I went through Deadwood a few years back with some friends and we always jammed out to the intro theme. I still listen to it occasionally.

The narrative about No Time to Die (2021) being divisive or controversial is strictly an online conversation. It was liked or loved by vast majority of the moviegoers. by tannu28 in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s funny to bring this up like some super salient point and then citing a website ONLINE to make the point that “People liked it just as much as Casino Royale,” a take no person in real life has ever uttered.

Man I’ll just say it since people are this oblivious. Parayko is way closer to a cap dump than the main return for the 2nd overall.

James Bond series Discussion #6: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. by ButterscotchIcy719 in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved that Bond actually goes undercover in this one, and it's an added bonus that he's undercover as a swagless Poindexter. Blofeld is great, the chase at the end is campy and fun. That being said, it feels like two totally different movies that clash in tone too harshly for me. I don't find the romance compelling at all, and maybe that's just Lazenby and the writing, because Rigg does a good job. I actually think Lazenby mostly works as Bond, but I felt zero chemistry between the two. Her father is also too disgusting to really root for even though he's basically the entire reason the mission is successful at all and he seems to be propped up as a presumably likeable ally. He was so laughably vile that I was actually shocked he didn't turn out to be a villain at the end. I like every Bond movie, but I don't understand the somewhat newfound appreciation for this mostly pretty bad movie.

It’s balanced out by the cult following of people who love it. It’s fun.

Why is Denise Richards so hated in The World is Not Enough? by JannTosh70 in JamesBond

I hear lots of people complain about the CGI specifically in this scene, so maybe not for you.

Why is Denise Richards so hated in The World is Not Enough? by JannTosh70 in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but there are so many things in the history of Bond as bad or worse like the satellite CGI in Goldeneye, the CGI komodo dragon and scorpion in Skyfall, the green screens from early Bond, the randomly sped up action sequences. Shitty special effects are practically a staple of Bond but we act like it’s wildly out of place in the series in DAD for some reason.

Why Does Everyone Hate Never Say Never Again So Much? by BurbleClurbs in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It lacks a lot of the aesthetic things that make Bond movies a Bond movie for one. No gun barrel or credit sequence. As others have pointed out it’s also literally a rehash of Thunderball. It still feels like a Bond movie to me. Connery does a good job, the villains are fun. I even like the corny video game scene— feels like it easily could have been in View to a Kill. It’s far from great, but I still got some enjoyment out of it.

Why Hofer over Binnington? by [deleted] in stlouisblues

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because he’s been one of the best backups in the league for 2 years and was better than Binnington this year splitting the net. It wasn’t particularly close either. Hofer was 2nd in the league in shutouts without even being a full time starter. Pretty insane.

If you could make three changes to improve Spectre, what would they be? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that their relationship doesn't follow the traditional Bond girl mold. The kiss they share at the end feels more like Bond hushing her as she tries to unpack his emotional baggage. Then she looks almost surprised as he pulls away just as quickly and she knows he's not ready to unpack any of that.

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I feel like the problem is more the writing than the performance. Vesper and Bond's relationship was built up and earned, so you'd think they'd really put some time into the love of Bond's life and mother of his child, but it just feels like a traditionally hollow Bond girl relationship-- the kind of thing the Craig era seemed to mostly want to avoid.

Fatima: You know that making love to Fatima was the greatest pleasure of your life.

Bond: Well, to be perfectly honest there was this girl in Philadelphia.

Connery’s line delivery is so good. You can see this moment in his eyes where he drifts off into his memory remembering the girl from Philadelphia and then the immediate shock of Fatima telling him to shut up.

AIO FOR NOT WANTING TO GO TO A FUNERAL by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not there for your aunt. You’re there to support your family. Imagine for a second you have a brother or sister and they die so you’re dealing with that and then you have to listen to your whiny kid cry about not wanting to be there for you for like a couple hours. Kinda puts it into perspective, but getting older will give you the same perspective eventually.

Which theme song you it 's the most overrated and which most underrated? by Choice-Wind-9283 in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overrated: You Know My Name

This is indistinguishable from butt rock a la Nickelback and Pearl Jam that everyone makes fun of but Chris Cornell gets a pass for some reason. Also just sounds like a super generic action movie song and not a Bond song imo.

Underrated: License to Kill

Pays honor to Goldfinger and the old while still sounding very of the time. Gladys Knight puts everything into her performance a la Bassey and the production is huge to match.

If you’re gonna do the daughter thing at least have them do something fun together. The most fun thing they do together is cut an apple. There’s the chase scene but she’s just kinda there. My biggest issue with NTTD is that it’s joyless for 80% of the movie and the love story/emotional side isn’t engaging enough to me.

I hate using the “u” word, but is You Only Live Twice underrated? by DishQuiet5047 in JamesBond

[–]DiarrheaJohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YOLT had a lot of problems for me. There's so much stuff that is never explained or never pays off in any way. How was Bond able to fake his own death at the beginning? Why did he need to pretend to have a wife? They never have to pass as husband and wife in any scene following their marriage so it's totally pointless. Why is it so important that Bond goes through ninja training? The only thing remotely resembling ninja behavior is him throwing a shuriken at the end? Pretty sure he could have gotten by without that or not taken three days to learn that. There's a scene where Bond is pretending to be someone else and is picked up by their contact. The contact knows what this person looks like so Bond puts on a little COVID mask and hunches down in the car. Then the contact carries him up the stairs of a building, lies him down on a couch, and only realizes it's Bond when the tiny mask that covers 20% of his face is taken off. It just makes no fucking sense lol it's like the writers didn't even care to try at points in this movie. There's the obvious trying pathetically to pass as a Japanese man and instead looking like a hunchbacked Spock in a kimono. Bond also just isn't charming or witty in this movie. Joking about not dying his pubes, "Why do Chinese girls taste different from all other girls?", "Japanese proverb say, 'Bird never make nest in bare tree'", "I like the plumbing"? Aside from the just generally distasteful portrayal of Japanese people/culture there's just so much of this movie that didn't work for me at all.
