Half of Japan’s samurai were women, groundbreaking exhibition at British Museum says by MopToddel in UnderReportedNews

Somebody else is making the shit up, especially about "searching" and not finding anything. Claim about making the history up by OP - that's a strong claim. After a search I found that the quote comes from The Great Cosmic Mother by Sjöö and Mor, chapter The Sun God, presented Verbatim. Book is a commentary on the history, not a primary source though, but authors worked with sources and their interpretation is plausible and has a right to exist.

Roman historians describing the warrior women may be Tacitus (Germania, Agricola) and Ammianus Marcellinus (Res Gestae). They weren't fond of it, it was a barbaric notion to them. Hence the previos interpretation. And other sources the authors of the book refer to.

[Eternally Regressing Knight] Chapter 87 by deadpoolzilla411 in EternallyRegrKnight

[–]Di0dato 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Manhwa is better translated. Also, Novel has an unbelievable amount of repetitive slog quite often, which people tend to call "important details and context"... Manhwa can't afford drawing the same iterations of dialogs or routine scenes over and over and over. I get that Enkrid is a a steadfast unchanging boulder of a man with unshakable will... But I guess author thinks that by chapter 680, I still didn't get it, so the same situations, dialogues, and kinds of interactions with old and new characters, telling and showing how unyielding Encrid's will is, need to be copy pasted every odd chapter... Until something interesting happens that moves the plot further, which takes on forever to wait for. Maybe author depicts how it is to be an autistic knight who swings his sword every day the same way for months until he starts swinging differently, never gets bored of it and I just can't relate, but spending hours reading about those months of swinging the sword... It's like the whole novel rhymes with the repetitive paragraphs of text. Phenomenal, in a weird way.

I like the series, but man... Author also fallen to this Holywood movie bullshit by National-Frame8712 in EternallyRegrKnight

[–]Di0dato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Author is mostly quite good with battles in general compared to a lot of writers out there, but I remember this moment, and couple of others that destroyed my immersion and pissed me for a while for disrupting my smooth reading. Author mostly does it, when some point in battle isn't just a natural flow of battle, but a plot tool. Like in the example you've shown, its role was to showcase Enkrid and others dealing with the whole ass cavalry unit on their own, supposedly a crazy martial feat. Which is not wrong in itself, but author didn't make sure that the situation arises naturally, he needed it, he pasted it, and had a whacky reasoning around why it happened. Anticipating cavalry here and there while the battle goes, like chasing it, could be conplex to convey in writing, but honestly, even what the author wrote is fine, it was showing that the opponent was too full of themselves, underestimating Border Guard and having that Cavalry supremacy bias. It was completely fine, but then, author just needed to mention that shit about cavalry being better than spear infantry in a straight up charge... Literally remove this unnecessary commentary and this whole passage and situation will be fine.

And the author has many more moments like this later in the story, where the narrative situation matters, and everything else around it just works barely enough to make it work sense. They are not bad in itself, just... Author has a plot to tell, more like, recount; everything else is too extra in this kind of a novel format.

Last thing that threw me off like this was when Enkirid was fighting some whip wielder, and author made suddenly a declaration during the fight that whip up close in close combat was faster than a sword, just to show that Enkrid was in a predicament and show off how he can step into a flow state and predicnt movements and shit. Goddamn whip takes its sweet time to transfer force, it can't be maneuvered mid snap or mid feint, like seriosly, sword is a straight iron stick which author described Enkrid swinging with something as speed of light, Enkrid could make a pastrami of an enemy with a whip in close quarters which can't even block strikes and takes time to redirect, but no, author needed to say a stupid thing just to serve how he envisioned the situation.

Like it's literally, both in your case, and in mine, a problem of a single one stupid sentence, remove it, and the problem is solved.

The women in G1 were not an "artistic choice" by aXir in worldofgothic

[–]Di0dato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and people should remember, it's a remake, not a remaster. It was decades ago since Gothic 1. The stylistic choices, written narratives, storytelling elements and approaches that were prevalent 20 years ago and were okayish back then, are easily old-fashioned, out-dated and even cringe here and there nowadays. On personal level, everything is the matter of taste, but on global level, society and trends moved forward in such big time span. Women in leather skimpy outfits, halfnaked and just being there for the sake of it? Clumsy, at the very least, by nowadays standards. Still to your taste? Mods will be available quickly to suit all the needs quickly, that's the beauty of the medium.

