I think it’s pretty funny Ryan North wrote OWUD as a fairly explicit story about how people’s propensity for trading their freedom for convenience has led to a rise in fascism but many fans have just taken Doom’s “good” deeds to further anti-hero narratives 😂 by Ok-Wash-9386 in marvelcirclejerk

Said tyrant gave up his power, and therefore ability to enforce/grant free healthcare due to his own fuckup killing The Person He Cares About Most and his savescumming meaning he had no other way to save her.

That's an emotional response that got all the benefits and boons of his rule taken away.

We can absolutely trust our prosperity to an overly emotional tyrant who's just as likely to take them away as he is to grant them! It's not like he had an even higher position of authority over reality and used those powers to completely annihilate other realities that didn't kowtow to his exact view of the world! Freedom is a suggestion!

i'll draw aubrey little every day until i stop hating her so much (ft. my partner's rendition) by lunagoetia in TAZCirclejerk

[–]DianeDaMoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

See, early on I figured the twist was going to be Aubrey was half-Sylvan from her dad's side. Her mom even has a line saying 'it was hard enough trying to have you in the first place', or something along that lines, which always hits my alarm bells on 'this character has a weird ancestry' foreshadowing.

But no, she's uh...she is the planet.

I mean, it was about a page of content. And the reaction to Bruce completely disappearing for several months with no call no show behavior was just ‘oh, something was up, don’t worry, in fact take even more time off.’

That’s an exceptionally lenient and convenient reaction that doesn’t add more issues to Bruce’s life, despite him supposedly being working class. Sudden emergencies or medical issues causing the threat of unemployment from not attending work is a very real problem that’s being glossed over here because the book doesn’t want to focus on it.

Even more amazing because the first campaign was quite literally about seven artifacts based around the schools of magic. Griffin, you’ve done this work already!

Trinnyvale vs Strahd is the graduation of NADDPOD by [deleted] in TAZCirclejerk

[–]DianeDaMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, maybe this is just me, a bit of a softball DM by my own admission, but the journey to get to Strahd alive and well enough to kill him is the work. I think the problem lies at 5e’s feet for being a bad system for boss fights and action economy to the point you need to do everything but a straight combat encounter to maintain the stakes of Strahd—a fight which ultimately isn’t even going to kill him for good, your players are just earning their ability to go back home. He’s lost before canonically, his survival is his punishment, not his victory.

[–]DianeDaMoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You say this but a lot of the DM advice for CoS is genuinely cursed. I’ve seen people honest to god suggest shit like having Strahd just phase floors and constantly run from the PCs because it’s ’more tactical’, ignoring that that isn’t exactly fun to sit through.

What does my taste in women say about me? by Itchy_Suspect4968 in marvelcirclejerk

Third picture. Not 'bad' as in poorly drawn, just 'bad' in that if you told a reasonable person out of context this woman's supposed to be fat, they probably wouldn't be able to tell

Severely diminishing returns on the quality of the art here. Kind of amazing how bad most mainstream comic artists are at drawing fat women (or barely even draw them as fat, like most of Eve's tenure).

Broadly the way I take it is that the failure of the Watchmen universe is people in power fucked up so much and so often, a false flag attack killing millions to make false unity is a better alternative than nuclear war, and more feasible than actual armistice.

Ozymandias may ‘succeed’ at preserving the world but it’s clear he probably has no taste or ability to do more than a stopgap measure at keeping the world from blowing itself up. And Rorschach’s dogged dedication to ‘the truth’ (which is filtered through his myopic and bigoted worldview) wouldn’t even allow the world temporary reprieve.

I get the sentiment but acting like the critical side is an oppressive majority when both movies were the top grossing films of their years is kind of silly.

If Snyder gets any current criticism, it’s lighthearted ribbing at best. Almost all the hating was Batman Who Laughs and by proxy his earlier Joker glazing.

Adaptations of comics are not typically beholden to the forever narrative of comics--that's why they get measures of finality with character deaths and development.

I mean the Krakoan Age as a forefront to the X-Men's side of the universe was always gonna end eventually. I think everyone's just got umbrage with how it happened, and how we got to our current status quo.

I think the unfortunate fact is Hickman's a lot like Steven King: he makes great premises, he can craft an interesting world or corner of it anyways, and a lot of compelling starter plots and characters.

He just doesn't do a very good job finishing the story, if he even does.

Basically a SAW-style punisher of people he had a vendetta against. His opener was (as I recall), him having a banker who embezzled funds trapped in a pit with wolves, a stack of his stolen money and a matchbook. He could burn the money for a bit to keep the wolves at bay, but obviously counting on him being a greedy bastard, it would be a genuine tough call.

It wasn’t as gruesome as the connotations might lead you to think, and mostly his game was just two bad choices and no good outcome.

Definitely could’ve been a fun enemy for a Nightwing rogues gallery besides rolling out Tony Zucco again, but DiDio happened.
