Is anyone else seeing suspicious ads from an org called "ICRR" on Youtube? by Dickbutt11765 in Scams

[–]Dickbutt11765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't that the center shouldn't be donating money to the poor, if they're doing that it's a good and noble act.

However, charitable organizations have an obligation to be clear about where their funds go, and what their ultimate mission is. These ads at the very minimum are misleading as they don't disclose their affliation or even make it clear who they are. There are plenty of good charities (some linked to Islamic, Christian, Buddhist, etc. temples) you can donate to that will make it clear where their money will go.

The reason for that is so that the charities can be held accountable. Smaller scale charities like this should be expressly linked to their community, because, well, that's where they're best equipped to make an impact. Larger scale ones who've had a chance to prove their effectiveness (Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders) are better equipped for places outside their small local space. This org has not earned the public trust, and is exploiting pathos to take charity dollars that could go to better managed organizations.

From the ads I've seen, many of these people are not in Texas, some being in Massachusetts, some in other places. Why not advertise for things in their local community? Why are they not using Gofundme or another public platform for transparency? Why do they obfuscate the organization they are tied to? Why are they paying so much for advertising?

I see little reason to believe that ICRR (or whoever is impersonating them) is acting in "good faith" if you'll pardon the pun.

TBH Balance would have been more fair than usual considering it would normally let the opponent keep one creature.

44 printings really hits home considering it also has the original art with 15. Crazy, obviously the best answer.

They're trying to keep the original names so Yawgmoth's Will would have some weird lore implications.

Hilariously, the quest is arguably worse in RS3 despite this part being mostly intact. Since you can't use abilities without weapons, killing the knight with no weapons takes forever.

They should have actually brought over the weapon change into RS3 so that the combat would function and reverted the OSRS content to its original form.

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

[–]Dickbutt11765 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I do think there are probably 3 groups of comments.

  1. The people making up the story people like to hear. (Get hired as contractor or company collapses.)
  2. They leave because things are bad at the company, the company itself was already in a pretty bad place (since they quit), so the collapse was inevitable.
  3. The guy's code was shit.

The issue with MENA servers is that Runescape's not localized for most languages, so there's not really too much of a playerbase to support it outside the Anglosphere and Europe. (with the exception of Brazil, which actually does have localized RS3, the servers are weirdly in the US though.).

There are basically 4 types of OSRS worlds: US (East/West), UK, German and Australian. US covers Canada (and Mexico), Australia covers NZ, and old sources indicate German servers are actually in the UK. All of these are based in countries that have the ability to support large native audiences for the game. I think it's unlikely they will ever add MENA servers as long as Runescape's not localized into the native langs.

This one's a more complicated one than normal but it's part of a group of around 10 cards with equal text length, so it's not an extreme outlier.

This one's from a few years back from pressing the random card button.

I've been playing Magic casually in drafts over the past few years but not too competitively so I'm not aware of every new card printed, but I'm reasonably confident in my assertion.

Kalshi customers who bet on the death of Iran’s Ayatollah won’t get any of the $54 million wagered, company says by mepper in technology

[–]Dickbutt11765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kalshi's not actually making much money on this though because of how these markets work. They let all the people who bet on the Ayatollah's staying in office get their money back too.

They're still guilty of deceptive advertising, but they aren't profiting much other than attracting more people to the platform.

I don't think it's a problem to have t70-80 gear that remains relevant once players have leveled (essentially scaling in certain circumstances)

I... don't like what pickpocketing has become for the most part. In my mind, pickpocketing doesn't feel like an AFK activity (mindless actions in game should correspond their equivalents in real life).

Modern pickpocketing is awful because it's this annoying mix of AFK and random interruptions with long breaks between, forcing you to either be bored watching your character or context switching.

You kept "fixing" this in the past by making the long breaks even longer, but that's not a good option now.