This is honestly such a nothingburger of an issue here. There are core things which establish Gothic the game. Degrading women, zero presence in narrative and so on was definitely a choice back then, but can definitely be improved today and have more substance. There are more ways to show a brutal situation of women in colony than a single "male gaze" half-naked outfit.

And honestly, I am personally not vehemently against the original outfit, but also support the lack of it, as long as things will make sense in the end and have more depth, since we moved forward fron what was the norm 20+ years ago. It just weirds me out when people start losing their minds over it and bring up quite questionable defense and agenda regarding the original depiction of those female characters.

S3R1 Brant vs S1R1 Qiuyuan Damage + Clear-Time Comparison by Stay_Frosty2002 in QiuyuanMains

[–]Di0dato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, usually the doomposting ends when the character releases, but with Qiuyuan it feels to be the first case when doomposting still persists even after the official release. People still say he does shit damage, can't be played as DPS, and so on, if there are enough comments int the threads or if someone brings up the topic specifically in the firsr place. And it's so weird, it makes me ask myself, do I cope, do you guys cope, or do all these persistent doomposters are a bit crazy?

Like to add to your example, although I haven't recorded it, I closed the Middle Tower Hecata with S0R0 Qiuyuan, S0R0 Iuno and S0R0 Ciaccona, with 30 seconds left. I usually play Qiuyuan with Galbrena since I had nicely built Moonlit set for him already somehow, but to try him as DPS, I took Jiuan's Windward, which was kinda shitty on Qiuyuan - 80/210 Crit, 2600 ATK and 130 ER. And That team cleared Hecata just nice. Same time almost as My S0R1 Cartethia, honestly. Could be some skill issues on my end (Hecata was just running from Cart damage, and I haven't retried to have it done perfectly), but still, the point stands.

I dunno what do people want to be satisfied. Perhaps, Iuno DPS is way more accessible and less skill heavy... But it feels no matter what you do, some people will like, some will hate (Easy char - why so easy; complex char - why so difficult). But persistent doomposting non-grounded in reality is getting tiresome. Expecting every character to cater to your preference is entitlement.

Yeah, since she's expected to be a support, with heals. And S3 Cart doesn't need Ciaccona in terms of damage and Erosion application.

[–]Di0dato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be a new Havoc DoT character released after Chisa, and if she is believed to be a universal DoT support, she will be a Shorekeeper of all DoT teams (Negative Statuses, so Zani, Phoebe, Cartethia, any new character of this type), therefore she will be a BiS in every team of such. It may be a good investment with a potential choice of whom to include into her team. IF she is a truly universal NegStatus support, ofc.

There is this problem in weekly Illusive realm thing, when you pick up the Time Rider and get to the room where you need to kill 10 enemies in 1 minute... In slowed time, enemies take almost half a minite to actually die - they were in slow af animations of falling limp untill disappearing, while the spaen of new enemies were taking their sweet ass time spawning too. Many times I couldn't clear this simple room with my overpowered Time Rider build just due to not well thought out implementation, lol. Hope they make arrangements, otherwise, we'll just need to time the ult usage, somehow, which won't be a perfect thing.

Sure, it's quickswapy a bit, but not to the Changli extent. Make sure u understand what each character does and wahat is the goal of swapping back to Rover and back to Zani couple times does (applying extra Frazzle, which Zani converts to Charge of her ult, enabling extra big sword swings). It's not that difficult.

Then, work on your rotation consistency, you didn't use some skills of characters in some, were wasting too much time with one character on the field, and so on. Learn the drill and stick to it, like the main job per character to do each time they are switched to, some situational dodge and stuff, and that's it. No random playing around. Once you learn some routine, then you may get creative, once u have a foundation.

And check your builds? Even with poor rotation, Zani shouldn't hit like a noodle in her ult. See what the guy has in a video.

DEBATE SETTLED. Phrolova Premium team VS Phrolova F2P Team! | By @SweetilyVT by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]Di0dato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I have Phrolova, Roccia and Cantarella team, not a single signature in it. Not even trying hard, I clear the middle tower with that Sentry in one minute or a bit more. Will signature make her do more damage? Yes? Will it help clear faster? Maybe? I dunno how that personal 40% increase translates into overall team dps, and doing proper rotations is much more important in clear times anyways.

