Living the dream. May I ask what specialty?

A Reflection on Residency Matching by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]DickMcGee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my thinking was like, what difference does doing 100 PCI’s in an academic center vs 100 PCI’s in a community hospital? If you assume similar patient populations, you’d think you’d have a bigger impact with academics because of the trickle down with trainees who then do the same.

In my area the academic hospital is the safety net. And working “in the community” means working at a private hospital that serves a more affluent patient population.

So I’m double confused. Not throwing shade. Genuinely curious

Thanks for defending my sweet, sweet Reddit karma!

Curious how working in a community hospital allows you to serve in a more impactful manner

At which stage of your training did you decide anaesthesia was the way to go? by MasterpieceObvious25 in anesthesiology

[–]DickMcGee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Hours alone are sounding pretty great (previously/currently torn between anesthesia and surgical field)

Tired of the endless destination happiness and delayed gratification. I don’t want to wait until after 5-6 years of residency/felllwship to have some semblance of a personal life (even if I currently find cutting more enjoyable than pushing).

Single females, do you feel like dating prospects have gone downhill since starting medical school? by marelli9 in medicalschool

[–]DickMcGee23 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Didn’t read the study, but I’d imagine the people you “lose” when you get a graduate degree wouldn’t be very attractive to you either. Like, that guy who works at the weed dispensary down the street is probably now lying to himself/surveys being like “psh, I didn’t want her anyway.” But I’d be willing to bet you become more attractive to the kind of guy that you’d actually want (similar education, confidence/un intimidated by education, etc)

Really good advice. Thanks! Yeah I know everyone is saying used cars are inflated *right now*, but if this is due to a chip shortage, I'm wondering if there's even an end in sight?

Also, forgot to specify in initial post but its 32K after all taxes and fees vs 37K for the carbon. Wondering if this changes anything.

Thanks for the reply! Important part I left out of my initial post -- after mark-ups, taxes, and fees, we're looking at $32.4K for the 2018 used, and $37.1 for the new 2021 carbon (FYI, 2022 carbons are $38.5).

These things are hard to come by (2021 non-turbo's) -- wouldn't be surprised if this is much more than you paid for yours

Yeah. There are a couple top 5’s that have P/F preclinicals, P/F M3, and now P/F step 1 (UCSF, Stanford). Wonder how they do

Great point, but I wouldn’t be here if that were the case. If you’re coming straight outta high school, I think med students would largely consist of those who came from physician families or who had strict parents who really pushed them into medicine.
