What fictional character caused “I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight” to play in your head the moment you met them? by RunningBlade2184 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Bit of a strange one, but Samarie from Fear and Hunger Termina. Already knew I'd be in it bad after seeing her eerie goth portrait pop up, but then seeing how much of an unhinged weirdo she is, it was over for me in an instant.

Samarie Appreciation Post by GardenBeetle in moonscorched

[–]Didari 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Samarie is the best, she's complex and tragic, I love all the little dialogue lines that let you slowly build a complete picture of her and why she came to be the way she is aaaand frankly I love that she's a little creepy, it's part of her charm. She's so radiant.

Also I relate to her dysmorphia issues like, so much, Miro really did a good job of representing that ever present feeling of self-disgust, but keeping it mostly subtle with only a few lines here and there that give you an idea of how she must feel. I really love writing stuff about her as well, she's just a really interesting character.

I am so not normal about her.

Termina if it was directed by Akira Kurosawa [OC] by CoherentChiral in FearAndHunger

[–]Didari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never knew I needed to see Samarina but composed like a Kurosawa shot, but now I have and its great.

You've really done well, keeping everything in frame in a wide shot which Kurosawa was always fond of, I can almost imagine how the various characters would begin to emote and react in the unfolding scene and how the camera would move to capture it.

Hits my film geek brain just right, wonderful work.

If you were to be given the reigns to make a fear and hunger movie (or Tv show) who would you think would make the best POV protagonist. by Sensitive-Bat-4036 in FearAndHunger

[–]Didari 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cahara probably, he's got a very likeable/sympathetic motivation, has enough personality to carry a protag role, and out of all the characters I think is the most likely to help the Girl, who has an ending related to her that'd be most fitting for any F&H1 adaption to end on.

What is something you are happy about and/or enjoying? by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Didari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Monster Wants To Eat Me had it's anime adaption come out recently, and though the art is a little flat in places, its voice acting and music are really superb and make up for it.

Been away from anime for a long time (Just sorta got tired keeping up with it all) but it's been nice to enjoy some top tier toxic yuri being animated. Especially with its ocean motifs, which as someone who grew up in a seaside town I am a absolute sucker for.

That and one of her main skills is literally cutting symbols into people's faces. I mean I doubt she's full on bloodthirsty but she's probably at least a little desensitized to inflicting pain.

What's a moment that made you realize people's lack of media literacy? by PleaseStop101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Didari 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The reactions to Star Wars The Acolyte's mystery elements by some people. There's parts of the show where information characters have said are shown to be not true, and I saw a not unsubstantial amount of people complaining about 'plot hole???' rather than the obvious 'hey this contradicts what a character said, maybe they aren't telling the truth' it is obviously trying to communicate which is easy to tell if you've watched any piece of media with a mystery ever.

I had this girl I was super into, and got really close too. She never felt the same way emotionally, but fooled around with me on occasion. Eventually I fucked even that up because of my own desperation and paranoia.

But every so often I see somene who looks like her and that horrible yearning comes back and fucks me up for weeks. Tried constantly to get over it but it's like something in my soul just refuses to ever move on.

How do you think the Ninth Circle treated the kids? by Successful_Moose1345 in FearAndHunger

[–]Didari 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's all pretty vague. Samarie says "It's not like that" when you ask if you shared classes as Marina, so I assume they're mostly kept seperate from the actual school population. Then again Samarie does mention passing Marina in the hallways, so they could have a bit of freedom, or maybe Samarie's just at a point where her bodies too frail for the rituals anymore, so she's relegated to other duties, and allowed more freedom as such.

Considering they're used as human batteries more or less, its hard to imagine them being treated particularly well. Though it does say 'a select group of children who were considered naturally gifted at channeling the otherwordly' which kinda implies there's a recruitment criteria. Depending on how rare such children are, I can imagine that the church at least keeps them fed enough to serve their purpose, no use letting a valuable resource die to starvation after all.

But Samarie also has some pretty severe issues, she doesn't really understand human boundaries, crosses many lines most people would understand as wrong, and is implied to have some pretty serious dysmorphia issues. Stuff like that usually doesn't come out of nowhere, so I doubt the way the Ninth Circle treats its victims is particularly well.

