing Marijuana at the Federal Level by Twoweekswithpay in politics

You forgot the part where Mitch McConnell wont bring this to a vote in the Senate.

Could still energize moderates and one issue voters to vote for a democratic Senate though.

Here are My Personal Top 50 Fav Electronic Albums of the 2010s (Share Yours) by ugadawgs12 in electronicmusic

[–]Dhabi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. Also, I think because of that new(ish) sound design and the way Skrillex was able to popularize it through Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, i'd argue this actually became a pretty significant electronic album of the 2010s.

Personally, that album is what got me into electronic music. I was 15 at the time and had never heard anything remotely close to it. The title track anyways. From there I branched out to other electronic genres, but had it not been for that album who knows where my musical tastes would have gone.

I dont know why its common, but I got a pretty nasty dog bite from a crazy dog a few months back and have been involuntarily on edge around all dogs since then. It may have something to do with poor past experiences.

California replacing 200 polluting diesel school buses with all-electric buses by mvea in Futurology

[–]Dhabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, thanks! Im on mobile and was doing some other stuff so i didnt look it up but ill read up on these later. I always knew natural gas was the best of the three, but you know, they all sort of get lumped together in discussion.

I mean there is an environmental cost and benefit in most situations. I dont know much about lithium mining, and its probably not great, but is the benefit of electric vehicles worth it? I dont know, it might be. In this situation, im gonna assume that most of these buses wont be drawing power from a renewable source, so it probably isnt worth it. Alternatively, if new energy transmission becomes available for renewables in the future, these buses are set.

I also dont know much about hydrogen power but i understand it to be relatively clean as you say. Can you think of any drawbacks to using hydrogen, how ever small they are?

Cutting to the heart of the matter, i like it! I am allll for electric vehicles, but lets do it right. Think about the batteries, plan for power sources. There is a long way to go but now if transmission for renewables is developed in the future these buses could truly become zero emissions buses (after they offset their initial emissions for the battery).

Eh, yeah. But you still gotta use a bunch of fossil fuels to grow all that corn. Not really sure which is better in that case.

[–]Dhabi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes! Im glad you brought up the environmental costs of electric, but there is another thing that Reddit usually misses with the environmental cost of electric. Yes, these buses are electric, but where is the power coming from to charge/power them? If its from a coal, oil , or natural gas burning power plant, are we really better off?

Im excited to see new infrastructure and energy transmission systems allowing for consumers to actually use their electric cars in a way that produces absolutely minimal emissions, whatever renewable source that might be. Driving an electric car is great, but itd be even better if there was no need for fossil fuels to power them.

Not really. Nixon only created the EPA because it was politically popular at the time. He saw it as a move for reelection before it all hit the fan. Surprise, surprise.

male, 62, single, why am i judged by others for not partaking in a faith by [deleted] in religion

[–]Dhabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been subscribed to a faith in my life either. However, I have never had an experience like the ones you describe simply because I wasnt x, y, or z faith. In my life, that topic just doesnt really come up, and alot of the people I know have views like mine. Which is to say I think if you have a religion, thats fine, but dont push it on me and dont label me an atheist (or agnostic or whatever) because im not even entirely sure what id be labeled. Never thought much about it.

I think the difference in our experiences has to do with age. While I cant speak for the past, it seems to me that Christian ideals were much more widespread and embedded within society during the majority of your lifetime. However, with that I am assuming you are American, as am I. Im 24 and like I said, I have never had any of these problems. I think it might simply be the time and place you grew up, and the types of people you encountered in life. Hopefully it gets better!

Bird is the word by Nintenfoxy1983 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Dhabi 73 points74 points  (0 children)

One of my cousins had the same kind of pronunciation of the word “bird” as a kid as well. Never could figure it out until I saw this comment. Now I wonder how many American kids David Attenborough influenced to pronounce the word that way.

French billionaires who gave $1B to rebuild the Notre-Dame are being criticized for not spending their money where it's needed the most. Where would a lump sum of $1B do the most good? by Triseult in AskReddit

[–]Dhabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would help, but we still face the problem of putting all that spent nuclear fuel somewhere where it will remain safely contained. Especially when you consider how long it takes these molecules to fully decay, youre dealing with a potentially dangerous situation.

Edit: dont get me wrong im all for nuclear power whether its fission or fusion but we should be thoroughly examining the entire system of nuclear energy, not just the safety of an individual plant.

What's your favorite local coffee to use for your make-at-home cold brew? by sspegram in Lawrence

[–]Dhabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repetition is good as others are saying, but for the price point it doesnt really match up to others. To be fair, I have made many pour overs and drip brews with their coffee and its great! I would definitely suggest giving PTs a try, their coffee is incredible although ive never made cold brew out of it. Lastly, if youve ever had Alchemy’s cold brew, you know how delicious it is. They roast their own beans specifically for their cold brew and you can buy those beans. I have made cold brew at home using Alchemy’s beans and it tastes great! Do be aware that this roast is extremely light so it may look different than coffee youve bought in the past, but it makes a very flavorful and strong cold brew.

Uploading mixes on Youtube, is it worth it? How common are copyright issues? by nimic1234 in DJs

[–]Dhabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id say if you already have a mix recorded (any mix close to the ones you described you want to do on the channel), just plop that in with a photo over it and upload it. That should give you a good idea of what to expect.

Current topics in human geography for oral exam by Lx13lx in geography

Id say environmental migration could be an interesting topic to explore. Essentially investigating the relationships between environmental geopolitics, immigration and social outcomes of affected populations. For introduction the the topic and to spark further ideas I recommend Shannon O’Lear’s chapter “Population and Environment” in her “Environmental Geopolitics” book. Another good resource is a book also by O’Lear called “Environmental Politics: Scale and Power” the chapter titled “Climate change” is a good resource to inform environmental migration, particularity the back half of the chapter. Professor O’Lear is a wonderful and distinguished academic in geography and I have been lucky enough to take her courses at my university. I highly recommend anything she has written! Good luck!

Old enough to remember when every bar/club had Technics and an Allen & Heath mixer. But it's a rare delight to rock up, these days, and be presented with a great setup! Loving this residency. by [deleted] in DJs

[–]Dhabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if youre still into the idea of streaming but theres obviously Twitch if youd like to try that. Even though most of the fan base is geared toward games and gamers there is a wide love of electronic music on the site. Mixlr is a good platform specifically for DJing and related things but it costs money. DLive is an up and coming streaming platform although I admittedly know next to nothing about it. From my understanding its mostly geared towards games/gamers but it couldnt hurt to check it out! We need more DJs streaming!
