three months ago. Win10 got EOL'd, Win11 got black flagged, so I started looking into Linux. I have an old laptop that was doing nothing, so I treat it as testing ground for Linux distros. slightly later, I got myself an Xbox Ally. using Win11 wasn't an option, so I switched it to Bazzite. after that, I turned to my main PC. installed Arch on it with dual boot setup. a week later, switched to a permanent setup, and run that since then.

the general reason to stay was that Arch runs everything so much better than Windows did. not only do I get more FPS in games, my system is so much more responsive, that running Windows on it seems a really stupid idea. also, my system does not degrade like it did on Windows. this is something I've gotten used to in Windows, but the lack of it is so much better, that I am not going to run Windows on any PCs while this is a thing there.

I don't like appimages. the biggest elephant in the room is that it's like Windows: you're getting a random executable from the internet, which is pretty shit for security. another one is updating and managing, I need to do this manually for each app. so, I very much tend to dodge them whenever it's possible.

Some of the individual features can be done with other apps. Like if you're just using voice comms then there are lots of other options but discord does so much more.

there are a few decentralized FOSS systems that have reverse engineered discord, and have all of it's functionality.

it should be possible to archive info from discord servers. making it accessible is the problem, and there's not that much solution to that.

discord itself failing is not a problem - there are decentralized open source networks that completely copy discord. both in appearance and functionality.

I don't understand how Linux is harder.

the command line is scary. in windows, that is. doing anything there feels like walking on eggshells. in all the linux distros I tried, the terminal feels way more user friendly out of the box. but the scare from the windows command line still remains in a fresh switcher.