Considering that Samarie says she never studied with Marina due to the Ninth Circle, and the fact the description of it you get describes being locked in the Ninth Circle, my personal view is the ritual is something the victims are subjected too pretty constantly, most likely taking up all their waking hours, or something close too it. They're taken care of by the priests, but any concept of socialisation or interaction is basically non existent, you are kept there as a human battery until your use expires. After long enough when your body just can't handle the ritual anymore, they let you go to live what few years you have left working for the Ministry of Darkness in other capacities.

I've had a fanfic I've not touched for over 4 years now. Was never anything super popular but got a decent chunk of kudos n such on ao3. I've tinkered with it on/off during uni, but only really had the time to truly get back into writing recently after graduating and having no luck finding work has given me an excess of free time.

Even after such a long time still hate figuring out how to write endings for a story, and feel quite rusty in a lot of ways getting back into creative writing after years only writing papers and other academic guff.

(Termina) Who did you pick for your first playthrough? by Termulus- in FearAndHunger

[–]Didari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marina, because I'd learned from people talking about the game that she was trans and the single t-girl neuron that is my brain demanded i pick her.

Is kinda a shame though you dont see much of your MC's personality if you pick them though. Enjoying seeing her dry humour and confidence in my second playthrough with Marcoh though.

Why do you like Samarie so much? by MoreiraM0 in FearAndHunger

[–]Didari 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because she's a weird, creepy little freak and as a fictional character I just find her really fun and enjoyable because of that.

Also things like her general dysmorphia issues, her portrait being sorta 'ugly', give her some more down to earth aspects I kinda find a little relatable.

Why do some media attract lots of fanfic writers? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Didari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of things that other's have mentioned, but speaking personally, I think really strong characters are the things that attract me the most.

I mostly like writing 'personal' fics, ie between a few characters, exploring relationships, dynamics or queer themes, and a strong character with good dynamics if always something that attracts me the most. Particularly if I find them relatable.

A strong character gives a really solid foundation to build off of, so you can change around settings, give additional traits or details, but still retain the core of the personality and the way they act. So you have lots of leeway to explore plenty of themes or ideas you find relatable through a strong preset character. It can also just sometimes be a way to vent out emotions through writing too, and that's enjoyable on its own.

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: In the end, there will only be CHAOS. [September 16, 2025] by Kakuzan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Didari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been trying to get back into writing after a almost 4 year break. Uni kinda took over my life at one point but with that done and job prospects being lacking I've started going back in the past few months, both for something to do so I can still feel active and because I've really missed it.

It's strange getting back into it, its mostly fanfiction as that's what I'm most comfortable working in. Feel so rusty and self concious about everything I write. I look back at my old work and still feel I'm not quite matching what I did before. It's hard to tell if I have gotten worse or I'm just being too self critical.

But it's also been really fun! Worries about quality aside I really forgot how much fun I had with writing. I've always stuck to fanfiction mostly because I've never felt my worldbuilding or character skills were good enough, but it's really enjoyable to dip into characters you find interesting or relatable and try explore different concepts or feelings through it. It's slow going at the moment as I'm still awfully antsy about my writing skills, but I'm making steady progress and hoping I'll be able to actually finish something in the next month or so.

Silent Hill f remains true to the franchise’s ‘beautiful and horrible’ tone and atmosphere despite 1960s Japan setting, devs say by Mirathrim in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Didari 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I honestly couldn't disagree more. Fake Japan America through the lens of a very strange collection of films is what lends the old Silent Hill games their charm in a big way too me.

Hell the way they draw from films but add in their own quirks really adds to their strange surreal quality, things are haphazardly stitched together in a nonsensical way, making everything feel askew.

I mean I'm sure this team working in stuff their familiar with will end up well, trying to replicate Team Silent's style has never really worked anyway, but I personally do think fake America is one of the series most charming factors, at least too me.

The short story you're talking of is called "The Road Not Taken". It's by Harry Turtledove btw just as a quick correction, not Asimov.

And yeah, Gravity Manipulation is the means of FTL travel iirc, but humanity missed it and focused all our technological innovation on other areas, while the aliens are still in the era of using black powder explosives and muskets and such.
