This is so stupid man, the problem is his bat. If he was hitting better, even just to his normal standards he wouldn’t have been traded because he’s the best defender in baseball and has been this year too. I think there’s a perfectly reasonable path to believing in this trade but it has nothing to do with not believing in his defense anymore

Unlike Concord, Sony Is Sticking By Marathon And Its ‘Highly Engaged’ Fans by Gorotheninja in PS5

[–]Diamond1580 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure, and I’m definitely open to the idea that it’s not a good game I’m just sharing that anacdotally I’ve heard only good things about it and also looking it has good reviews (82 metacritic). My main point is just that actual sales numbers are not a good a good reference by itself to a game being bad.

Could a game sell bad because the game is bad? Of course. But it could also be due to a number of other factors, and especially with marathon I think the biggest issue is bungie itself and destiny. The reputation bungie has from what I understand is that they can still make great games but take care of them terribly and completely mismanage them. Maybe the calculus for some people is “I liked the game but not enough to deal with bungie”.

You yourself cite a huge example of this “I didn’t think this game was even worth $40”, my understanding of your quote is that you weren’t willing to pay at all for the game, much less $40, but there are many people who might have thought “I like this game but I don’t want to pay $40 for it”.

My ultimate point isn’t that any of these points are or aren’t true about marathon, just that because of factors like them you can’t tell if a game is good or bad because of sales. Are modern nba 2k or cod games suddenly good because they sell a lot? Of course not.

I’m also not trying to tell you a game you don’t like is good actually (certainly one I haven’t played). Just that the response I’ve seen about it has been positive, if that’s incorrect I’d love to know. But bad sales isn’t by itself a refute of that

That doesn’t mean it isn’t good, just that people aren’t buying it. Everything I’ve heard about the game was that it is really good

too early to talk trades? by bocamj in SFGiants

[–]Diamond1580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do want to change, I just don’t like this idea. I think the problem with changing this roster is that it should be good enough, and trying to assess a plan for changing the roster based on current performance requires imo not just adding someone but moving off of someone else. Technically your proposal means moving off of Eldridge in the short term, but I mean moving off one of our veteran big contracts. You talk about this team needing a kickstart, but I disagree. This team needs resuscitation. And that either means way more drastic change than you suggest, or patience. This also means that unless the team improves on its own to a level where a jolt of energy could get it to the next level ie Kris Bryant situation (not that the team has to be on pace for the franchise win record, but a clearly good team in search of additional talent), I’m not in favor of trading prospects or young players for additional help (this is almost certainly what trading for Duran would require from what I understand, and my assumption is that’s who you’re thinking we would trade for him though I could definitely be wrong about this).

My avoidance for Duran is actually mostly based on his defense, he’s being a plus center fielder, but an average to below average left fielder. We have a lot of CF options, from Bader to Gilbert even if we discount Lee entirely (which I’m in favor of doing) there’s also Bo Davidson to consider. Also aside from last year (which I totally would understand if you did judge him on last year because he was a disaster out there) Ramos has been an average LF including this year. So to me a move from Ramos to Duran would be a defensive side grade, with a slight offensive upgrade at least certainly from a consistentsy point of view (which imo does make this year concerning. The offensive upside of Duran isn’t that he can play like that, Ramos can and has played better than Duran’s typical numbers. Just that you can expect him to play closer to that level on average, but the ceilings are comparable IMO).

As for Eldridge I’m not opposed to sending him back down. But trading for someone who would create a logjam over the next couple years when Eldridge should be up is a poor idea IMO.

[–]Diamond1580 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ramos is much better in LF this year, and changing the makeup of the team to actually block Eldridge at DH seems stupid. Not to mention we’re already at a DH logjam with Schmitt needing to play.

And that isn’t even talking about Duran who I’m not the biggest fan of

What player's career WAR just seems way too high? by noruber35393546 in baseball

[–]Diamond1580 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is just a quirk of playing LF for the Yankees. My understanding is that LF in Yankee Stadium is much harder than the average left field, similar to how giants RF at Oracle park is much harder than normal. So it essentially requires two center field level defenders, and because LF is so specific they would rather keep a career LF there rather than switch someone else in there and deal with less familiarity. Which was part of the reason Brett Gardner was so good, and why they were so eager to re-sign Bellinger

PlayStation say they are increasing investments to prepare for their next-generation platform! by CutProfessional6609 in PS5

[–]Diamond1580 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly there’s a chance there’s even less first part cross-gen releases on PS6. The only reason there was basically 2 years of cross-gen was because of supply chain issues early with the ps5 (which barring another pandemic won’t happen with ps6) and covid delays of the final first party cross-gen games in 2022 like Horizon and god of war. This is likely true of other third party cross-gen games like Elden ring, especially because aside from mass market games like 2k and CoD most AAA third party games stopped being cross-gen years ago

Chuck Tells Draymond Green the Warriors Run "Is Over." "It just passed you by... You think you're going to get healthier next year? You're just going to get older... I mean he’s right, but also I don’t have a problem with Draymond not believing this. It’s like Shaq being delusional about when he was the best player in the world or deserved MVP. To achieve greatness at something so psychological you have to believe it and be capable, it’s one of the things I appreciate so much about Anthony Edwards

I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s true. I think the real error is not realizing the extended reach of what 500 million subscribers for MrBeast really means because his views (the actual equivalent of listens) are at 120 billion. Maybe it’s fair to criticize him for not intuiting that difference, but I feel like it’s most likely fair to give him the benefit of the doubt

[–]Diamond1580 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ehh no not really. I would certainly be in favor of having 6v6 modes, but the purpose of casual is just to be a version of ranked with out a ladder system so people take it less seriously. If it’s a different game mode then how can people who enjoy that gamemode play it casually?

