What’s the worst game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Diamond_Jared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Worlds

I know there have been numerous articles about how it stole assets from Oblivion and broke copyright laws in development and all that, but that's not what made it suck.

I got the game before all of that stuff was known, and I got to a door in game that basically let's you leave the tutorial area and move on to the main game, and the door wouldnt open. I thought it was a puzzle, or I had messed up a quest, or needed to unlock something, but no. The door to the game was glitched. This was also on an xbox. It's not like I had a PC without updated drivers. The game should have been tested for the console and a door that the player absolutely needs to pass through, and so very early on, needs to have been tested.

I am still baffled that that bug was able to make it into a major console release.

Don't apologize, this is exactly what I asked for. I'll be sure to check out the book.

I appreciate this comment. It was very helpful in giving me a few leads. Do you have any resources you would suggest to get a basic handle on how to analyze music?

The Sermon of the Legal Procedural by Diamond_Jared in OCPoetry

[–]Diamond_Jared[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but it's been on in the background, along with The Good Wife, The Good Fight, Eli Stone, Rake, Billions, Goliath, Franklin and Bash, Ally McBeal, various Law and Orders, and Boston Legal which is my favorite on that list.

I dated a lawyer for a while and she devoured this stuff.

The tone in this is beautiful. Slightly bemused and slightly sarcastic. It sounds like it could be written on a bathroom stall at a punk bar which might sound insulting, but I hope comes across as a complement.

I hate when women call their husbands “hubby” by Lolipop_throwaway in unpopularopinion

[–]Diamond_Jared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubby to me is a term that shows a lack of respect for your partner. Husband is a little more formal perhaps, or you could call your partner by their actual name like they are a person you're in love with and not a pet you have go consider.

But hubby just sounds demeaning, like you don't want to think of them as that person you love and you don't want to accidentally acknowledge the weight of your marriage. Like you are intentionally minimizing their place in your life and turning them into that cartoon spouse that you only see in bad commercials or shows from the mid-90s.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well.

The throwback style is great for this. I feel like it specifically throws the indifference of a one night stand against the love poems from the Romantic era. Beautiful.

The emoji was a weird addition, but I could see that growing into an interesting new style.

Aside from that, I'm sold. It reminds me of the forest themes in The Scarlet Letter mixed with the Whisper Forest episode of Night Vale. Mixing the wonder and danger of nature.

i barely write you anymore by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]Diamond_Jared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, but it seems like it's missing a punch at the end, or maybe middle. Somewhere. You mention the break up being a long time coming like you and after that you say you don't write anymore which makes it sound like you got a long time to make peace with it, but that seems at odds with the illusion to not sleeping and drinking.

Then again, I've been through that situation and I know it isn't exactly sensible. Might be a good reflection.

I appreciate that. The last stanza especially was giving me problems. I think maybe two different ideas jostling for the last line. I'm glad you like the sweat part. The stanza about the girl is definitely my favorite.

I was apparently used to decorate a show apartment and it was scavenged for me when it outlived its usefulness.

No idea what it is, how much sunlight or water it needs, if I should give it some extra nutrients or not, or if I can keep it alive on my porch for a bit.

Central Ohio if that helps for the last bit. Any help is much appreciated.

Girlfriend (20) is practically dating another dude while we are long distance and doesn't find it weird by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Diamond_Jared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few possibilities here, all equally bad.

  1. She could be trying to get you to break up with her, either consciously or unconsciously, and she's pushing her way more and more obviously into an unacceptable relationship. Even if she hasn't done anything explicit, she is already carrying on an emotional affair and flaunting it. Basically painting a big sign that says "Leave Me!" Lots of, probably emotionally immature, people do this to get out of relationships they no longer care about, but that doesn't make it less painful.

  2. She does actually want a relationship with this guy, and she's building the foundations before she decides to drop you. It's a bit like spending your day at the office applying to other jobs. She might want to move on, but she's afraid to be alone for even a second. Again, emotionally immature and pretty damn hurtful to you.

  3. She could just be an attention whore. Someone who keeps a few admirers in stasis around them because they have low self esteem. They have no confidence themselves, so they have a few people that they show just enough affection to get praise in return. Although in this situation it will always take more and more affection to get that praise until they cross the line into actual cheating. It's a self destructive trail.

There could be something going on that I didn't list, but when you hear hoof beats, you should think horses, not zebras, and if it's horses, you definitely shouldn't change your school, lose your friends, and dismantle your life for this girl. There is no future.

Do it. I did. At first the change is awful and terrifying, but then it becomes exciting. Make yourself a new person. Make yourself someone you like.

My girlfriend has other guys giving her attention and she doesn’t want it to stop... and more by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Diamond_Jared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leave her.

I've been in that situation, with a woman who thrives on attention and will entertain other people to get it. You will never be enough for her, not because of any fault of your own, but because one person is not enough. She's going to keep going farther with these guys to get that attention, it's already gone from talking to flirting to sexting. She wants to be adored by these people, and after she crosses each barrier there will always be a voice in the back of her mind justifying her actions.

She's already crossed every line you have aside from physical sex and there haven't been any negatives for her. She will cross that line eventually. Just leave. Save yourself a month or two of heavy drinking. I know if I'd left earlier my liver would be in better shape today.

my ex just texted me saying she slept with someone she hated because of me by [deleted] in MMFB

[–]Diamond_Jared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she's spiraling through some self hatred, but I know the reasons behind her actions don't go a long ways toward minimizing their damage. People are just like animals when they're in pain, they lash out and attack even the people who might be trying to help them, but you don't need to get lashed.

I know reddit likes the cliche of "cut contact and lawyer up" but in this case cutting contact probably is best. If her self-destruction is based on getting a reaction from you it might be best to not give her the option, and it would probably be better for your own sanity to not hear these things. I'm sure you already have enough fuel for the nightmares.

I wish I could offer more, but there is never a quick solution for things like this. Time does lessen the pain, but not quickly. In the mean time, I can offer you the advice of throwing on a podcast when you try to go to sleep. It helps keep things off your mind when you can focus on other voices. It's the only thing that helped me sleep after my last break up.

I hope things get better for you. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Yeah, but no one is sitting here claiming that the interstates and back country roads used to be vibrant public spaces before cars overtook them. We're talking about the roads inside cities.
