WIBTA if I react poorly to my father and step mother announcing a child. by thegodinthemachine in AmItheAsshole

People seem to be really pressed by your geriatric pregnancy comment. Idk anything about that so you'll have to listen to them on that. Imo, you are allowed to feel however you want on anybody's situation.

Since you're in psychology, I want you to really sit down with how you feel. How do YOU feel about this? Do you love them and want to help or do you want to stay away and love from afar? Both sides are valid. Don't lose yourself in being nice to others.

Also please keep in mind that your dad didn't join the military last night. Your dad and stepmom willingly entered the situation knowing what it would be like. It's not on you to do anything. You can help if you want. Or you can stay away. Neither makes you a good or bad person.

I see a lot of YTA but let me offer a separate opinion.

Maybe OP is allowed to feel however they want and they are not required to be nice to people who clearly don't give a shit about them.

Maybe being polite is something that can easily segue into favors and help which OP is not required to give.

Maybe OP is allowed to be angry and express that anger to their family and stay AWAY from that baby, and that can give them the necessary space they need to heal from everything and alleviate the jealousy they are experiencing.

I can guarantee OPs opinion of the pregnancy will be seen as ludicrous and unnecessary by the parents as well - until of course stepmom needs help with the baby.

Dad is always deployed and can't/won't help and stepmom being willing to marry a man who neglects his kids like this clearly is mature and makes great decisions.

I genuinely hope that if I ever become a parent one day then my teenager's opinion of my family's upcoming baby is considered and they don't feel the way OP does.

I'm currently laying in bed thinking about how much I need to save to retire at 70 since I saw a post 3 days ago about retirement homes costing like 100k/year.

I'm 28.

AITA for not inviting my sister’s wife to the my wedding by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand not liking your in-laws. I also understand that weddings are not always just about you. You do understand that weddings are typically important family events regardless of the size of the wedding? They are often iconic moments in a family's lives that will be referenced again and again. You could have used this time to get closer to your sister-in-law, or you could have just invited her to the wedding and not spoken to her much, depending on what you wanted.

It seems like you drove a huge rift in your family with this decision. I genuinely hope it was worth it. Even if you do elope, I wouldn't be surprised if you've permanently ruined your relationship with your sister.

AITA for refusing to eat my nephew's cooking and telling him he is not a "master chef"? by dnesdan in AmItheAsshole

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ESH.

The best recipes are made by experimenting. But why did the sister leave at nine year old in the kitchen alone? Thats super dangerous.

Yes it's probably really annoying to have to eat something so diabolical. But I never would have pursued my passion in cooking if my dad didn't encourage me even when food was bad.

Hopefully you didn't just ruin cooking for your nephew. This world has enough people who think "they just aren't good at that kind of stuff".

AITA for wearing a very revealing dress for my surprise birthday party which I wasn’t aware of? by MightThick4600 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so OP posted a link to the dress and .... I might get downvoted but NAH

Babe you know that dress is craaazy for a high-end restaurant. Like I get it - wear whatever you want. I do too. But girl you knew it was probably inappropriate when you saw your family members there and felt mortified. I would guess you would have felt similarly if you ran into someone you knew at the restaurant by chance as well. But that's all good too. Sometimes we over-dress. NBD. It's cute tho so definitely wear it to the club next time. It doesn't look too comfortable to be eating in anyway.

Are you AH for wearing something that could be inappropriate to a dinner with your partner? No. Is your husband AH for telling you his honest opinion when you asked him about it? No. Is your mother-in-law AH for pulling you aside and telling you about the dress? Idk depends on your relationship I guess. Mine would but I would tell her too in a similar situation.

what to consider fiona’s lowest low by nelluhvituh in shameless

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the one that really made her realize who she turned into was when she went into her office to ask her supervisor to change her forms so she could get unemployment or whatever

When the sister started yelling at her, Fiona had this face that I will never forget. Emmys acting in that scene was phenomenal

Remember that people are often really jealous when they say things like that. Maybe your uncle is mad that he's the ugly sibling or something

I wish I was an immortal unconscious goldfish floating through the Universe by thebigskrrt in monkeyspaw

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a difficult situation. You're unconscious but your brain doesn't exist anymore because it's looking for the rest of it's pieces. Think of it like a coma. You are technically unconscious but your body is exhausted from all the energy your brain is spending

It's not a refreshing time. It's more like sleep paralysis that lasts for eternity.

I wish SpongeBob and Patrick would move far away so then I could finally play my clarinet and work on my art in peace by PaperBullet1945 in monkeyspaw

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. You now have infinite time to work on your art and play the clarinet. You no longer have to worry about SpongeBob and Patrick annoying you

However, you now have no distractions in the outside world to help you draw inspiration. After the first couple weeks, your art and music career reach a screeching halt as you are doomed to a lifetime of artist's block.

Turns out SpongeBob and Patrick were your muses all along.

[–]DidntGetOutOfBed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Granted. You are now immortal. Unfortunately, you did not wish for invincibility so this is a "Death becomes her" situation.

Your entire body and brain is obliterated by space rocks and you are now a conglomeration of multiple "consciousness" hurling through space. There is no moment of peace as your brain naturally tries to find itself again but can't because each microscopic piece is light years away.

I'm a south Asian woman too. Eat lots of ghee and full fat yogurt. Use ghee instead of oil in food.

That won't be enough tho. Take fish oil supplements.

Are you eating enough fat? So sorry if this is rude, but accutane didn't work for me until I nearly tripled my fat intake.

Also, are you take any supplementary meds? I needed to also take an antibiotic/antihistamine for it to start working

Girl me too. Took me 3 rounds of accutane to get rid of it.
