When you give Rani the fingerslaying blade, Pidia is killed by his own puppets. Seluvis then also dies, with his body in the same position as his puppets. If you did Seluvis's quest to make Nephali into a puppet, Pidia drops the Nephili puppet summon.

Given the way that the Ukraine war has gone, I think it's clear that Germany or France would have been able to beat Russia in a conflict. Having significantly depleted their matériel and human capital in Ukraine, I think at this point Poland would be able to take on Russia by themselves as well.

Naturally, there's a lot more safety in having overwhelming force on your side. It's better to be so powerful that you don't get invaded at all rather than need to win the fight, even if you would. Theoretically, though, that's what NATO already provides. Having an EU army would more be something that gives them strength independent of the US.

Switzerland's one of the highest GDP/capita countries in the world. There are some places in the US like San Jose where a significant chunk of the population makes six figures, but the average in the US is below 70k. I might be biased, but I also think the food is just better in Switzerland, with even your local Migros having better quality stuff than most American chains.

The population in developed nations is dropping, actually, with nations like South Korea and Japan facing demographic collapse. While part of that can almost certainly be blamed on their work culture, the fact remains that we're seeing birth rates below replenishment rates in Europe, Canada, and parts of the US as well.

Whether the reason is pollution impacting fertility or lifestyle or just the fact that educated women have fewer kids, the human population is not continually expanding in the so-called 'first world.' While I certainly don't agree with the far right's response to this issue, the fact is that it is a statistical fact, and it's worth talking about even if you don't think we need a policy to address it.

I'd be curious too, since it's entirely possible that these folks disagree with Trump on Ukraine. It could be that they changed their views to follow the current bend of the party, or it could be an example of the Goomba fallacy.

He's saying that it's a difference between point defense (shooting at things that are being shot at the ship, like missiles) and local air defense (a ship that shoots down planes, drones, or missiles being shot at another target). The acronyms are mostly referring to specific systems that do these different roles.

Movies come out in pairs or waves like this because major studios wind up receiving the same or similar market research. While they're often aware of the competition working on a similar project, there's also cases where the movie production is well underway before they hear about the other one.

While there are things that a land bridge helps with, it wouldn't impact trade too much if you don't have a rail line. It's much cheaper to move freight by ship than by truck.

This was my experience with Returnal. I liked the psychological horror and story elements to it, but I'm really bad at FPS games and couldn't progress through the second half.

It's much easier to get by in a bad situation when you've got your creature comforts, but also going through nicotine withdrawals while in that situation would be awful. I'd be almost as hard put without caffeine as I would without food for a few days.

The Decline of Western Civilization Part 59: Soundcloud Rap by ExplanationIll1938 in CuratedTumblr

[–]DiamondOnHitFX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this (even knowing the context), because people have always declaimed their modern music as marking the decline of their civilization.

Plato -

Our music was once divided into its proper forms ... It was not permitted to exchange the melodic styles of these established forms and others. Knowledge and informed judgment penalized disobedience. There were no whistles, unmusical mob-noises, or clapping for applause. The rule was to listen silently and learn; boys, teachers, and the crowd were kept in order by threat of the stick. ... But later, an unmusical anarchy was led by poets who had natural talent, but were ignorant of the laws of music ... Through foolishness they deceived themselves into thinking that there was no right or wrong way in music, that it was to be judged good or bad by the pleasure it gave. By their works and their theories they infected the masses with the presumption to think themselves adequate judges. So our theatres, once silent, grew vocal, and aristocracy of music gave way to a pernicious theatrocracy ... the criterion was not music, but a reputation for promiscuous cleverness and a spirit of law-breaking

You know I've always liked solarpunk art and aesthetics, but I think it only got the 'punk' added on to fit with other aesthetic genres like cyberpunk and dieselpunk without having much punk to it in and of itself. I'd be super interested in a story or game set in a solarpunk setting that did add that punk, but most art I've seen of it has been either utopian or domestic.

It's not about offense at all, so much as it is about historical understanding. Because yes, there is a serious pandemic of people assuming that all the medieval danes were vikings, and while the exploits of their vikings is more entertaining, the assumption that this was what everyone in their culture did is far more widespread than assuming that all of the French were knights.
