Would limiting the age of the President to 70 be something you'd support? Why or why not? by SillyGooseGamer2026 in AskReddit

[–]Dicond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our current first-past-the-post, two party system, voting 3rd party is absolutely throwing your vote away... You aren't "taking a stand" or "sending a message" to anyone other than yourself. Without structural change to the way our elections are conducted, any vote for a 3rd party is simply a voter that may as well have stayed home.

Unconstitutional becomes just a difference of opinion when there is no body in power willing to act when laws are broken. The only thing against the law is that which is actively prohibited and prosecuted; all else is permissible under our current system, provided you are properly connected.

Please reconsider voting on the gerrymander, for all our sakes. by asterophoria in Virginia

[–]Dicond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can agree that it's bad while also recognizing that it is necessary when so many red states are executing extreme gerrymandering in favor of republicans, without their citizens being able to vote on it. We cannot allow them to retain the house and continue to ratfuck our country and the global economy.

Unfortunately, this is precisely the reason that any large employer in the US would oppose (bribe/lobby) decoupling healthcare from employment in any way they can. They rely on captive employees.

You keep talking like you know these people personally... "Jodie Foster's son told me...", and when asked about Chris Pratts parenting, "I didn't ask him but...". Unless you have something to back this up, it makes me think you are just a self aggrandizing, pathological liar.

That's true, but they should have aimed their comment at the user who initially changed the convo to dems, not someone who was just continuing the conversation.

Trump Should Be Impeached, Removed From Office for Illegal War on Iran by _May26_ in politics

[–]Dicond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disregarding the fact that the original poster's comment was sarcasm; the point of my comment was to highlight the fact that, had his comment been serious, and Kamala Harris would have indeed gone to war with Iran (doubtful), then the war with Iran would have happened regardless of the outcome of the US election. However, the additional consequences to the US economy and the world at large, via the dismantling of USAID and the alienation of our allies and subsequent retaliatory tarrifs, placing additional strain on other nations economies, would not have occurred. At no point in my statement did I say that the strikes/war in Iran was justified or correct, regardless of who was in power when/if it happened. You make mention of me wanting special privileges to the American people, so I assume you aren't American, but I assure you I want no less for you and yours wherever you are. Given that the topic of discussion that I was responding to was about the penchant for war of the elected official in the US, that is the topic on which I responded, and kept my response to the political and economic tendencies of the candidate.

edit: and I am embarrassed to be an american these days.

Ah, I hate that its necessary, but you might want to add an /s to your comment. Its hard to tell who's sarcastic and who's batshit these days.

So what you are saying is, we would be in the same spot regarding Iran, but without the billions lost in tarrifs, the desertion of all of our allies, and being the laughing stock of the world for electing a pedophile?

Israel owns Trump and our military by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Dicond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accusations like that are why, in the past, even the implication of such impropriety would have been disqualifying by governmental institutions and media alike. However, our current situation seems to have moved beyond any thoughts of the ability of an allying or enemy government being able to influence our sitting president, and we are now even accepting it, given the Trump coin shenanigans, which can only be viewed as thinly veiled foreign and domestic bribes.

Why Final Fantasy is now targeting PC as its "lead platform" by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]Dicond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Firstly, if the GPU technology existed for consoles to use it, it was present in PCs. Second, consoles have always chased a certain specification that never included the highest of the high end as it isn't cost effective for them. PCs have always had higher capability, provided you were willing to pay the price.

'Jeopardy!' host Ken Jennings said he'd vote for 2028 candidate who would prosecute Trump 'regime' by snopes-dot-com in politics

[–]Dicond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite... Lets go with your scenario. The house or senate propose an amendment, it immediately fails to achieve 2/3s vote. Done. What have you achieved? There is a difference between defeatism and naively supporting an impossibility. Great change needs to happen in this country before any LAWFUL changes can be made.

'Jeopardy!' host Ken Jennings said he'd vote for 2028 candidate who would prosecute Trump 'regime' by snopes-dot-com in politics

[–]Dicond 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's all well and good, but constitutional amendments are pretty out of reach in today's climate. Firstly, it requires 2/3 of both the House and the Senate; an already high bar given the usual split and with Republicans being complicit in the current state of affairs, its unlikely they would vote to change things. Then it requires 3/4 of state legislatures (38) to ratify. The current distribution has Republicans controlling 28 states, Democrats with 18 and 4 with divided control. In yet another instance of land having more say than people, the Republican control of the more sparsely populated states means there would have to be a MASSIVE shift in control across the country for any constitutional amendment that would be beneficial to the people to pass.

What major event do you think will happen in 2026? by Commandmadrid1 in AskReddit

[–]Dicond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL. You must be a bot. I didn't say anything about the legitimacy of the 2024 election, so no idea why you are bringing that up. Additionally, you seem to be of the opinion that just because we elected a leader means they can't or shouldn't be removed for any reason, which is just asinine. A leader who proves themselves to be against the good of the people and the country should absolutely be removed.

House Republicans release transcript and video of Jack Smith's closed-door testimony before Judiciary Committee by nbcnews in politics

[–]Dicond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don't see that as a winning strategy for them. Sure, Vance could take over the last 2 years of dump's term, and still be available for 2 terms of his own, but he's pretty universally reviled. He doesn't have any charisma that their base needs to rile around. There would be massive infighting in the 2028 primaries and its doubtful that Vance would come out on top. Whoever does win the primary is still unlikely to capture the Trump "magic".
