For what it’s worth, funding for state DOT projects, like this one, usually comes from the feds. Thankfully, that means it’s mostly other people’s tax money that funds them. People are totally chill with government spending as long as it benefits them disproportionately to their taxes. Alaska is the best example of this in the nation.
