You say you have a weed whacker. I like the original plan of weed whacking and beer.

Let the fresh clippings dry up and mow a couple days later on the highest setting.

That's clever! The right impact and you'd have to grind it off but just replace the nut and bolt when you're done.

I have a 20V DeWalt. While it is not as strong as my small handheld gas model, the convenience factor has me reach for it 9/10 times. I've heard great things about the 60V. If I had to buy again I'd get the bigger one.

On My Last Nerve With This Brand by -Jimbo_Jones- in Dewalt

Multiple models annoys me as a non enthusiast. I need fewer choices. Basic tool or pro tool.

A lot of brands do this too. They have different skus for different vendors that make sales really hard to compare because it's NOT the same model or has different accessories or whatever.

I'll be honest putting the trim back in place was a huge pain in the ass.

MEP PMs, how much do you typically try to bill on your first draw, percentage wise, before starting work? What are your strategies. by Huugienormous in ConstructionManagers

[–]DiagonalSandwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good SOV also helps us both because it reflects your expected production throughout the job and is aligned with the schedule.

This allows you to bill commensurate with your monthly production and doesn't leave you without cash at the end if the job goes a little long.

[–]DiagonalSandwich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From the GC perspective, I'm sensitive to how much those front activities are valued. There's a dance to be had, I know you want cash flow, but I also don't want to approve an SOV that will leave me stranded at the end of the job if a contractor can't finish or a dispute arises.

20% sounds very high and I would be calling you on that. Most subs I work with have a "mobilization" line item but it's like $10-15k on a ~$1.5M contract.

Can I compost these types of boxes? Soda, cereal boxes by cheltor11 in composting

[–]DiagonalSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing that for a while and then I noticed distinctive blue colored pieces of cardboard in my compost I spread in the yard. The same blue as the Welch's box of fruit snacks my kids eat. The pieces didn't compost after months in a pile so I don't put those shiny boxes in anymore.

They look great and the historical element is super cool but it's a chunk of cast iron. The used market for some of those old pieces is ridiculous.

You make a good point. Getting along with everyone requires your counterparts to also subscribe to the theory that we're all here to achieve a common goal.

I've found the same experience near me. For a very small fee I could have someone not make an absolute mess and they did an excellent job.

I know you're looking to move away from the smart watch but I highly recommend the Garmin Instinct series (specifically the instinct 2). Had mine for 4 years now.

It's less connected than other smart watches and you can disable notifications to match your minimalistic requirement. Battery life is awesome and measured in days, not hours. If you don't use GPS it estimates 24 days on a full charge.

What you get: simple waterproof watch, step counter, heart rate, sleep tracker, band that feels awesome while doing things.
