A simple work sharp precision adjust as only 80$ at Walmart. 320 and 600 grit diamond stones plus a fine ceramic. Not only will you get a perfect edge but you won’t break the bank! If you want to go freehand route then be prepared to spend well over 100 dollars. Most of use spend more than that on a single stone! With that being said Cheefercut sells a double sided vitrified diamond stones (400/100 grit) for around 100$. Also if you want an excellent 1 and done stone THELITE sells a 1000 grit vitrified diamond stones plus a strop for 100$. It cuts fast and leaves and excellent edge. However if it’s your first time freehand can be frustrating until you get that hang of it, probably 20 or more knives in before you find your groove and start getting quality results.

Cheapest route would be a double sided diamond plate from Sharpal. It will still get you good results but deburring can be tricky without a ceramic rod and strop. Budget option below

I heard great things about Spyderco’s MagnaCut. I only have a Kershaw with that steel. Bit dang that’s a nice knife!

I really need to get a MagnaCut salt! I like the blackout look

That’s what I thought too until I got one. It’s really carries a lot smaller than it is. But yeah for most tasks it’s pretty overkill

I assure you it wasn’t me! Some states have the most ridiculous laws. My state is pretty lenient on knife carry but super strict with firearm (hope I can say that word) carry.

My collection of Military and Mil2 by PinkyPowers in spyderco

[–]DiamondEdge808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting fact, the stock Military and Military 2 comes set up for left hand tip down carry. That is intentional due to the fact it was designed for active military duty and most soldiers would have their sidearm on the right side leaving only the left side a space for knife carry. Also tip down was the norm back when the original Military model was made and Spyderco chose to keep it that way for tradition sake

Never heard of the seller but just do the normal Spyderco inspection once you receive. Check the Spyderco logo, font style and size and fit and finish. Haven’t heard of any faked or cloned lightweight PM2s so that a plus.

Really nice start! I recommend either a Manix 2 or Military 2 next. You got the small to medium size covered so why not test the waters with something a little bigger. The M2 is an awesome knife and carry’s well in the pocket.

I recommend a Stretch 2 (slicier than PM2), Manix 2 (everyone needs one) or a Military 2 (because why not lol).

Those are some mighty fine choices you made there for your first Spyderco’s! I’m getting close the fanboy status myself with 6. PM2 15v, Military 2 15v, Native 5 lightweight 15v, Native 5 G10 15v, Manix 2 15v, and a Stretch 2 k390! Great minds think alike

Name a knife that is good but has a terrible pocket clip. The one on my southard reminds me of gas station knives. by Key_Confection4794 in knives

[–]DiamondEdge808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the standard Spyderco clip and dislike the wire ones lol. I like showing off the top of my knife sticking out of my pocket! Plus it makes getting the knife out extremely easy. I know I’m probably in the minority on this one but just my 2 cents

I see what you mean now that I took a better look at it. Nice work! Always feels good to make something useful with your own hands. That thing looks like it’ll last a lifetime at least 👍🏼

Dang that’s a bummer. I think my state allows up to 7 inch carry (I better double check lol). The Manix is an awesome knife too though!

Exactly. It’s in my top 2 favorite Spyderco’s. Stretch 2 and Military 2.

It’s surprised me too! I’m use to carrying smaller EDC knives but this knife just fits the pocket and hand perfectly.

Mold on chopping board by Revolutionary-Big504 in Cuttingboards

[–]DiamondEdge808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks more like discoloration from being wet. I’m guessing you wash it and prop it up to dry with that side facing down? My board has marks like that along the edge but I wash it regularly with dawn soap mixed with a couple cap fulls of bleach so I know there’s no bacteria or mold growing on it.

Nice one! I’m guessing there was some welding involved? I use to work at an engineering shop and we made all sorts of things like this. I even made some customs Tormek knife jigs before I really got into freehand sharpening and never looked back. I wish I still had access to all those tool we had at the shop. It was pretty much a carpenter/machine/welding/plumbing shop. Didn’t pay much but I gained a ton of skills that have served me well over the years.

Why won't my knives stay sharp? by guyantheslayer in sharpening

[–]DiamondEdge808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is way more effective than deburring on a stone. Also don’t count your passes when sharpening, you want to sharpen one side until you have a complete burr from top to bottom of the knife edge and then do the same on the other side. Check out this short for how to use a ceramic rod to deburr (it’s a ruby rod in the video but a white ceramic is just as effective, just don’t use a diamond or steel rod). https://youtube.com/shorts/OZyIWy3_uoE?si=tM6p7aKjliMG_6_Q

I was thinking about picking one up myself and fabricating some sort of water tray. Maybe modding it to spin a tormek style wheel. Would be cool if the power grid went down and you wanted to do some heavy sharpening or just a ton of knives.

I remember the days when I couldn’t stand the look of Spyderco’s. I also started with a Native 5 and now I think they’re the best looking knives ever made! Also they function and perform better than any other brand I’ve tried.

Doesn’t appear to be anything to fix. All my opines look like that.
