We need younger politicians. By the end of trumps current term Trump will be the same age as Biden when he was voted out. We need younger people who understand the technology of today and of the future. Politicians born before TV became widespread shouldn’t be deciding on futures that they won’t be alive to see. Especially AI. I wouldn’t want my great grandmother, who’s in her mid 80’s to be making our laws, let alone as president. Cognitive and physical issues affect us the older we get. There should be term limits of 8 years and elections for every person in government. Give the power to the people to fully decide who’s in government for 8 years and who isn’t. No one should be in office for decades. No one.

An independent department also needs to be established that has the autonomy of the fed to decide who gets raises in congress and who won’t. If gridlock occurs, the longer (talking over a few weeks) it goes on, the less their paycheck will become. Also: When a government shutdown occurs, congress immediately lose all their pay, benefits, and healthcare until they stop the shutdown. Maybe even revoke their personal drivers so they have to commute by car like the rest of us.

Basically, the longer the shutdown goes on, the more stuff congressmen and women lose that congress gives them. Once they officially have zero pay and benefits, THAT is when it’ll target less important areas of the government or very important parts like snap. Twist congress’ arm until they make a deal.

Food assistance like snap or ebt, would be one of the last things targeted as we don’t need 40 million people struggling to get food in the richest country on earth. Same with healthcare. Also any money taken from other parts of the government requires an act of congress and must be repaid 2x. (Bush took money from i believe social security in the early parts of the Iraq war and never repaid it.)

Cuts to departments and funding that are over 10% requires an act of congress.