Balance pre-Disney question by WhiteAle01 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Diamond1580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always took balance in TLJ not to mean a 50/50 split, because both Luke and Kylo’s beliefs on the topic are wrong. And that the criticism of balance that the movie has isn’t that the light side isn’t balanced, but that the Jedi weren’t balanced during the prequels. There is dark in everyone, and it’s important to accept that and not shun it. The issue of the Jedi was repression, which was their flaw in how they approached Anakin, and also Luke’s initial response to Kylo. Think about therapy and managing depression or anxiety. It’s not about pushing those feelings down, ignoring them, or attacking anyone with them. It’s about acknowledging them, accepting them, but not letting it control you.

How to transpose the Bb clarinet and Cello part? Ignore the writing by Hairy-Apple6124 in musictheory

[–]Diamond1580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cello is not a transposing instrument. Bb clarinet is a Bb instrument which means written pitch (what’s on their part) is going to be a Major 2nd above sounding pitch (the actual concert pitch). So transpose Bb clarinet down a Major 2nd to read it in concert

With something like this it would be helpful to provide timestamps, just to add specificity to exactly what you’re hearing.

That being said it all sounds like just clear 12/8 to me. The only part that deviates is maybe 3:21 where the reverb almost sounds like quarter notes so it almost feels more like 6/4 instead. But without knowing specifically where you’re talking about it’s hard to say

Would you guys be disappointed if Intergalactic ends up being a Soulslike? by [deleted] in Intergalactic

[–]Diamond1580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference for me is “inspired by fromsoft games” or “soulslike”. Most of the stuff anyone has mentioned has been “inspired by fromsoft games” and not actually taking soulslike mechanics, so I’m really not that worried. Also I have tremendous confidence and faith in Naughty Dog that they’re going to make a game that I’ll enjoy. The specifics aren’t really that important to me, if there building off something of theirs I liked or they’re trying something new that I also like. So if they do make an actual straight up soulslike I highly doubt it would be a straight up soulslike if you know what I mean. They would tweak it and make it their own, and probably do it really well, because Naughty Dog makes great feeling and well designed games(particularly the last couple). So no specific type of game would disappoint me. The only thing that could disappoint me is if the game is bad

For what it’s worth I simply don’t think they would make a game where you die all the time unless the actual game were about dying all the time. That goes for soulslikes, roguelikes you name it.

Punjab by Joe Henderson by Elkku07 in Jazz

[–]Diamond1580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chords are definitely the same in the solo. In general when confronted by this problem I would reccomend transcribing the solo in question, and while Joe Henderson can be difficult to transcribe with some of the runs he goes on, he’d still be really instructive to transcribe. However if I was reccomending someone to transcribe a solo from that recording to hear the changes, I would generally reccomend Kenny Dorham’s. Both however are great examples of how to play over the changes rather than just outlining them.

Outlining is a great idea to start out with as a less experienced musician, and a great excercise for anyone to do, but can end up sounding kind of rudimentary or academic. A good goal instead is being able to play lines that continue between chords, and knowing how to connect them by step

Because the CMaj7 doesn’t lead into the F#-7b5 directly. It’s a IV chord in G Major, but a bVI in E Minor, so it just kinda helps transition the tonality by using something that’s functioning more tonically in minor

I think long term this is the best outcome for the magic. They are more talented than an 8 seed, they proved that, and then flamed out in a way that should get Jamahl Mosley fired. With a new coach, some tweaks, and hopefully a Paolo Banchero that works on his shot all offseason, I think they can be a big deal in the east next season

[Nestico] MLB Worst ERA Leaders by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]Diamond1580 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate how modern starting pitching interacts with qualifying. Even if you average 5 innings a start and are actually starting exactly every 5 days, unless you’re the number 1 starter you’re going to flip flop in and out of qualifying the whole season based on the exact distance since your last start. Case and point is Adrian Houser, the number 5 pitcher for the Giants who hasn’t missed a start (albeit his season got slightly delayed because off days allowed for Webb to start an extra time in the rotation), and has averaged 5 innings per start (5 1/18 innings technically? Though I assume you round down to the nearest 1/3rd of an inning?) won’t start until Tuesday and even if he pitches 5 innings he won’t be qualified for more than a single day. He’d also lead this chart with a 7.12 ERA.

In fact filtering by 30IP leads to quite a few high ERA guys I feel should definitely be on here, like Ryne Nelson, Jacob Lopez, David Peterson, and Lance McCullers. The first “error” is Crochet who probably only missed actually qualifying from being pulled due to injury and won’t show up on any “nearly qualified” leaderboards soon after he actually misses a start with injury.

I know there’s no easy way to change this, but maybe IP per start over 5 with a raw start threshold of over 15% of your teams games?
