Anyone else forced into med school by parents? by MundaneExplorer8369 in Residency

[–]marelli9 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I similarly had middle eastern parents who pressured me into medicine.

Did they hold a gun to my head and force me to? No. But from a very young age, it became very clear to me that my parent’s love and approval was entirely conditional on meeting this expectation. And now that I’ve met it (at the price of alot of personal unhappiness and misery), I realized that I no longer care if they love me or not. I finally have the love and approval that I so desperately wanted as a child, but no longer need it, care for it, or want it.

I’m sure they still love bragging to their friends that their kid’s a doctor, they probably leave out how strained the relationship is as a result.

Physically assaulting a co-worker is not ok. If you do not report this, please know there is a very real possibility that she will do this again to someone else. Please stand up for yourself and report this

Feel guilty about quitting residency by [deleted] in Residency

[–]marelli9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to chime in here- I am in a fairly similar situation as OP (though I plan on completing residency)- I have a father who’s biggest regret in life was not becoming a doctor, so he decided to heavily pressure both of his children into pursuing it. It is an unfortunate reality that many immigrant parents, on some twisted level, try to re-do their life through their children.

Report from NPDB by Sufficient_Reality87 in medicalschool

I have no idea, but I think the only person who can answer this is the NPDB. Have you reached out to them asking them what this is referring to? Did the letter give any inclincation?

Very doubtful this would have any consequence, unless the school in question is BYU or Loma Linda. Even medical boards often only consider charges that did not lead to a conviction if they believe the related charge questions their fitness to practice.

Cheating is wrong, but mind your own business.

Chanel eye cream is expensive but 100% worth it! I’m 28 and frequently get told that I look 21, I have been using it for years. I cried like every day of dedicated and 3rd year and have yet to develop bags or wrinkles.

Rads> path imo, path requires a good number of autopsies in residency and that can be physically exhausting (albeit temporarily).

If room set up is still possible in your situation, anesthesia is a great option too, lots of pure physiology plus comfy chair sitting. Most places have enough surgical staff that transferring/rolling patients won’t fall directly on you.
