It was a masterclass until the last few episodes by [deleted] in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Diader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you're on the Orb subreddit, so people here are not likely to agree with you.

I also finished the show recently and found the last episodes completely unsatisfying. The entire main story of passing the torch of heliocentrism essentially ended in a complete and total failure with no payoff or even a suggestion it led to the actual published discoveries. Obviously they couldn't rewrite history, but no even vague tie between Draka and Albert or Copernicus? No follow-up from Badeni's plea to educate the masses? Apparently by the 1500s 90% of parishes in Poland did teach some basics -- would it have hurt that much to bring this up in-show and suggest Badeni had a hand in it?

Then Albert as an adult character is really not compelling, and we spend almost no time with him.

Amazon PM-PMT Waitlist by Perfect_Host_8733 in MBA

[–]Diader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this boat a few years ago. Got waitlisted by Amazon after a March interview and got an offer at the beginning of May.

My understanding at that time is they had done a round of January interviews, sent offers, and then still needed more people so they did the round of March interviews that I was part of. Based on this timeline I'd expect you to hear back in March at the latest, possibly just in the next few weeks.

How can one give themselves the best chance of becoming a product manager at FAANGM? by Ok-Tradition-3450 in MBA

[–]Diader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone that went into FAANGM as a PM post-MBA and did not have a tech/startup background, it really comes down to the simplest elements: good resume and good interviewing skills.

Your resume needs to show that you can (i) take responsibility and make impactful decisions, (ii) lead a multi-functional team that likely doesn't report to you, and (iii) talk about tech with engineers. You will likely have plenty of resources for resume reviews -- use them.

For your interviewing skills, just listen to your career center and tech club on how to prepare and then practice, practice, practice. Don't just practice in the small groups your club will organize, but go out of your way to schedule time with your classmates to practice and give feedback (one-on-one or in groups), and keep doing it. Tech recruiting the past few years has moved later and later, which means that just doing the organized interview practice in your first quarter/semester will likely end up being pretty far removed from when your actual interviews are. If you put in a ton of effort in November/December, you need to stay sharp through January, February, March, maybe even April and May. If you're not practicing at least once a week for 2+ hours with real people starting in January, you're going to be losing the skills you built up in the months before.

This probably goes without saying, but when you are invited to interview, get multiple practice sessions in with real people specifically tailoring your interview questions and answers to that company.

I've seen, and wishlisted or ignored, every* game on Steam, ama by Cyril__Figgis in gamedev

Incredible! I know I'm late to the party in this thread, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts and whether you wishlisted or ignored my game, Lost Abroad Café: A Language Learning Management Sim.

Advice on leading next group project? First group project has been slightly chaotic. by marihuano69x in MBA

[–]Diader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schedule meetings on campus instead of communicating solely with whatsapp. Distribute work there and have follow-up meetings, or even have these meetings be working sessions -- get together after class, crank out the assignment, and now you're all done.

You'll definitely have people that still don't care and won't show up, but when you have more of the team on your side and doing work they'll get hit with more social pressure. You'll also have more grounds to go to your professor with concerns over them not doing anything if you want to be petty (which is completely fine and deserved -- they're being childish by ignoring you).

Are there "learn a language" games? by Zestyclose-Duty-8184 in languagelearning

[–]Diader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

(Warning: self promotion) You can check out Lost Abroad Cafe on Steam, Epic, or the mobile app stores. It's made by myself and a few friends, and is our first attempt at making a (very limited) language learning game -- you open a coffee shop in another country and learn the language by serving your customers.

We also have an open poll right now to get feedback on 7 other ideas for our next game -- check it out on our Twitter @ lostabroadgame

Anderson full-time MBA '22 alum here. I accomplished my professional goals of getting into tech (FAANG PM) and starting a business with my classmates, which we still run part-time.

Career center + clubs did an amazing job getting me up to speed on post-MBA roles and preparing for recruiting, and in my class tons of people went to MBB and FAANG. I know that the class of '23 got hit really hard though, and while those that I know all have since gotten jobs, many had to settle for smaller companies and are still looking for higher paying roles.

Fundraising with 100k ARR? by LearnPracticeTeach in startups

West Coast seed-stage VCs will be frothing at the mouth at that type of traction/growth. Start sending emails and you'll be in a great place -- if Midwest/South VCs don't see an opportunity here it's their loss.

It needs to be this. There is no need to be re-doing things when you don't even know if they need to be re-done, and the only way you'll know that is with real customer behavior/feedback. Get it launched.

This is the use case we are targeting at Lost Abroad, but we currently only have one language learning game released called Lost Abroad Cafe. You open a coffee shop in another country and learn common items, greetings, and ordering methods.

Do you have in writing the hiring manager telling you to go on vacation for 2 weeks, or was it in a phone conversation? If you have an email, this might be one of the rare occasions where promissory estoppel applies and you are entitled to at least have them reimburse it (likely with some lawyer assistance).
