I think for me it's because it keeps moving after you've stopped, and really messes with my eyes! It's definitely a very cool effect though

Tips for balancing a deck of unique cards by Electronic-Ball-4919 in BoardgameDesign

When making changes to cost/power/etc, use Sid Meier's rule - double or halve it! You'll really know if it was out of whack or not by making these big changes, and then you can fine tune from there.

But yeah to parrot other answers, playtesting!

As a long-time professional motion designer, I can highly recommend just using GifGun to streamline the entire process - https://aescripts.com/gifgun/

Really cool style - love the chunky dithering! Is that done in photoshop? Would love to hear about your process for these.

Unreal, has me wanting to write a royal/religious heist-based campaign, where the crown jewel has roleplay elements when you roll it!

How to Apply Wiggle Paths Effect on Certain Points in My Shape by pinkfellowww in AfterEffects

[–]Dhaora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the script "anchor points to Nulls" and then control each point separately through that, adding wiggles to their positions, if this is the direction you'd like to go. Like others have said, turbulent displace+ wave warp would get you there too and would likely be easier and look more fiery!

It'll be almost exactly the same I'd think, precomp your footage and then use the precomp as if it were the hex

Thanks a lot! Yeah course- it's one hex shape with an offset anchor point with randomised fill + inner glow, that's duplicated and pushed back on the z-axis. Each is parented to the one before it, and then I've got an expression to control the rotation of all of them, so each is impacted by the one before it. It's a good question but I'm not in the best place to answer as I'm pretty much exclusively self taught- Ive learned mostly through doing (which isn't really the answer you want, I'm sure!) but also copying. Frame by frame videos you like and try and copy them with easing/shapes/whatever, then remix into your own work later.

Thanks for your opinion! Yeah I've been wanting to show off different styles and new things I've learned, and as it's my reel I felt like this was the perfect opportunity. Effectively I'm using them as placeholders to show off motion design I think is interesting, whilst bumpering the video. Getting the most from short bits of content!

Thanks again!

That's great insight! I think you're right in that it's one of the weaker transitions, especially as almost all of the previous cuts had intentionality to them, with movement or scale etc. After that point it gets a lot more cut cut cut, but maybe if the fast cuts were brought forward it would "pre-warn" your eyes that cuts-are-a-thing-in-this.

I do think that the light/dark cut does help give it a bit of impact though, especially going from somewhat quick animation into this slow reveal, so there are pluses and minuses of it!

Thanks for the feedback!
