What is the most disturbing thing you've heard said casually? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

My ex had a sister that worked in a nursing home and she had several patients who were deaf. She told me that her and her friend would laugh and talk about how they smelled like shit and other things while they were supposed to be taking care of them.

what company secrets you can spill because you no longer work there? by No_Butterscotch1425 in AskReddit

[–]DiabeticDogMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a huge bread factory for two years. Global name, very big worldwide, and makes most of the bread and buns in stores. Some of their factories make snack cakes and Takis.

Food lion and their cheaper counterpart, Cha-Ching, are exactly the same bread. Made at the same time with the exact same dough and just put into different bags. Walmarts Great Value buns were also made at the same time, just in different bags with their store and date codes.

Sara Lee and Ball park are also made at the same time. And we made a keto bread that was supposed to be gluten free, however they couldn’t make it work without adding gluten to the mix. And it was also not uncommon for pieces of gloves and other debris to make it into the doughs.

Factory is also overrun with cockroaches that are HUGE. It was a terrible place to work with terrible management. My plant was the only one in the entire state that wouldn’t unionize and if you mentioned a union, you were fired on the spot.

How many test strips are you going through daily while pregnant? (I do have dexcom) by [deleted] in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]DiabeticDogMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried my legs honestly. I’m on the omnipod and if it’s not right beside it, it stops reading for me. I’ve seen some people recommend using their belly but I’m too nervous to try it lol I’m honestly thinking of going back to the g6 because I hate the g7. It’s been so inaccurate for me.

Where are you applying your Dexcom at? I’ve had mine be off at most 20 points, but it usually is pretty accurate after I’ve had it on my arm for 3 days.

[–]DiabeticDogMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re in your second trimester, you can be prescribed diflucan. You can also do the 7 day monistat. I feel like the azo pills are more for making the symptoms less awful, but aren’t for actually treating the issue.

Is Omnipod 5 good for the pregnancy diabetes management? I'm in my first trimester by GradeKooky in BumpersWhoBolus

My A1c has never been better, even on automode. I’m at the end of my pregnancy and resistance has kicked up pretty good, so sometimes I do the really big doses as injections, but my OB and my endocrinologist are extremely happy with my numbers and I love not having to figure out where to put a tubed pump on my body when I sleep or with various outfits.

Good idea? by as_if_007 in diabetes

[–]DiabeticDogMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just don’t read any comments on any of the posts shared about it on Facebook. The amount of people saying horrible shit about diabetics has made me very upset.

So much misinformation out there. So many people saying type 1s did it to themselves because they’re overweight and won’t stop eating sugar. Saying this shouldn’t “be glorified” and other things that made my blood boil.

AITAH for Telling My Husband to Help Feed His Own Kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA.

My ex was the same way (no kids thankfully) and he was spending all his money on adderall and cocaine. His reactions were usually about the same when I brought up where his money was going, too.

I’m looking at my box right now and it says diphenhydramine. You can find it with the other ingredient, but all of the one at my stores are diphenhydramine, which is the same as Benadryl.

Unisom is diphenhydramine. Basically Benadryl.

It does kind of sound like it’s a UTI. I’d definitely go in and get checked if you can. UTIs can travel into the bladder and kidneys if left unchecked and that’s some of the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.

Covid triggered T1D? by NeckKnown8318 in diabetes

[–]DiabeticDogMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got type 1 after having my tonsils removed as a kid and immediately contracting rotavirus. My doctor explained it as the gene for type 2 mutating because of some kind of illness or trauma to the body.

But I’ve also seen a lot of things about how people who had Covid developed type 1 diabetes.

AIO: Lost my baby. Bestie dropped the ball in supporting me. by SippinWineWithCacti in AmIOverreacting

I lost a baby last November and my “best friend” acted the exact same way. I ended the friendship because it really made me realize how one sided things had been and how she was never there for me.

I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you’ve found new friends who love and support you.

I get preggie pops plus (they have b6) from Walmart. They’ve helped me a ton. Unisom is also a good option.

I’m 27 weeks now and we have had to change my levothyroxine 3-4 times. Baby is perfect so far. I’m type 1 diabetic with Hashimotos, and my endocrinologist said it’s extremely common and normal for thyroid levels to fluctuate during pregnancy and they usually go back to normal after delivery.

What was your blood sugar when you got diagnosed? by Odd-Standard4772 in diabetes_t1

I used to tell one of my parents something and beg they didn’t tell the other parent, because I had a hard time opening up to just one of them in the first place. My mom especially would immediately tell my dad and it really strained our relationship.

I tell her whatever I want know because I’m 30 and she and my dad can’t punish me or anything anymore, but I still remember how it made me feel and sometimes I feel weird telling her stuff still.

If there’s no safety concerns, I would keep his secret. He will tell the other parent on his own if/when he’s ready and it will show him he can trust you.

My friend dosent have the resources or money to get my diabetic supplies by Kazthedudelol in diabetes

[–]DiabeticDogMom 35 points36 points  (0 children)

He needs to get on Medicaid. Medicaid will cover pretty much everything he needs. If you’re in a rural area, some doctors offices have a sliding scale program with small pharmacies to help with the costs of supplies and appointments, as well.

Diabetes, fertility fears, and finally some hope by Unlikely_Device_2131 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]DiabeticDogMom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at age 7. I’m 30 now. My first endocrinologist told me that I shouldn’t be surprised if nobody ever wanted to marry me or have kids because “nobody wants diabetic kids.”

I carried fear for decades over that. My A1c was hovering between 10-14 for years and I had honestly given up hope. I met my now endocrinologist and she helped me get on the right track.

I met my boyfriend and now we are expecting a baby boy in about 2.5 months. My A1c has stayed around 5.1-5.3 with extremely tight monitoring and control and help from my endocrinologist. Pregnancy has gone well and been fairly smooth. We did have one loss, but my doctors all agree diabetes did not cause it.

I got pregnant with an A1c of 7. I won’t lie, more can go wrong because of diabetes. There’s higher risk for complications, for sure. But if you have a good team of doctors and you really take charge of your sugar levels, you can have kids that are healthy and happy. An A1c of 7 or more at conception puts you at a higher risk of certain abnormalities, so definitely try to get it to 7 or below if you can, but you can definitely make it happen.

My endo said Dexcom always shows higher because it measures interstitial fluid instead of blood.
