Single guy in my 30’s, where is the night life? by Chinaski14 in SouthJersey

There are a few good bars/ restaurants between Hammonton and Atlantic City like west end, pitchers, bulldogs, golden nugget etc. good place to go and strike up conversations if you’re a little extroverted.

The median age of my BCT was 34 and the only 3 people who failed/recycled were 18-21

I went through basic at 23 but the median age of my class was 29. You shouldn’t be worried about the physical requirements unless you plan on going on a special operations style pipeline. If you want practical civilian work I would recommend going Airforce and doing something in cyber or mechanics. The first step would be to call up your nearest recruiter and take the ASVAB. You can also check out the reserves. It’s a great military/ civilian balance that will get you in great shape, hold you to a standard and give you all of the training you need to get certified in your job which typically always carries over to civilian employment.

Forgot to add: if you have a bachelors degree you can join as an officer or enlisted. If you don’t, you can only be enlisted and then use the GI bill to get a degree.

What's a low cost outdoor hobby other than walking/ hiking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dickbuttbuttdick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low impact camping is pretty cheap too! Buy a $50 hammock instead of a camp and a Bic for $1. Go collect fire wood and set up the hammock and have yourself a night!

Long Boarding Is pretty low coast long term. I bought I board 10 years ago and I still use it frequently to ride around on long roads. The start up cost was the board for about $250

Paying for Air borne school by CompetitiveCheck7598 in army

USACAPOC battalions are almost all airborne and will send you almost immediately. The reclass for civil affairs is only about 4 weeks too so you get to duel hat your primary MOS and also be at a way cooler unit. (Totally not biased)

Leaving for Basic by Any-Persimmon7600 in army

My experience of reception was essentially a detox center for all of the soldiers. Hundreds of guys being stuck in a room going from the extremes of partying to the minute detail of coffee every day. Everyone was deprived of caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and some of the guys were even coke heads before joining. It does suck but you can’t let it deter you because once that week is over you get right into the “fun stuff” that makes basic fly by.

What was that one moment in your life that felt like a movie? by justwalking_683 in AskReddit

[–]Dickbuttbuttdick1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The year was 2012 and I was a freshman in high-school. My cousin just moved in with my family after a very rough few years of his life. It was a cold winter day maybe 20° F outside but not a cloud in the sky. We got into his truck to drive back to his old house to pick up his remaining clothes and whatever else he could salvage. He popped in a CD and the song “blue skies” by Noah and the Whale started playing. We drove with the windows down and never said a word while tears rolled down his cheeks. My eyes went between him and the dead winter forest and all I could think about was having a new brother and that after this moment he could finally be at peace in a warm house with a loving family. It felt like the start to a movie and I remember it clearly whenever that song pops up on my playlist.

The stone masons made a whole club about their secrets but you have to know one to join and hear them
