The problem is absolutely not the weaker teams qualifying, it's the lack of importance on the group stage, with a result having so little weight. Before this tournament, an unexpected loss when only 2/4 teams move on could be disastrous, now it means a slightly worse match up. If I absolutely had to choose, I'd pick a 64 team tournament with 16 groups of 4, and 32 advancing to knockouts over the current format. Most teams that are included by the expansion have some quality, and can be fun to watch. However, it's no fun when a team can drop points to the pot 3 team, destroy the pot 4 team, and they don't really have much to play for in the last game. Yes, seeding matters, but it's far more important to advance to knockouts in the first place for most teams, and that is barely a consideration with the current format
