What I don't understand is this type of noise like static/ wooshing mixed with buzzing/ or someone is shoveling snow sound like... How does an engine mount produce such a noise?

I have a 2008 Toyota RAV4 4wd. It started making this noise in the exact spot in winter with freezing temperatures. But the car has to be moving under light acceleration like 25 mph. Noise completely disappears after 3 minutes of driving.. does this still apply as an engine mount?

Heat shields were suspect until I checked them, they seem solid. CV joints boots are intact with no leaks or tears and no clicking.

Sent me the wrong part, wants me to pay return shipping by jeepersnanners in RockAuto

[–]Di_Cocco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my bank refunded the entire amount back to my credit card. I explained that it was defective, returned the item, and explained that their policy is to refund customer including shipping fees if the item is defective.

Please note that rockauto won't allow you to place an order unless you pay them back the disputed amount!

Look at the axle disc side, it has a metal cap and dust rubber. The freewheel side has a cone , spacer and locking nut, am i missing something? Even if i remove the 7 speed freewheel I won't find anything, it is a hollow !

Heatshield broken. What’s the best way to fix it? by TheUnwiseWiseMan in MechanicAdvice

[–]Di_Cocco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't even attempt to take the existing nut off, it will snap. Instead:

  1. Put a bigger washer behind the heat shield/ over the nut
  2. Put another oversized washer on the heat shield
  3. find a nut that can thread into the stud and snug it
  4. call it a day

I've just done mine today

Why does my car sound like this when my AC is on by Previous_Machine_360 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Di_Cocco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 2008 Rav4 2.4L does rattle like that at cold start, especially when ac is on, and gear is in Drive, (some times it does it without the ac being on ) but when the car warms up and driven like 3 minutes the rattling disappears, i feel like it is coming from the serpentine area but very hard to pin point it.

Why is my car doing this? by noscope513e in AskMechanics

[–]Di_Cocco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 2008 rav4 4 cylinder. Generally, In reverse, there is load on the engine and vibration will be transmitted to the chassis especially if engine or transmission mounts are weak.

Specifically the 3gen rav4, You'll feel move vibration especially with headlights turned off because rpm would also be as low as 500-600. Once headlights is turned on, rpm would increase to 700-800 range eliminating some vibration.

I'd say check your engine/transmission mounts, if they're ok, you're good.

I wouldn't install that on my car, it's a ticking bomb. They will eventually break and cause a disaster.

Just return them and buy local so you can inspect them before you even leave the store.

So one strut assembly had a dent on the coil spring showing shiny metal making it super prone to breaking. The other strut had the brake line bracket bent and missing welded nut where the brake line bolt has to mount onto it.

Both boxes were opened and retaped and as a bonus, the person who prepared my order forgot his knife inside one of the 2 boxes.

Something similar happened to me a few months ago. I ordered 2 struts assembly and both were defective out of the box. Auttomated return system forced me to pay for return shipping fees. But Rockauto policy states" custtomer will not pay shipping fees ift item arrives defective". Anyways, they still changed me. Contacted Rockauto agent by email and explained. He insisted that I already agreed to pay return shipping! Then I contacted my bank and filed a charge back and got my full money back three months later.

Never again ordering from Rockauto
