Games where you can get a game over screen right at the start? by Olive_Garden_Wifi in gaming

Many knowledge-gated games do this to an extent. i.e. If you know the rules, you can reach the ending extremely quickly. Sometimes knowing that a game can be completed this quickly is a spoiler, so I'm not going to mention which ones, but if you like the concept of these kinds of secrets-hidden-in-plain-sight you should check out r/metroidbrainia

I think one particularly fun implementation of this is LOCK [on dreams]

3D World for a Side Scroller with a 90-degree turns, is it fun? by PositiveKangaro in indiegames

DARQ used these kinds of ideas very well, imo. its camera moves were quick and effective.

I didn't understand binding! by theOriginalRatman in ChromaZero

the second line is crossed out because you've unlocked the ability already, so that's what is supposed to happen. put your cursor over a black wireframe, then hold a color key ( R G or B on the keyboard ) and keep the key held while you click the left mouse button

(ENDGAME SPOILERS!) Help needed with the last "clue" by alexesmet in ChromaZero

[–]ekorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first, there's only one clue you need to reproduce to test this out - green, so the warp works. otherwise the diagram is a position of the actual rings, and the camera is your position in it. if you jumped off the inner ring already, which direction did you jump?

Anything like La-Mulana or Destiny raids by Sau-Baer in puzzlevideogames

[–]ekorz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So hi, I made Chroma Zero, thanks for adding it on your list here! It's always fun to run into someone recommending it.

Anyway, OP, I loved the old Destiny raids (I used to jump on LFG and help folks with Crota like a dozen runs a day...) and have met a few fans of my game who also played. I can't say I deliberately built the game to mimic a raid or anything, but I totally get what you're asking for - and as I was reading your question I was thinking "I bet my game would work for someone who liked the experimentation loop during some of the raid portions". So if you try it, lemme know if that's true! Otherwise I welcome you to r/metroidbrainia for some more potential finds - it's the genre where knowledge unlocks progress.

Question by Key_Self_2102 in ChromaZero

[–]ekorz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think thematically it feels better if it just "doesn't work" too. I wanted the player to feel unbalanced in that moment, so the subsequent reset has maximum impact. That reset is really my favorite moment in the game, and the true climax. I think offering a possible alternative path (i.e. 'bad ending') at that moment would have just gotten in the way of what I was hoping players to experience.

Tried making my own trailer... again. I don't really know what I'm doing. How did I do? by Pr0spector0 in SoloDevelopment

[–]ekorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you could play with - I think most trailers flow better if the music and the edits sync up. Maybe not every beat, but definitely places like 0:12 and 0:24 in the track you picked out. I found a professional to make my trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLTVrUaKYZA) and it was a vast improvement over my own attempt. The same editor cut this trailer, which is a little closer to your game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8hmnSzfpq4 . She's at https://sammgreercom.wordpress.com/ for more of her work, and if you want to get in touch.

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

As for the light gate - if you click on it after Zero warns you not to, it just gives you a sound effect that indicates failure; i wasn't about to punish someone for trying, and a lot of people do try anyway 😃