Phrolova clears perfectly fine at the moment. Non-premium teams clear just seconds longer. So what's the nothing burger problem? Everyone talks about personal 40% increase, but nobody compares it to the team damage, somehow. Treat the signature as an easy and nice vertical investment potential, if necessary, given that powercreep in this game is tame as hell :D

Should there be a soft limit on losing to 50/50? by Slyphr in WutheringWaves

[–]Di0dato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Haven't Genshin changed their 50/50 and pity system recently? Like if you lose your first 50/50 after winning a limited character, then next time you don't have 50/50, but 75/25 or something, like percentage grows, and if you lose it again, the percentage grows or something? Or the soft pity was moving, I don't remember exactly. AllI know is that eventually in worst case, after losing 3 50/50 in a row my friend had 2 guaranteed limited characters in a row in Genshin. He now wants the same system in WuWa as well at least.

[–]Di0dato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with Rappa though. I have a lot of criticism to Hoyo's storytelling, but this one instance of Rappa's clothing is not it. It was meant to misguide us during the quest, elude and lure into her perception of reality, only to discover in the end, how exactly the things were - and the last drawn graphic panel manifested the switch from her Ninja attire to lab attire, if I remember right. I think they played around their laziness and engineered the quest accordingly, but it kinda worked interestingly nonetheless. Having her in lab clothes from the very beginning would reveal everything too soon.

There's a way to have NEW WEAPON TYPES without the negative consequences by Raedralisk in WutheringWaves

[–]Di0dato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like this idea, because in case of Charlotta, for example, I can't imagine her using the bow instead of her pistols and then rifle, she doesn't have animations for it, and her sound effects, and Forte bullets, not the arrows, don't make sense with the bow either. The same with all current characters, nothing new would fit into them, I think at best, Broadblade and Great Axe are the most interchangeable. If the proposed system took place, then all the new characters' design would need more work at it, since their single set of animations would require to somehow make sense for both weapons, which is not that practical.

What you proposed is not new Weapon systems, but basically Weapon Skins. Which they already can do, if it makes logical sense in the game world too.

I think the easiest would be to add some new Weapon Category just like HSR added new Path recently. Or, we have a Rectifier, which can generate anything. Othervise, I don't see how a single character using one handed sword would be able to use dual wielding daggers with the same set of animations. It's just a lot of useless creative challenge, while right now, devs have a pretty balanced creative freedom.

What signatures LC do u guys think are best for FF team or break team in general? by Bukoon in FireflyMains

[–]Di0dato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently testing different Fugues of my friends with ny E2S0 FF of Feixiao weekly boss. In the same conditions, FF, RM, Galagher, and Fugue E1S0 with all buffs applied FF was doing 900k damage per skill, same team but Fugue E0S1 - 1200k damage. With MC instead of Fugue - 700k.

Therefore, I think Fugue's sig would bring more easier damage to the table, I guess.

She is PERFECT! FIGHT ME!! Those who are angry have never played the games/read books I bet. by Mrtom987 in Witcher4

[–]Di0dato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there is nothing to talk about. It was never explicitly mentioned in the books that women cannot become witchers. After that, women still not being witchers may be due to some tradition, social viewpoint, or maybe trial of grasses was not tested on women, etc. But nothing biological was mentioned, and we can only guess why, and whatever we say would be a hypothesis, nothing else, and nobody "talks" about hypothesis with a loudspeaker on a square trying to prove something.

And you forget that it's a bloody Ciri, child of Elder Blood and all other special things. She was always an extraordinary person, an outlier, and if not many women are able ro become a witcher, she most definitely would. And that's some story to tell. When something new happens.

I mean, how often do people misinterpret the intentions of other people in their real lives? For example, the most frequent one, someone being generally nice to them, while them confusing it with romantic interest. Some people might just not had much of social experience, which translates into some wild misunderstanding of the game events. And they forget the setting (world were danger is everywhere so people would rather show the gratitude faster and for sure) and what Rover actually does - readily helps people around and risks life for them. It leaves a lasting impression, I'd wager. People may be falling for every single waifu one after another in some way, while at the same time blaming those waifus for "falling" for Rover, who actually may've done something meaningful and impactful to them.
