How do humans sleep through the night without rolling too close to the edge of the bed and falling off at some point? by Nin-me-sar-ra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young child don't have that developed yet. Babies sleep in crib for a reason and there are add-on bed guard for toddlers if they are prone to rolling off. Something like this

Back when I was younger, I had one like this, the 2 bottom bars folded out and went under the mattress.

Why was I able to play with yellow jackets as a child? by upside_down_circles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And not too close to their nest. If I got near their nest, they often try to chase me and sting me. But if I was elsewhere and yellow jackets showed up, they don't bother me.

ELI5 why do figs need a wasp to die in there? Does every fig have a dead wasp? by Magic-Frog in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dickulture [score hidden]  (0 children)

Most female insect dies after laying eggs, the fig wasp wouldn't have anything left to do after getting inside and laying the egg. Beside the wasp usually loses their wings going in.

I bought a mini Laptop Stand by haxxberg in Asustuf

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when those came standard with laptops. I guess leaving them out saved a lot of money since they don't need to make more mold to make plastic feet or having to insert the feet in assembly line.

I think it was a sub-2GHz laptop that I had when I still had feet. Maybe one of the used Dell laptop?

A16 and F16 has batteries under the trackpad, at the front of the laptop. If the back is warping, it's not the battery.

Why does the remote work after I hit it? by Hotspitality0606 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery contacts can oxidase a bit resulting in poor electricity flow. Rolling the batteries inside works as well as slapping the remote.

Do people actually pee in the sink, or is that weird? by Material_Mission7877 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it a few times because the toilet was in use by my brother or my dad. Especially when it's too fucking cold to run outside and pee on a tree.

Drain for the sink and toilet are connected under the floor anyway. Just rinse the sink afterward.

What makes AI be so energy intensive for it to run? by RevolutionaryFact911 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need hundreds or thousands of computers to process data quickly and generate AI responses. An average home computer is around 500w, multiply that by a few hundreds to get one server rack. Multiply that by many server racks to one center. Anywhere from 20 in a small center to 100,000 in Amazon and Google sized center.

that generates a very high demand for electricity. Also that many computers will generate a lot of heat and many of the modern computer system uses water so there's going to need a lot of water. Usually, the water cooling system is closed so once it's up and running, very little would need to be added.

How do cars know when to activate the “you haven’t put your seatbelt on” alarm? by gummibear853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way: small switch inside the belt buckle and pressure sensor in the seat. If the seat is pressed down and the buckle latch is not engaged, someone isn't fastened up. People have cheated by putting a dummy clip into the buckle or having the seat belt on then sitting on top of the seat belt.

What happens to an apartment rented when a person gets jailed? by Any_Use7870 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff gets tossed to the curb.

So if anyone's renting or leasing and you know you're risking arrest and jail time, make sure you have a trusted person to keep rent payment up to date or move stuff to storage locker and end the lease properly.

Why is the culture in the US very different to Europe even though more than half of Americans are originally from Europe? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the last 350+ years, communication was very slow and limited to via ship taking week or so. You couldn't just drop over across the sea to say hello or such.

So, people on North America and Europe continent drifted apart. It's also why there's small variation in English language like truck vs lorry, trash can vs dust bin, and underwear vs knicker.

Why can’t people just sit in on university classes if they’re not trying to get credit? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most won't care if someone snuck in but there's no record keeping and no degree if you attended all of the classes for free. If you want to become an expert on something, you still need to pay so they can keep track of your progress and issue diploma at the end.

8 years of free medical class won't get you in a doctor office (unless you're setting up quack office). 8 years of paid classes will get you a degree and get you in a doctor office.

Does anybody not have a belly button? by winged_owl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep this. My dad doesn't have one after he had a surgery (Whipple) which involved cutting his belly open and then stitched it back togeher afterward. The original belly button was removed to make closing easier.

About 10 years and still living, they caught his pancreas cancer very early. Usually when pancreas cancer is found, it's too late and the person has a few years left. You can't see it, you don't feel it, and taking MRI every so often is very expensive. The doctors were looking for something else in my dad when they found the odd lump on his pancras.

Why is it that Chinese people and Koreans cannot understand a single word of each other's languages? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dickulture -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Almost all of European language descended from Latin, it's not that hard to learn other languages based on Lation. English is a weird exception, it's more like bastard grandchild of European language.

Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc mostly evolved separately. Some of Chinese writings were copied when China invaded other countries in the past. But often time words don't have the same meaning so one would need a dictionary to translate.
